23.01.2022 The Importance of Iron! Feeling exhausted lately? If so, you might be lacking in iron - especially if you're a woman. Iron is the most common nutritional deficiency, and, almost 10% of women are iron deficient.... Why Do We Need Iron? Iron is an essential mineral as it helps to transport oxygen throughout the body. It’s an important component of haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lung. Haemoglobin represents about two-thirds of the body’s iron. If iron levels are low, the body can't make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells. And a lack of red blood cells leads to anaemia. When the body isn’t getting sufficient oxygen, it becomes fatigued. The resulting exhaustion can affect everything from your brain function to the immune system’s ability to fight off infections. If you're pregnant, severe iron deficiency may increase your baby's risk of being born too early, or smaller than normal. Iron is also necessary to maintain healthy cells, skin, hair, and nails. After menopause, iron needs drop and at the onset of menopause women need the same amount of iron as men. You might need iron supplementation if you: - Are pregnant or breastfeeding; - Are going through or have gone through menopause; - Are feeling constantly fatigued; - Suffer from Fibromyalgia; - Have kidney failure; - Have an ulcer, which can cause blood loss; - Have a gastrointestinal such as celiac disease, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis; - Take antacids, which can prevent your body from absorbing iron; - Have had weight loss (bariatric) surgery; - Exercise frequently; or - If you are a vegetarian or vegan. How Do You Know If You're Iron Deficient? - Experience shortness of breath; - Fatigue; - Have a fast heartbeat; - Have cold hands and feet; - Crave strange substances such as dirt or clay; - Have brittle and spoon shaped nails or hair loss; - Experience sores in the corner of the mouth; and - Have a sore tongue. Elixir Compounding Pharmacy specialises in compounding advanced nutrients, including Iron in varying dosages. We develop patient-centred treatment protocols based largely on advanced nutrient therapies. We offer complementary phone consultations where we assess symptoms and recommend an individualised treatment protocol. So, if you or someone you know is iron deficient, contact Elixir today. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fightfatigue #irondeficiency #livelifetothefull

20.01.2022 Finally, a face mask you’ll love! Just when you think you’ve got your routine down pat and you’re feeling like some kind of triumphant skincare Jedi, a new ingredient reveals itself! When the skincare world starts throwing words at you like AHA, Squalane and Retinol, it’s enough to send anyone back to a simple wash, moisturise and hope-for-the-best routine. So, what do these aggressively capitalised acronyms actually mean? Ask any expert, editor or beauty insider and they...’ll tell you AHAs and BHAs are at the top of their must-have skincare essentials, thanks to their game (and skin) changing effects. What exactly Are AHAs & BHAs? In the context of skincare, AHAs (also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (also known as Beta Hydroxy Acids), fall within the chemical exfoliant family. Unlike physical scrubs or exfoliants (products which use manual exfoliation to loosen dead skin), chemical exfoliants work to remove dead skin cells by breaking down the bonds (we like to refer to this as the glue), that holds the dead skin in place. This allows the dead and dull skin to shed, leaving us looking brighter and smoother all over. But, before you freak out thinking about all the dead skin cells that must be hanging out on your face right now, don’t panic - our skin does naturally exfoliate itself. However, as we age, this process slows down, leaving us with lazy skin that can look dull, bumpy, clogged, uneven and flaky. AHAs (which includes acids such as Glycolic and Lactic) are derived from sugar, milk and fruit and work on exfoliating the upper-most layer of the epidermis (the superficial or top layer of our skin). This is because the molecular size of AHAs is too large to penetrate deep into the skin, leaving it to work on surface imperfections. AHAs also help to stimulate collagen production (that’s the good stuff), by increasing collagen synthesis within the skin. While AHAs can be suitable for all skin types, they work particular magic on dry, dehydrated or more mature skin thanks to their ability to promote hydration and radiance, along with combating the signs of ageing. BHA (which includes Salicylic Acid), is derived from acetylsalicylic acids (AKA, Aspirin!). While BHA works similarly to AHAs, in that it exfoliates the skin, BHA has a smaller molecular weight (smaller molecule size) and is oil (lipid) soluble, which allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin, including within the pore itself! This makes BHA a great choice when it comes to treating congested, oily, spot-prone or bumpy skin. BHA can also help to regular oil production and has natural skin-calming properties. We’ve combined a mix of both AHA and BHA so you can get the best of both worlds! Our face mask has been developed to be used once or twice a week. 20.01.2022 