24.01.2022 Lets talk holidays. Ive been asked a lot from people going away on holiday what they should do before they leave. Often people resort to starving themselves and training twice as much to prepare, but this will just set you up for failure. What do you do when you go on holiday? Probably train less and eat more so you can guess how the body is going to respond (helloooo weight gain). Now whilst the main thing about holidays is to enjoy yourself, to minimise the damage you... do its important you get your metabolism to a really healthy point before you leave. Because even if your food choices on holiday may not be ideal, your body will be more adept at utilising that much food and putting it to greater use. 24.01.2022 Dont ever let anything dictate to you what your goals should be. This is my bundle of muscle client @danniwithtwoens who wanted to compete this year. Despite her having the muscle, we sat down and properly reviewed what would be best for her based on everything in her life. It doesnt mean removing that goal, but simply turning it into a longer term goal and then implementing short term goals to get there eventually. This way we can achieve what she wants but when everything else is aligned correctly (Work, health, imbalances, relationships, motivation etc)

20.01.2022 Control your variables control your results. Sure you can just exercise and eat healthy and youll feel good and potentially improve your physique, but if you have specific body composition goals and want continued results you need to understand your output (reps, sets, tempo, intensity, % weight, rest, phases etc), input (nutrition - % deficit, % surplus etc) and external factors (stress, digestion, sleep etc) and implement a short and long term strategy. 20.01.2022 It is refreshing to see someone with a public profile actually endorse the basics of healthy living and eating the right food and training hard, rather then encouraging people to try some fad diet. As soon as I read "Singer loses 7kg in 2 weeks" I straight away assumed it was going to be a blatant plug for some new craze, but this was a relief. 16.01.2022 Two approaches anyone can use in relation to training and nutrition. 1. Find what works for YOU 2. Do what you ENJOY Now obviously some compromises are necessary, but everyone is different so there is no point following the latest workout or fad diet. Trial and error various methods and find what your body responds to best, but make sure your doing the style of training you enjoy, otherwise there is minimal chance you'll stick at it!
16.01.2022 2016 has brought an amazing bunch of new clients and a lot of new friendships. My two superstars Hilton and Caroline have come a long way in the last 12 months. Hilton has not only made huge changes to his body composition but also gotten stronger and finally deadlifting and squatting regularly again. Caroline is one of the hardest workers in the gym and people are always asking me if she's a powerlifter or athlete with the weights she moves. She came to me with some pretty epic issues with her metabolism and simply not eating enough food. She's done what I've told her and we've now got her eating as much as she ever has and is now almost ready for her first recomposition phase. Super proud of you guys and can't wait for 2017!
14.01.2022 Starting 2017 We've all enjoyed the festive period and no doubt over indulged on a few occasions. Some tips to start off next year successfully: DON'T severely restrict calories, you'll just end up bouncing back and reaching for the leftover chocolate DON'T do juice cleanses or shake diets, your body will naturally detoxify itself DO get back to eating quality clean food... DO ensure you have a lean source of protein every meal DO get back into training regularly DO set some short and long term goals That's it! 14.01.2022 Below is my recent personal transformation. These pictures are from March 2014 (top left), October 2014 (top right) to January/February 2015 (bottom). I spent many years learning my body and finding out what works for me, so I initially went about adding size over a six month period, then dieted down from November to February. I've continued to learn more and more about my body, which is why I tell my clients you need to find out methods that work for you (often trial and err...or) and then be consistent and work hard. Don't get caught up in following the latest fads or programs from friends then switch to another program when you don't get results. Patience is a huge factor so quit trying to find the quick fix! 12.01.2022 ESC client Erin knocking out a deadlift PB of 85kg! What I love most about coaching females is helping them push past the mental limits they place on themselves. Erin, like a lot of my other female athletes will tell me she did 50-60kg on her own but didn't want to push it. Then when she trains with me she's repping 85 for 5! It's great to see the look on their face when they realise it was just themselves getting in the road of themselves!

10.01.2022 4 months post comp, roughly 6-7kg up from stage weight. Everyone recovers differently, and whilst I did take some time off tracking food for my sanity levels, I was able to be ok with the expected fat gain all due to mental preparation before Comp. 06.01.2022 Expectations v reality. Holding yourself to high standards is a catch 22. When things are going well, they are going to keep you at a high level and ensure you have a higher chance of continually getting results. Theyll keep you working hard, training hard, staying strict and being diligent with all the 1%ers. The downside, is if you have had some time off for whatever reason, then these former expectations may not be able to be met which means you are going to feel like y...ou are failing over and over again. I see it a lot with clients that have periods of training at a high level, get to their desired body composition, great strength levels and optimal health but then are forced into time off from various reasons (travel, family, friends, injury). They get back into it and all of a sudden they cant just flick a switch and train 5-6 times a week and be 85/90% compliant with their food and because this was the norm, they feel like theyve failed. You must set NEW expectations that will then allow you to work back to your old ones otherwise itll be a vicious cycle. Example would be right I havent trained consistently in a month, for the next 2 weeks Im going to get to the gym 3x week and hit my calorie goal 4 times a week. I find this is hardest for people that are high achievers but very few can just switch straight back into what they were doing. Whatever it is, understand your new position and keep it REALISTIC! This will get you back to your previous standards a lot more effectively. See more
06.01.2022 Ive always admired Christian Bale for his willingness to change his body radically for roles. Im similar in the fact that Ive used myself as a test subject to understand all the approaches and make myself a better coach. Ive been a 70kg scrawny cardio bunny calorie counter, Ive been a 110kg bulky bro diet meathead, Ive been 90kg and lean, Ive been 80kg skinny fat, Ive been keto, paleo, carb heavy, intermittent fasting, calorie counting, macro counting, nutrient timing, carb back loading, front loading, calorie surplus, deficit, the list goes on. It has made me who I am and when someone asks me if they should do something I can at the very least share my experiences and help them make a more educated choice.
05.01.2022 On the weekend a former client visited town and popped in to catch up. I was blown away by the fact she gave me a present and this awesome card. It may seem a small gesture but meant a lot. She reflected on an experience she had with a new PT in Sydney. How it was such a difference and it just felt like they wanted her money and nothing more. Unfortunately that is the problem with us all holding the same title, yet the service offered is extremely different. As a personal t...rainer you you must be exactly that, personal and trainer. We are many roles, educators, motivators, trainers, psychologists, nutritionists, friends and many more. The money we earn is simply an outcome from the service we deliver. We must pride ourselves on giving each and every client as many tools as possible to succeed. 03.01.2022 The best part about this time of year is being able to reflect on the years success with my ESC clients #corny. Was bittersweet today as Roxy heads back to the ...UK for Christmas but we were able to do one last check in which yielded a 2kg weight loss and 3cm drop through her waist. All with a bung wrist which has prevented us from training upper body for the last 4 weeks. Legs all day errydayyyy. Not bad for a doctor with high stress levels!
