06.01.2022 Failing to Plan Is Planning To Fail.... Or is it? One of the things James and I have learned since we started running business more intentionally is the art of planning. I did it in my Massage Clinic and James did it at his design agency. ... There are some really important lessons we have discovered along the way. It's not the actual planning - thats just a matter of scheduling and most business can create time for that. We have learned its a number of factors like: Creating time and space for this where you are both present and un-distracted. Starting by acknowledging the incredible things you have ALREADY done and sitting in gratitude for this as you begin. Its being able to set realistic expectations of our work output in relation to our values around quality time and family. Its being able to understand who is responsible for what projects and what does the other person need in terms of hands on support in implementing that. Its about being able to ask really quality questions of each other to ensure the project is worth pursuing OR is it a case of as Steven King says - 'kill the darlings' because the character (or project) is not is not adding to main plot of the story. Its about having clear goals of what would have to have happen to KEEP the project because its successful or CAN the project because it wasn't. Its about checking the internal and external congruency of each of your projects to ensure that you are aligned so that the implementation of the project is almost easy because you know its already happened - you're just waiting for time to catch up. Its about having fun with the process (Cheese and the dog featured heavily in our time together!) Using colour and creativity along the way - "what colour is THAT project Leasha?" and "James - NO thats the wrong colour!!" (this is one of my fav games to play when planning!) Then we know it's about having behavioural flexibility as you take action on the work. Remembering to stop, breathe and rest. Then take loads of action, be focused, discerning, and joyful throughout the process of implementation. So much of what we got through last weekend has been the culmination of around 8 years of practice and 6 business coaches styles of planning for us to create one that works for us and that we also teach to our clients.
