22.01.2022 Although 70% of the risk for developing thyroid disease is attributed to genetic predisposition, environmental and lifestyle triggers are thought to play a role in the development in susceptible individuals. Above are 10 of the associated triggers for an individual to develop thyroid disease. 1. Nutrient deficiencies - of vital nutrients needed for thyroid function including iodine, tyrosine, selenium, zinc, iron and more. 2. Oestrogen excess - high oestrogen increases thyr...oid binding globulin which can bind to thyroid hormone rendering it inactive. Furthermore oestrogen is known to modulate T cell mediated immunity. 3. Pregnancy - can trigger thyroid disease because oestrogen increases significantly. 4. Exposure to radioactive fallout or medical devices can lead to thyroid disease 5. Endocrine disrupters - specifically chemicals which you have heard me speak about before. These chemicals impact the thyroids ability to produce hormone. 6. Autoimmunity - when the immune system can no longer distinguish between self and non-self then it can start to attack your own tissues. Risk of further autoimmunity will increase after one diagnosis. 7. Chronic under eating - in the case of an eating disorder or excessive sport can lead to a dysfunction of the pituitary gland that governs the thyroid. 8. Stress - chronic ongoing stress signals to the body its in danger. Cortisol can increase thyroid hormone binding globulin and cause insulin resistance which impacts cellular utilisation of thyroid hormone. 9. Adrenal dysfunction - because the hypothalamus and pituitary gland govern the thyroid, ovarian and adrenal axis. When one axis is compromised then we can see the others start to be affected. 10. Gut infections - to be honest you can add all infections to this category, not just gut infections. But if we are talking specifically about digestive infections, these can contribute to leaky gut which can, if not addressed, lead to nutritional deficiencies and dysfunction of the immune system. . . . #thyroiddisease #thyroiddiseasetriggers #thyroidproblems #thyroidnaturopath #elixirnaturopathy #brisbanenaturopath #onlinenaturopath #hashimotosdisease #lowtoxlife #hormones See more

I hear clients mention all to often that they are either told to wait and watch or have been prescribed medication and sent on their merry way thinking this is all that can be done to support their health. So what else can be done? Becoming an advocate in your own healing journey is so important when receiving any diagnosis. The more you know the better equip you are to make choices that ...are best for you and your health long term. Particularly when it comes to easily modifiable areas such as nutrition and environmental exposures. Working 1:1 with a Naturopath can help you identify areas of your health that may need a little extra attention to optimise your wellbeing. . . . . #elixirnaturopathy #hashimotosdisease #thyroid #thyroiddiagnosis #thyroidnaturopath #brisbanenaturopath #womenshealth #naturalhealth #hypothyroid #thyroidhealing #autoimmunethyroiddisease #aip #nutrition #thyroidnutrition #eastbrisbane #eastbrisbanenaturopath #hypothyroidsymptoms #subclinicalhypothyroidism #autoimmunepaleo See more

09.01.2022 Could it be your thyroid? Find yourself unexplainably losing weight, having heart palpitations, or anxious beyond belief? These are all signs of an over active thyroid that begun producing too much thyroid hormone and shouldn't be ignored! Each year in Australia 3 in 1000 people are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Now that might not sound like that many. But when you consider that Australia has a population of over 25 million that adds up! . .... . . #elixirnaturopathy #hyperthyroidsymptoms #thyroidhealth #thyroidproblems #gravesdisease #thyroidnaturopath #brisbanethyroidnaturopath #eastbrisbane #brisbanenaturopath #nutrition #nourishyourthyroid #aip #autoimmunedisease #aipcertifiedcoach #health #womenshealth #hormones #hyperthyroidism See more

04.01.2022 We’re all different, so it makes sense that our ideal diet should be different too This is exactly what the AIP Protocol does for those burdened with autoimmune disease. It’s a passion of mine, so I created a beginners guide that breaks down exactly what we do with this protocol.
