18.01.2022 Donnybrook's heritage railway precinct progress. Donnybrook's old railway goods shed restoration and revitalisation of the surrounding area is coming along fant...astically. It is part of the Donnybrook Town Centre Revitalisation Project. How fabulous to still have these old heritage features to now highlight, as is being done in many towns. Donnybrook’s rail history began in 1893 when the South West railway was extended from Boyanup to Minninup, as the station was first known. In 1912 the station became a junction station, and in 1929 a new station building was built. Rail was used to transpot locally grown apples that Donnybrook is well known for. Many Bunbury children remember a journey on the Leschenault Lady steam engine from Bunbury to Donnybrook and back for school to join in the Donnybrook Apple Festival! The fact that this area is adjacent to the children's fun park and right next to the main street is an absolute winner.