The goodness that is Glutathione! Glutathione is an endogenous antioxidant. It is an essential antioxidant that is naturally found in every cell in the body and provides protection from free radicals and peroxides. Glutathione is produced from three amino acids: L-cysteine, glycine and L-glutamic acid. This antioxidant is essential in helping the body’s cellular defences and immune system function at full capacity.... In the body, glutathione acts a cell protectant. It also helps to maintain normal protein structures within the body, marking certain molecules for elimination as waste in the liver, and in important enzymatic reactions needed for neutralising potentially damaging free radicals throughout the body. It supports detoxification pathways and healthy functioning of the liver, kidneys, lungs, and intestinal tract. Available online at www.elixircompounding.com.au #GlutathioneGold #antioxidant

19.01.2022 Fibro Reflux Along with the classic Fibro symptoms pain, chronic fatigue and brain fog among others - there’s also another complication that people don’t often think about: GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. This condition, which causes stomach acid to wash back up into the esophagus, is painful and frustrating to have to live with. It can also lead to a serious complication called Intestinal Metaplasia. ... Intestinal Metaplasia and Fibromyalgia Metaplasia is a term that means that one type of cell mutates into a different cell. When it comes to Intestinal Metaplasia, the cells in the esophagus turn into intestinal cells, resulting in a condition called Barrett’s esophagus. When the cells in the esophagus constantly sense that they are exposed to gastric acid as a result of GERD, they shift to become intestinal cells since intestinal cells are adapted to dealing with that acid. Fibro sufferers are at a much higher risk of developing GERD. In fact, almost sixty percent of sufferers experience some form of heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease. At Elixir, we specialise in treating Fibro. We offer complementary face-to-face and phone consultations where we discuss individual symptoms and recommend a personalised treatment protocol to get our sufferers Fibro under control. 18.01.2022 Fibro and Irritable Bowel Syndrome Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the more common gastrointestinal conditions which are present in around 12% of the general population. It is also a very common co-factor in Fibro sufferers. Symptoms of IBS:... The typical presentation of the condition includes continued, persistent or recurrent abdominal pain and/or discomfort and associated alterations in bowel habits. Some may have predominant constipation while others have predominant diarrhea. There are several non-gastrointestinal symptoms that affect these individuals as well. These include rheumatologic symptoms, such as skin rashes, muscle contractions, muscle pain (myalgia), headache etc. These symptoms have been seen in nearly two-thirds of irritable bowel syndrome patients. IBS and Fibromyalgia: There have been several studies that show that the features of irritable bowel syndrome typically overlap those of Fibro. Around 70% of Fibro sufferers have some form of IBS. Symptoms include: - Abdominal pain and cramping that is typically relieved or partially relieved by passing a bowel movement; - Excess gas; - Diarrhea or constipation sometimes alternating between the two and occasionally having both happen during the same bowel movement; - Mucus in the stool; - Bloating; - Nausea; and / or - Back Pain (due to cramping). Symptoms occurring outside of the digestive tract that might be related to IBS include sleep disturbances, chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, temporomandibular joint disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and migraine headaches. Treatment Options: L-Glutamine and 5-HTP are both effective in treating IBS. 18.01.2022 Winning the Back Pain Battle with Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) Back pain ranges in intensity from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp or shooting pain. Chronic back pain is just that it’s chronic and it sucks! Clinically, we defined as pain that continues for 12 weeks or longer. About 20 percent of people affected by acute low back pain develop chronic low back pain with persistent symptoms Most chronic back pain occurs in the lower across five vertebrae referred to ...as L1-L5 in the lumbar region, which supports much of the weight of the upper body. The spaces between the vertebrae are maintained by round, rubbery pads called intervertebral discs that act like shock absorbers throughout the spinal column to cushion the bones as the body moves. Bands of ligaments hold the vertebrae in place, and tendons attach the muscles to the spinal column. Thirty-one pairs of nerves are rooted to the spinal cord and they control body movements and transmit signals from the body to the brain. Other regions of vertebrate are cervical (in the neck), thoracic (upper back), and sacral and coccygeal (below the lumbar area) segments. How we attack back pain. