25.01.2022 Headline News As some of you will already know the NSW Sports Minister has given the Green Light to sports to commence training providing they are adhering to... the now amended public health orders in NSW principally the revised order limits gatherings to 10 people or less, and requires the continued adherence to social distancing of 1.5m within these small groups. However, the Minister has made it a key condition for Sporting clubs to get approval from their Council (or whichever other body controls the access arrangements for their Club facilities). We do not have an ETA for the Office of Sport Framework or Guidelines for the return to Community Sport as yet but we have the Ministers approval to start training subject to conditions. Where does that leave SJRU Clubs? The SJRU endorses the return to training for our Clubs/Districts, however our clubs must ensure they do a number of items to get back to training. Please all refer to the recent email sent to all clubs for further information.

23.01.2022 In a training, this message was shared. A leader said that one of the most important things that she looks for in potential workers is flexibility. As coaches, ...we know how important it is to have a plan. It is also important to have contingency plans. As the old saying goes, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." If we can teach our athletes how to be flexible, we can make them better athletes because they can handle more and different situations. The more situations that we can find comfort and success in, the more that we can stay in the game.

18.01.2022 "One of my friends asked "Why do you pay so much money for your kids to do all their sports? Well I have a confession to make; I dont pay for my kids to to do... sports. Personally, I couldnt care less about what sport they do. So, if I am not paying for sports what am I paying for? - I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to quit but dont. - I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are "too tired" to go to their training but they go anyway. - I pay for my kids to learn to be disciplined, focused and dedicated. - I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their body and equipment. - I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good team mates, gracious in defeat and humble in success. - I pay for my kids to learn to deal with disappointment, when they dont get that placing or title theyd hoped for, but still they go back week after week giving it their best shot. - I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals. - I pay for my kids to respect, not only themselves, but other riders, officials and coaches. - I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours, years and years of hard work and practice to create a champion and that success does not happen overnight. - I pay for my kids to be proud of small achievements, and to work towards long term goals. - I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make life-long friendships, create lifelong memories, to be as proud of their achievements as I am. - I pay so that my kids can be out on the track instead of in front of a screen... ...I could go on but, to be short, I dont pay for sports; I pay for the opportunities that sports provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far I think it is a great investment!"

11.01.2022 Attention all TICs, Directors of Sport, Sports Co-ordinators, Club delegates, or anyone leading sport in schools, clubs, sports.... The Tale of 2 coaches: 2 co...aches started 2019 full of enthusiasm, both exceptional people and hugely skilful coaches. 1 coach had 2 assistant coaches, a mentor from the club, 2 great B team coaches and generally great support around him. The other was by himself coaching 2 teams, scrambling together players to front on Saturday, chasing sponsors, doing club admin, well actually everything. The result? 1 coached thrived and was retained. The other coach burnt out and gone. The moral... support your key volunteers... But... guess what.... You may be in the same boat as coach 2. Working long hours, hardy get thanked, dealing with upset parents about team selections, sorting regos and entry forms, collecting subs, chasing sponsors, pleading for coaches..... and why? Because you love giving back and seeing your kids, players and community thriving. Thanks to all you do!!! Now.... We have set up a new group for you all to join called Leaders In Sport which will be a place to share, collaborate, learn and share stories. So go from survival mode to thrival mode. Or if youre going good, then go to great, or from great to world class... there will be something for everyone. So find the Leaders In Sport group here in Thriving Kiwi Coaches and lets get it on. Please share with relevant people in your space to share the love.

08.01.2022 Further to yesterdays announcement on the Boys U18 Rep program for 2020 we received a lot of questions back. Please share this with your players, clubs, school...s & parents. To clarify further here are some of the FAQs & answers.. Is Reps back on for 2020 now? No SJRU, CJRU, NSWJRU, NSW Schools and Australian Schools Rep programs for 2020 are all still cancelled. GEN BLUE Under 18s are the only age group where a carnival of games is planned. Are we selecting SJRU & CJRU U18 teams? No there will be a number of NSW Junior Barbarians teams from CHS, CCC, AICES & Club rugby U18s for the purpose of the GEN BLUE trials. Is GEN BLUE on for U15 / U16? There will be a GEN BLUE Camp at the start of October for the U15 / U16 Age group. Players will be invited from their school/club form. Is the Waratah Development Academy for U13 / U14 on in 2020? Unfortunately not - focus is on club / school rugby & participation. How will players be identified? 07.01.2022 NSW Juniors U18 Rep Rugby & GEN BLUE update With all the continuing changes within the rugby landscape (due to COVID-19 recommendations etc) it has meant th...at NSW Rugby has had to be quite flexible in our plans for 2020. 05.01.2022 Do You Understand? Sweet! Our coach asks us if we understand and we all just nod. And he goes Sweet. But I can tell not everyone does understand (16 year ol...d girl) So youve just explained the worlds best game-plan. Youve been clear and concise, youve delivered with passion and conviction. You then wrap it up with one of three questions... Do you understand? Does that make sense? You got that? Half the players nod and the other half of the group go yip. The players then proceed to muck up every part of the game plan and youre left tearing your hair out. Our players enjoy being questioned as it hands over power and gets them thinking. But how we question can be a bit of an art. Commonly we will ask closed questions that dont require any effort from the players. So consider other approaches to check for understanding. E.g. Sarah - what is your role? What will we do in this situation Matthew? What questions do you have for me? (Wait 20 seconds - go on, try it) So all good?
