15.01.2022 Heres my written report from the Hobie Series 11 AC held at St Georges Basin the other weekend. Pre-fish was average but I found some fish over the weed beds... so that was my plan for day 1. The wind was NNE though and I umed and ahed about heading to the south to fish the wind blown banks but I decided to stick with my original plan. Day 1 - saw a couple of good looking gingers before we launched and I headed to my spot. 1st fish within 15 minutes but then nothing for about 2 hours when I got one blading in the deep. That was it. 1.09kg and in 32nd spot. Day 2 - I went with my gut and headed south and had one of the best Basin sessions Ive ever had. Rolling HBs (IMA Tetra Mono and a Glenn Allen special) accounted for about 9 legals and 4 just undersize. I wanted to make sure I was back with plenty of time so headed back to my deep water spot closer to the launch and snared a kegger on an Evergreen Little Max blade. This gave me a 2.95kg bag that saw me jump 29 spots up into 3rd, 110g behind Kane Terry and 400g behind Kris Hickson. Day 3 - back to the same spot and a 27cm fish in the well on the 2nd cast. Yes, thats a good start, I thought. But then it was a couple of hours of bumps and dropped fish before I snared a 780g fish on an SP. But it had swallowed the lure and unfortunately went belly-up after 20 minutes of me trying to save it. Bugger it, back to the deep spot, I thought and I made my way back. As I got closer, I could see that the weed beds in Erowal Bay had hardly anyone on them so with this southerly blowing I decided to give them a crack. And thats when I hooked a good un! She raced sideways and behind me and buried herself in the weed. The wind was playing havoc with my direction and just as I turned and faced her she shot off the other way and went behind me again. Aaaargh! A few choice words and gentle persuasion from me and she finally slid into the net. What a relief! I had 15 minutes to go so kept casting and snared number 3 for my full bag. I ended up with a 1.96kg bag that saw me hang onto 3rd. Glenn Allen smashed it and jumped into 2nd while Kris Hickson brought in another quality bag and held onto 1st. Congrats guys, always good competing against you two. That big fish of 1.3kgs did see me get Big Bream though. Thanks to Hobie for running a fantastic (as always) competition. Chris, Jim, Steve and the rest of the Hobie Team, you pull out all the stops for us anglers and we really appreciate the hard work you put into it. And a huge thanks to the tireless volunteers (and my roomies) Matt Petrie and Bill Woods Also thanks to Stephen P Blackmore from Gladiator Tackle who provides such brilliant tackle that keeps me competitive and also to The Life Aquatic (especially Josh Courts) for helping me stay on the water. Biggest thanks of course goes to my family, Natalie, Danielle and Lachlan who have to put up with me all the time and let me escape to fish these awesome events. See you all at Series 12, 2020.
15.01.2022 The Ever Green International Little Max blades are consistent proof that you cant go past quality if you want to consistently catch quality fish. Here @brizl...ordddd nails a nice Mulloway from his Kayak using the 1/4oz blade in colour #27 Ayu. The full colour range can be viewed on our website. 08.01.2022 VISIT INDEPENDENT TACKLE STORES!!!! At the best of times all anglers should visit independent tackle stores, but now with everything going on you should definit...ely be visiting an indie store. Most will price match but even if you have to pay one or two dollars extra it's not a big deal. I guarantee that you'll get better service and you'll actually learn something if you ask questions and it will make you a better angler. Visiting a proper tackle store is an experience, a place to make friends, meet people, talk fishing and be part of the fishing community. Big box stores offer a stale experience, they will get through this, independents will struggle, help them out and help yourself out- be cool, go indie. See more