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA). PEA targets the root cause of back pain, neuropathic pain caused by hyper-excitable neurons that lead to heightened Mast Cell activation. PEA works as a disease modifying agent rather than a symptom modifying agent. On commencing the protocol, an initial ‘loading’ dose is required. It is critical that patients are monitored to ensure that dosage levels are adequate. Typically, most ‘load’ on 1200mg daily but it is not unusual for doses to be increased to up to 2400mg for the most chronic back pain. After loading, sufferer’s dosage is reduced to a ‘maintenance’ dose which for most, is 600mg per day. Elixir Compounding Pharmacy specialises in treating chronic pain. We develop patient-centred treatment protocols based largely on advanced nutrient therapies. We offer complementary phone consultations where we assess symptoms and recommend an individualised treatment protocol. So, if you or someone you know is fighting chronic back pain, contact Elixir today. www.elixircompounding.com.au #chronicpain #palmitoylethanolamide #beatingbackpain
16.01.2022 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome New Insights, New Treatment Protocols Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment syndrome worldwide, occurring in 3.8% of the general population. The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include nocturnal pain associated with tingling and numbness in the distribution of the median nerve in the hand. Disturbed sleep patterns are common in patients suffering from neuropathic pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome, and poor sleep c...an significantly impair physical and emotional functioning, cognitive ability and mood. Epidemiological evidence indicates poor sleep can be a consequence of pain. However, emerging evidence suggests a stronger effect of sleep disturbance on subsequent pain, with sleep deficiency a significant contributor to the onset and maintenance of pain itself. In the majority of patients, the exact cause of carpal tunnel syndrome is unknown. However, it is thought that chronic compression of nerves is associated with infiltrating immune cells such as mast cells present in the nerve and activated microglia in the spinal cord. Mast cells and microglia release algesic mediators and interact with neurons to alter pain sensitivity, which contribute to the development and maintenance of symptoms characteristic of entrapment neuropathies. Palmitoylethanolamide, or PEA, is a fatty amide signalling molecule that has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. Clinically, ultramicronised PEA (um-PEA) is effective in treating chronic pain associated with a range of conditions such as sciatica, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetic neuropathy. PEA has been shown to exert anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects through a broad range of physiological pathways involving mast cells, transcription factors, cannabinoid receptors and other endogenous anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective compounds. Given the association between pain and sleep disturbances, researchers aimed to assess the effectiveness of PEA in reducing pain intensity and improving the quality of sleep in patients with neuropathic pain due to carpal tunnel syndrome. In an open-controlled study among patients awaiting carpal tunnel syndrome surgery with sleep disorders and painful symptoms, sufferers reported a significant reduction in pain and an improvement in sleep after just 60 days of PEA supplementation. Given the relationship between pain and sleep disorders, a holistic approach to pain management should now be included in neuropathic pain management protocols. If you or someone you love is suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or neuropathic pain, contact Elixir today for your complementary phone consultation. www.elixircompounding.com.au #carpaltunnelsyndrome #neuropathicpain #fightfibro

14.01.2022 Spotlight on Iron! Iron deficiency the problem: Tired? You may be Iron Deficient! In fact, iron deficiency is the leading cause of fatigue among women between the time of menstruation and menopause. Adolescents and women of childbearing age need to regularly replace the iron that is eliminated through the menstrual cycle.... Iron is an essential element for blood production. About 70 percent of your body's iron is found in the red blood cells of your blood called hemoglobin and in muscle cells called myoglobin. Hemoglobin is essential for transferring oxygen in your blood from the lungs to the tissues. Myoglobin, in muscle cells, accepts, stores, transports and releases oxygen. About 6 percent of body iron is a component of certain proteins, essential for respiration and energy metabolism, and as a component of enzymes involved in the synthesis of collagen and some neurotransmitters. Iron also is needed for proper immune function. About 25 percent of the iron in the body is stored as ferritin, found in cells and circulating throughout the blood. The average adult male has about 1,000 mg of stored iron (enough for about three years), whereas women on average have only about 300 mg (enough for about six months). When iron intake is chronically low, stores can become depleted, decreasing hemoglobin levels. Serious iron deficiency can lead to anemia. Blood loss