An employee's Ordinary Time Earnings (OTE) based should be used for superannuation calculations
20.01.2022 Most awards now have a casual conversion clause, so casuals can request to be moved to part or full time. Businesses can only decline on specific business reasons, and there are strict time frames on reviewing an application. Our qualified consultants can help guide you through this process.

18.01.2022 If you are an employer or employee who has been affected by the bushfires, there are different types of leave you and your staff may be be entitled to, including: - Annual leave - Sick and carer's leave - Community services leave The National Employment Standards provide the minimum entitlement for each leave type, but your award or agreement may provide for more.
17.01.2022 Hello Darwin! A fleeting 24 hours here, but we have met some wonderful people and we're very excited to be starting a new nationwide project
15.01.2022 Policies and procedures - why do you need them? P&P's help set rules for your staff about how things run at your business, and they sit alongside legislative requirements. For example, 4 weeks annual leave and 10 days sick leave per annum are guaranteed for full and part time staff (pro-rata). But, P&P allow you to set internal rules around these leave types, such as how many weeks in advance should annual leave requests be submitted or when a medical certificate is required.... P&P's also allow your business to communicate how they will manage - Employment conditions such as leave, notice, flexibility, rosters, and uniforms - Performance, learning and development - Recruitment and selection - Behaviour and Code of Conduct - Health and safety Applying rules consistently across your business is important to protect both the employer and the employee. We can assist you in setting up polices and procedures for your business.
15.01.2022 Understanding the National Employment Standards (NES) The NES provides minimum entitlements for all employees in the national workplace relations system (regardless of the award, registered agreement or employment contract that applies). An employer can provide more generous entitlements, but they can't be less than the NES. Casual staff only have entitlements under some of the NES, and this can depend on length of service and regularity of work.... The NES covers: - Maximum weekly hours - Requests for flexible working arrangements - Parental leave and related entitlements - Annual leave - Personal/carer's leave, compassionate leave and unpaid family and domestic violence leave - Community service leave - Long service leave - Public holidays - Notice of termination and redundancy pay - Fair Work Information Statement Follow us as we look at each entitlement and what it means for employers and employees.
13.01.2022 Jobkeeper - what does it mean? The payment is $1500 per fortnight for eligible employees. How this gets passed on to employees depends on their income and whether or not they are still working. Super is payable in some circumstances. In addition to approving the Jobkeeper payment, changes have been made to the Fair Work Act giving employers greater power to temporarily vary employment terms.... These are unprecedented measures, and it is important your business understands them before implementing. If you would like assistance in managing your workforce during this period please get in touch with one of our consultants today.

10.01.2022 Some employees ask for their annual leave to be paid to them in a lump sum before they commence their period of leave - but do you have to do this? Some awards do have a provision for payment at the start of the leave, but this is designed for employees paid by cash or cheque, not EFT. For majority of employers that pay by EFT, there is no obligation to do this. Not sure what your award states? Chat to us today.
09.01.2022 The Australia Day public holiday is recognised as Monday 27th January this year. Only South Australia recognises both Sunday 26th and Monday 27th as public holidays. Unless your award or agreement states otherwise, working on Sunday 26th January will only attract regular Sunday rates, not public holiday rates (SA excluded). Not sure what this means for your business? Get in touch with our consultants today
09.01.2022 A Perth cafe has been taken to Federal Court by Fair Work for discriminating against a pregnant worker, by cancelling and reducing her shifts.
