17.01.2022 COUPLE SAVES MAN’S LIFE IN ESPERANCE A quick-thinking couple holidaying in Esperance has saved a man’s life after he slipped into waters from the rocks at Twil...ight Beach. Esperance Goldfields Life Saving Club president Kelly Buttle said the couple wisely ran to the clubhouse to get rescue boards before paddling into the water to drag the struggling man back to safety. It could have been such a disastrous result, she said. How lucky he was that they were there. Ms Buttle said it was crucial to be a confident swimmer and use a flotation device when helping someone in the water. She said orange buoys could be found by the water across Esperance including at the lifesaving clubhouse at Twilight Beach which also had rescue boards for the public to use when volunteer lifeguards were not on watch. 02.01.2022 KNOW THE LOCAL HAZARDS Black Rocks - DO NOT WALK ON BLACK ROCKS Did you know? A black algae grows on the rocks along the south east coast. It establishes... itself on rocks up to the high tide mark and is very slippery when wet. We urge everybody to avoid walking on black rocks at all times. A majority of sea search and rescues are from people slipping on the black rocks. If you slip into the water, stay calm, swim away from the rocks (don't try to get out how you fell in) and swim back into shore. And if you See someone heading toward danger, Say something, it just might Save their lives. Southern Ports Shire of Esperance IGO Ltd Recfishwest 103.9 Hope FM Esperance Triple M Esperance