is the most common cause of iron deficiency. In men and postmenopausal women, iron deficiency is almost always the result of gastrointestinal blood loss. In menstruating women, genitourinary blood loss often accounts for increased iron requirements. Oral contraceptives tend to decrease menstrual blood loss, whereas intrauterine devices tend to increase menstrual bleeding. Other causes of genitourinary bleeding and respiratory tract bleeding also increase iron requirements. During periods of growth in infancy, childhood and adolescence, iron requirements may outstrip the supply of iron from diet and stores. Iron loss from tissue growth during pregnancy and from bleeding during delivery and post-partum averages 740 mg. Breastfeeding increases iron requirements by about 0.5 to 1 mg per day. Iron Requirements: Iron is not made in the body and must be absorbed from our diet. The adult minimum daily requirement of iron is 1.8 mg. Only about 10 to 30 percent of the iron that is consumed in our diet is absorbed and used by the body. The daily requirement of iron can be achieved by taking iron supplements. Ferrous Gluconate 50mg, taken orally once to twice a day, combined with Ascorbic Acid 500mg to aid iron absorption can dramatically improve how you feel, and your health. Elixir compounds iron in both liquid and capsule form. So, if you’re iron deficient, contact Elixir today. #irondeficiency #anemia #compoundedadvancednutrients www.elixircompounding.com.au
13.01.2022 Fibromyalgia and Histamine Intolerance There’s a direct connection between histamines, Fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome. Overactive Mast Cells (the underlying cause of Fibro pain) drive high levels of histamine which often drive symptoms including allergies and sensitivity to pollen. We know that Mast Cell Activation (MSA) can cause postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). MCA causes orthostatic intolerance, particularly in sufferers who experience ‘flushing’. In... addition to flushing, sufferers often experience shortness of breath, headache, skin rashes, light-headedness, excessive urination, and gastrointestinal symptoms (including vomiting). Histamines and MSA play a significant role in a subset of sufferers with Fibro, ME/CFS and POTS. Histamines A Quick Overview: Histamine is a potent signalling molecule or biogenic amine made from the amino acid histidine. It is naturally found in plants and animals. Histamine helps regulate many bodily functions including digestion, sleep, sexual function, and blood pressure, and in the brain, it functions as a neurotransmitter, carrying chemical messages between nerve cells. Under normal circumstances small amounts of histamine help to facilitate health and balance in many systems of the body. In response to foreign pathogens, wounds and allergies, however, large quantities of histamine are released in our bodies by Mast Cells and Basophils - two types of white blood cells that reside in blood and tissues respectively. Those with allergies often take antihistamine medications to provide relief of symptoms associated with this inflammatory response. Histamine exerts its effects by binding to four different receptor sites on cells. Each site is able to produce different symptoms by impacting different tissues and organ systems. Putting a Halt to the Histamine Hell: Because Fibro pain is driven by MSA, many sufferers also suffer the side effects caused by excessive histamines. Thankfully, there is a way to reduce MSA and histamine activity Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA). PEA works by ‘binding’ to, and de-activating overactive mast cells. Because PEA is targeting the root cause of the pain problem, the very immune cells that make the neurons hyper-excitable in the first place this allows PEA to act more as a disease modifying agent rather than a symptom modifying agent. So, if you’ve got a rowdy party full of Fibro pain and histamine hell going on in your body, contact Elixir Compounding today. We offer complementary face-to-face or phone consultations where we can discuss your individual symptoms and recommend a treatment protocol to get your party under control. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fightfibro #fightMECFS #ridtheworldofchronicpain #painpartyisover

Peptides are biologically active signalling molecules, made of amino acids (the same stuff that makes up proteins, the stuff that makes up around 20% of your lean body mass, another 60% being water and the rest a mix of stuff including your bone minerals). Amino acids arranged in certain shapes and sizes can act like keys for a range of biological processes where they typically deliver the signal that ...tells a process to move. In the cosmetic space some of these processes include the key to unlocking collagen synthesis, elastin arrangement, melanin production, inflammation, microbe fighting and barrier protection. 