12.01.2022 If you are not a nurse, you can go back to your fucking country. Said Australian PM Scomo For those international people who have limited knowledge about Australian politics, its time to meet our dear PM Scomo. All information is available at Wikipedia tho. Scomo graduated from UNSW the best university in Australia majored in economic geography. So Id like to assume he has basic economic common sense about how international people contribute to a immigration country. ... He also has decades of experience in tourism industry, including of being the minister for immigration and border protection in the Abbott Government. So Id like to assume he understands that migration makes important social and economic contributions to destination countries, culturally enriching their society, enhancing the tourism product and providing labour for the travel, tourism, hospitality and catering sectors. He then was the minster for social service. So Id assume he understands how average people with minimum income struggle when unexpected like covid-19 happens. Yet all his opinion about international people stranded in Australia is - If you are not a nurse, you can go back to your fucking country, as if all the airline companies are operating normally and all the insurance companies are covering for the cancelled flights. But you know what? I am not too surprise our Scomo fellow made some conclusion as disgraceful as this. After all, he is the person who flew to Hawaii for holiday while the whole Australia is burning. Millions of dollars were donated by international students and backpackers. Now they are running out of money, good time to fuck off. I also remember he is the guy insisted to have schools open, yet his own children stayed at home. I wouldnt be too surprised if someone told me that Scomo cried out people stop panic buying, but he himself sneakily stocks tons of toilet paper.

04.01.2022 Why Australia needs to support international students? There are 570,000 student visa holders in Australia right now. According to a 2016 Australian Government commissioned report prepared by Deloitte Access Economics, international education brought Australia around $20,000 million income a year. (https://internationaleducation.gov.au//ValueInternationalE)... The Australian GDP figure in 2016 was $1,267,750 million (https://countryeconomy.com/gdp/australia?year=2016) It is not rock science to work out how much contribute international students have contributed to this country. If you feel like thats just cold numbers and that money didnt go to your pocket. Um.. you are probably wrong. The 2016 government commissioned report identified international student and education supported over 130,700 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) employees in 201415, accounting for 1.3% of Australias total employment. And that was just the schools, more jobs were created in regional area (5% of international students study in regional areas despite the best educational source of Australia is in Melbourne and Sydney), education related travel services such as airlines, education consultancy service, and other services as hospitality and retail etc. When you think the government shouldnt support international students in order to make sure Australians have more access to more governmental funds, it is equally important to consider if we kick out all international students by racism grudge, there would be 130,700 (2016 figures) full time employees becoming jobless and depending governmental funds. Australia has benefited from international students pay fees (average $30,000 per year in university), taxes, and consumption of services for 30 years. What Australia is going to do next, in supporting international students, would have a huge impact on the future recovery of this industry and Australian economics. Needless to say, the economics is fucked. This is only the beginning of the long winter. It is time for Australia help international student out or help Australia itself in a long-term future when everything one day started to recover. Australia is known as a safe, inclusive, supportive study destination to the world. That is why people chose to visit or study here at the first place. During this particular hardship, international students who are away from their family, who do not have access to return their home country as multiple airlines stopped operation, who are experiencing emotional or financial hardship, need to feel welcome and supported, not hated and blamed.
