23.01.2022 After a busy 2014, and a well deserved break, Elcho Island Arts is in full artistic swing for 2015. As the rains continue in the Top End, the artwork still gets made. This is the perfect time to collect bark and wood for carving and larrakitj, and when it is raining to stay indoors and paint.

22.01.2022 Our weavers are all home on Elcho Island after a successful Pandanas harvest trip but still had some dying to do when they got home! Photos courtesy of Megan Yunupingu.

15.01.2022 Recognising excellence in contemporary Australian design, the Rigg Design Prize is the highest accolade for object and furniture design in Australia. We were honoured for our ongoing collaboration with Koskela to be selected as a finalist amongst the best and most innovative designers in Australia today. Not even the two cyclones (that wiped out all the pandanus on the island) could stop this force! Congratulations Mavis Ganambarr, Judy Manany, Megan Yunupingu, Margaret Dhorrpuy, Ruth Lulwarriwuy, Verity Burarrwanga, Sharon Djalambarr, Sasha Titchkosky, Russel Koskela and all who made this exhibition possible. Congratulations to Adam Goodrum who was named winner of the Rigg Prize 2015. Special thanks to Australia Council for the Arts for their generous support of this project.

Opening 5.30pm at the Nan Giese Gallery, CDU. We're very excited about this exhibition, & hope to see some of you there!

09.01.2022 Fantastic article in this month's OUThere Magazine (Airnorth's in-flight publication) featuring the Yuta Badayala lampshade collaboration with weavers from Elcho Island Arts and Koskela. The 4-page article features an interview with artist and master weaver, Mavis Warrngilna Ganambarr. A big thank you to Sasha, Russel and team for this unique and inspiring ongoing collaboration. Perfect Partners indeed!

08.01.2022 We are proud to announce our collaboration with Koskela has been selected as one of 7 finalists in the Rigg Design Prize 2015, at National Gallery of Victoria. We can't wait to share this exhibition of new work with you, combining traditional Yolngu weaving practice with contemporary design in a truly unique collaboration, which began six years ago and continues to excite and inspire us. Exhibition dates: 18 September 2015 - 16 February 2016.... With thanks to Australia Council for the Arts for their support. http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/rigg-design-prize-2015/

07.01.2022 Pandanas dyeing day.

05.01.2022 Following cyclones Lam & Nathan earlier this year there has been a shortage of Pandanas on the island. Some of our weavers - Rosanna Djandi, Judy Manany, Mavis Warrngilna, Margaret Dhorrpuy & Megan Yunupingu are in Gove this week, harvesting Pandanas & collecting bush materials for dying the Pandanas fibres. Here they are hard at work this morning stripping the leaves, with help from some Gove ladies as well! Photos courtesy of Megan Yunupingu.

02.01.2022 Senior students from Shepherdson College had a great time at the art centre today learning from our staff along with their teacher Michelle Swanborough & Ewen from Learning on Country as part of their Arts Program.