12.01.2022 Spotlight on Low Dose Naltrexone Naltrexone is often classified as an opiate antagonist. However, at low-doses, Naltrexone acts to inhibit certain inflammatory pathways. How Naltrexone Works:... LDN is most commonly being used for Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Multiple Sclerosis, CFS/ME, autoimmune thyroid diseases, and various cancers. It is a potent antagonist to certain opioid receptors and a wide range of inflammation-mediating Toll-Like Receptors Toll-Like Receptors (TLR) are heavily involved in immunity. LDN is a potent antagonist of TLR-4, TLR-7, TLR-8 and TLR-9. For those interested in reading more about the pharmacology behind this, there is a published resource available here: https://www.ldnresearchtrust.org/ldn-book LDN is an antagonist for the Opiate/Endorphin receptors which causes increased Endorphin release. Increased Endorphins modulate the immune response. It is also an antagonist for immune cells which reduces inflammation and down-regulates oncogenes. Dosing: The normal dose of LDN is between 0.5mg and 4.5mg. Side Effects: LDN can cause sleep disturbances if taken at night this is most likely because of the increase in endorphin release. These disturbances can take the form of vivid dreams, or insomnia. This side effect can be counteracted by taking melatonin. Very rarely, some patients experience gastro-intestinal side effects, such as nausea and or constipation/diarrhea. Need more information? Elixir specialises in treating chronic pain and compounds LDN in both liquid and capsule form. 09.01.2022 Fibromyalgia & Gut Health! Fibro is a systemic disease that mainly affects the nerves, muscles, their attachments (tendons, ligaments) and coverings (fascia). It also affects many other parts of the body, including the stomach, bowels and female organs. Pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, mood imbalance, allergies, skin problems, adrenal stress, anxiety, hyperthyroidism, headache, migraine, breast tenderness and hormonal imbalances are common symptoms. ... But as if that isn’t enough for sufferers to deal with, there is another overlooked, critical and almost universal symptom - gut and digestive problems including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Leaky Gut. Signs and Symptoms: Excessive gas and swelling, abdominal cramping and a bloated feeling are the most common. Some sufferers also experience chronic constipation that is periodically interrupted with episodes of chronic diarrhoea. Painful bowel movements are also common, particularly during menstrual cycles. As are bladder spasms which manifests itself as pain over the pubic bone and pain when urinating. Making Your Gut Great Again: The importance of gut health in Fibro sufferers cannot be overstated. Notwithstanding the severity of symptoms, poor gut health dramatically compromises the absorption of the advanced nutrients that fight Fibro namely, PEA, Magnesium as Glycinate, NADH and CoQ10. There are many strategies to improve gut health. These depend on each sufferer’s specific symptoms and their severity. This can range from a simple probiotic right through to advanced intervention using Chinese Medicine. If you’re fighting Fibro and suspect you have gut issues, contact Elixir today. We specialise in treating Fibro and provide advice and information treating this debilitating condition. We develop patient-centred treatment protocols based largely on advanced nutrient therapies. We offer complementary phone consultations where we assess symptoms and recommend an individualised treatment protocol. 09.01.2022 Fibromyalgia and Sleep Disorder! Specific sleep disturbances impact more than 70% of Fibro sufferers. Lack of (or poor quality) sleep leads to extreme fatigue and heightened adrenalin levels that amplifies pain levels and causes pain ‘flares’. Daytime elevation in pain makes it more difficult sleep, leading to yet more pain the next day and even less sleep the next night, and so the vicious cycle continues! While insomnia is the sleep disorder most people worry about, ther...e are other sleep disturbances that are commonly linked, including: 1. Sleep Apnea, which causes sufferers to stop breathing multiple times during the night. 2. Restless Leg Syndrome, which causes tingling in one or both legs that is only relieved by movement. 3. Migraines, which are triggered by adrenal stress which occurs after a prolonged period of poor sleep. The real danger with sleep disorders is the impact on Fibro pain. Poor sleep = more adrenalin. More adrenalin = more pain and pain flares. One of the most critical parts of any Fibro or ME/CFS treatment protocol is addressing sleep disorders. Improving the quantity and quality of sleep can dramatically improve pain relief, particularly as adrenal levels decrease. One of the most effective ways improve sleep is to take a compounded Melatonin as Troche. A ‘troche’ is a lozenge which is placed under the tongue to dissolve and is absorbed through the blood vessels in the cheeks. It relaxes within 10 minutes and takes affect within 30 minutes. Because it is a compound, sufferers don’t wake up feeling groggy. So, if you or someone you love is finding it hard to get a good night rest, contact Elixir today. We offer complementary face-to-face and phone consultations where we can discuss your individual symptoms and provide advice on a treatment protocol that’s right for you. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fightfibro #fightME/CFS #sleepbetter #ridtheworldofchronicpain

08.01.2022 Is your Doggy Anxious? Woof Woof is Code for I Need Gabba! Many Doggies struggle with anxiety, stress and attachment disorders. ... What is GABA? GABA is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the body. It works in the doggy brain as a neurotransmitter, which is a type of chemical messenger. The GABA neurotransmitter is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. This means that it inhibits or blocks specific brain signals while also decreasing nervous system activity. GABA attaches to the GABA receptors in the brain and produces a calm and relaxed feeling. Why GABA Rocks for Dogs! Low levels of GABA are linked to an increase in feelings of stress and anxiety. This condition may also trigger insomnia and cause your Pup issues like headaches and muscle pain. These symptoms may be the result of chronic muscle tension, which can be brought on by anxiety and stress. There are many benefits that come with increasing GABA levels in your Pup including: Reduced Anxiety; One of the primary reasons to increase GABA is to help minimise your Dogs feelings of anxiety. There is strong research that suggests this can be helpful. Enhanced Sleep; Increased GABA can lead to better sleep quality, too. Reduced stress and Fatigue; Chronic stress can contribute to chronic fatigue for many Pups. Raising levels of GABA can help to combat this. How to Increase your Pups GABA? Elixir Compounding Pharmacy specialises in compounding advanced nutrients, including GABA for Pups! So, if your Puppy needs a little GABA in their life, contact Elixir today. www.elixircompounding.com.au #gaba #fightanxiety #fightfatigue #gabadeficiency #doggyanxiety

07.01.2022 Climate and fibromyalgia. Why Fibro sufferers beat any weather forecaster ... hands down! Those who suffer from fibromyalgia often report significant pain flares during extreme weather conditions both hot and cold. Many also struggle as the seasons change. But why?... Essentially, Fibro causes our bodies internal thermostat to break making sufferers extremely sensitive to the weather and in particular, extreme weather. A malfunctioning internal thermostat known as deregulation - causes many to feel either cold or hot all the time. Several studies have confirmed this as a common fibro symptom which is called temperature sensitivity. During hot weather, fibro sufferers are prone to an increase in pain, fatigue and exhaustion. Excessive sweating and body moisture often causes joint pain and is also associated with the onset of headaches and migraines. During the colder months, pain becomes the primary protagonist and is often prolonged as the body struggles to regulate to a state of warmth. Put simply, the body takes much longer to warm up, even when a sufferer is in front of a heater. With fibro, the body takes longer to warm from the cold and cool from the heat. Small environmental stimuli, like working above an air conditioner vent can make a huge difference in minimising weather related pain flares. If you or someone you love sufferers from fibromyalgia contact Elixir today for your complementary phone consultation where we can provide information and advice on treatment protocols. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fightfibro #fibromyalgia #fibroweather
07.01.2022 Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) It’s kind of weird when the name of a medicine contains the term ‘low-dose’. However, the term low-dose is very important here. LDN is used to treat a number of chronic conditions, most notably Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, ME/CFS, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Regional Pain Syndrome. ‘Low-dose’ refers to dosages that are about 10 times lower than dosages used for treating opioid dependency. In low doses, Naltrexone sightly inhibits opioid recepto...rs which increases of the production of beta-endorphins. This affects a receptor found in macrophages which promotes anti-inflammatory effects and helps with a number of autoimmune diseases. LDN also benefits to the immune system. There is also new evidence emerging that LDN helps fight Cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease. Elixir compounds Naltrexone in low doses between of 0.5-4.5mg in both liquid and capsule form. 05.01.2022 Restless Leg Syndrome You’ve finished dinner and are doing your best to relax on the couch in front of the TV when suddenly you get the overwhelming urge to move your Leg. You may even feel some pain or a prickling/burning sensation. Moving your Leg around helps, but once you stop, the urge starts up again. You head to bed and it gets worse, making it virtually impossible to sleep. This, on top of your Fibro pain leads to a sleepless night. In the morning you wake in pai...Continue reading
05.01.2022 Covid-Safe Your Skincare Routine! Few would have believed that face coverings would become part of our daily routines, certainly in Victoria. Aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19, the reality is masks often promote the spread of another condition, namely blocked skin pores. This spike in skin problems include irritation, redness pimple flares and even acne (or the 2020 buzz term maskne). The Covid-Safe Recalibrated Skincare Plan: ... 1. Steer clear of harsh scrubs, heavy-duty exfoliants, and thick creams, which have a propensity to exacerbate congestion. Instead, reach for just a gentle cleanser, hydrating toner, light serum and gentle moisturiser. Prioritise skin-soothing ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and niacinamide. Be sure to wait five minutes after application before putting on your mask, in order to allow the products to absorb into the skin. Check out ... Elixir Hyaluronic Acid Elixir Niacinamide Elixir Ultra Day Cream Available online at https://www.elixircompounding.com.au/ 2. Cleanse and Assess Your Complexion: A little TLC goes a long way in caring for our skin amid our new-world mask wearing normal. The importance of gently cleansing the skin in order to remove trapped sweat and debris after taking off a mask is a really effective way to keep skin clean and healthy. Check out ... - Elixir Daily Cleansing Face Wash - Elixir Lactic Cleanser - Elixir Deep Cleansing Oil Available online at https://www.elixircompounding.com.au/ 3. Wash Your Mask Regularly: It’s essential to cleanse not only your complexion regularly but also your face covering. This prevents the reintroduction of dirt and oil. It’s best to use hot water and a fragrance-free detergent as fragrance can often irritate the skin and ultimately cause inflammation and acne formation. 4. Forgo the Foundation, If Possible: The application of foundation under the mask can clog pores and lead to breakouts. So, while face coverings might be here for the forceable future, you can still love ya skin with Elixir’s personalised skincare. www.elixircompounding.com.au #loveyaskin #isoskincare

03.01.2022 Fibro Sweats! Unexplained and excessive sweating is a common problem with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Excessive sweating is one of those bizarre symptoms that rarely make it onto the symptoms list. That’s understandable since it’s not as severe as the core issues; Fibro pain and Fibro fatigue. That said, sweating can have a major impact on sufferers’ lives.... Causes: Several factors could be responsible for our sweating, either on their own or in combination, and include: - Autonomic nervous system dysfunction; - Heat sensitivity due to high adrenal levels; - High norepinephrine levels, as a side effect of antidepressants; and - Anxiety, as a symptom or overlapping condition. Solving for the Sweats: One of the most effective ways to reduce excessive sweating is to reduce adrenal stress essentially, cooling the bodies engine down. Fibro sufferers have high adrenal levels. It’s the bodies way of helping sufferers fight through persistent chronic pain. High adrenal levels is akin to a cars engine stuck is in third gear hurtling down the highway at 100km/hr put simply, the engine is persistently over-revving and HOT! There are effective ways to reduce adrenal stress, including: - Reducing Fibro pain using PEA and Magnesium as Glycinate; - Restoring sleep with Melatonin in ‘Troche’ form; and - Reducing oxidative stress with NAD+ and CoQ10 (our Advanced Chronic Fatigue Support). Get a treatment plan that’s personalised and right for you! There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to managing Fibro. Symptoms vary from person to person. The best treatment outcomes are achieved where treatment protocols are developed for you, the individual. This means developing a protocol that is based on you, your spectrum of symptoms and how sever each symptom is. Critically, sufferers need to be monitored over the first few months of embarking on their Fibro protocol. Elixir Compounding Pharmacy specialises in treating Fibromyalgia. We develop patient-centred treatment protocols based largely on advanced nutrient therapies. We offer complementary phone consultations where we assess symptoms and recommend an individualised treatment protocol. So, if you or someone you know is fighting Fibro, contact Elixir today. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fibromyalgia #fightfibro #fibrosweats #ridtheworldofchronicpain
03.01.2022 Fibromyalgia and Allergic Rhinitis Allergic Rhinitis is the body’s response to allergens. Many Fibro sufferers report symptoms that can range from mild side effects like sneezing to more critical symptoms like anaphylaxis. As the word Rhinitis suggests, it is all about the impact on your nose. With pollen allergies specifically, it feels similar to the symptoms of a cold. Common Allergic Rhinitis triggers include food, dust, and smoke. But the most common culprit is polle...n. In Fibro, mast (and to a lesser extent glial cells) are overactive. Overactive mast cells cause the body to secrete histamines. This often results in what we call Fibro-Histo-Fever resulting in a persistent itchy throat, sensitivity to pollen, skin rashes and sensitivity to certain smells (in particular, strong perfumes and smoke). Pain in the nasal region without exposure to allergens can also be a sign of Allergic Rhinitis. So, if you’ve got a rowdy Allergic Rhinitis party upsetting your sinuses, contact Elixir Compounding today. We specialise in treating Fibro and offer complementary face-to-face and phone consultations where we can discuss your individual symptoms and recommend a treatment protocol to get your Fibro under control. www.elixircompounding.com.au #fightfibro #ridtheworldofchronicpain #painpartyisover #AllergicRhinitis
