25.01.2022 This is enough to bring a peaceful smile to a Friday night face

23.01.2022 I have a new order today for 3 music masks. Ive found that precision ironing directly improves the fit of the mask at the sides. Top stitching & seams are far more accurate.

21.01.2022 This is beautiful. Very simple. Ill be teaching it to help my students lighten their touch & just because its beautiful. For those who have contacted me re: the the piano music to Sonnys piece, "A Simple Prayer" - composed about 5 months ago - here is the link to Sheetmusic Plus. https://www.sheetmusicplus.com//a-simple-prayer-d/21828510

16.01.2022 Christopher Norton kills me

14.01.2022 Hmmm. Terrible situations.

14.01.2022 Vale Sonny Chua, a wonderful composer and generous human being. What a loss to the Australian music community. Lonesome Blues by Sonny Chua

14.01.2022 Clara Schumanns beautiful Romance, played by the expert hands of Helena Rathbone and Tamara-Anna Cislowska.

13.01.2022 4 years ago I had the following experience & reflection: The highlight of the week today - A young, very quiet 14yo student told me tonight that she finally asked at school if she could have access to a piano during lunchtimes and was told yes! She can go as often as she wants! I nearly cried with joy after it having taken so long for her to pluck up the courage to ask! Shes playing Believe from The Polar Express at a school concert for parents next term for the first tim...e ever! I asked her if shed told her dad yet and she said no. I said, Dad needs to be told! You never know! You might just make him cry with pride! She floated out of my door again tonight. She was shocked that I said that shed made my week. I dont think she has much experience with teachers who are authentic in their manner. Shes learning more than just how to play the piano. If I could describe in a nutshell what I want my purpose to be it would be that - facilitating my students to explore, experience and learn about more than just playing an instrument. Life lessons, which this evening included talking about that little voice inside who tells you that you can do it. I told her to let that voice out in the middle of the song. She seemed surprised that I knew about her little voices inside. Thats my purpose! To be real while taking my students on a journey of life through the medium of piano lessons. When I pointed to rit. in her music and said, Musicians can argue all day about whether this stands for ritardando or ritenuto. What do you think it means here? She laughed in surprise and gave me an instant and entirely logical response that worked. Self-mastery. And now I must submit to puffers and sleep. See more

13.01.2022 Beethoven with baby... ( @krystlerm)

11.01.2022 Buster J is back with his new single, "Little Pack of Peanuts." Featuring the magnificent Richard Vaudrey on cello.

11.01.2022 Rhythm exercises are very important for developing a sense of rhythm and co-ordination between the left and right hands. Yufei taps on the piano with the palms ...of his hands, playing many notes together. This is also good for freeing up the arms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUYlyrYcrUE&feature=emb_logo See more

09.01.2022 Local positions in Newcastle

07.01.2022 Im feeling utterly devastated to share the news that Sonny Chua died, without warning, on Tuesday afternoon. Several of my students shared the absolute joy of playing his music, that is so alive. While Ive never met Sonny & his wife Mel, Mel has become a dear friend to me from a distance. Usually late at night, after 11pm, Mel & I would share our lives & our very alike sense of humours. I cherish those late nights, every night, when we shared a space that Im so grateful ...for. Sonny was regularly part of the conversation, usually with laughter. Relaxed, loving laughter. Sonny I just cant believe it! Sonny youve been so vital for me! A husband of Mel, who Ive come to think about, usually with humour. A composer. A composer of music that isnt matched anywhere else. Sonny, youve been one of my go-tos for kids who need something to inspire them. Your book of fairies - such a loving, mischievous, funny, delightful book of music that has inspired every little girl Ive shared it with! A different sound. A different feel. I SO want to learn some of your advanced music! You Dirty Rat & Gangster pieces, the Theme & Variations based on Chopsticks...so many pieces are on my list! I even want to learn your complete book of Fairies. Youve been that composer for me. Ive had you making my kids dance on the piano stool, mate! Youve challenged me rhythmically. A lot. I remember you responding to a question of mine with a message to just chill. Relax. Funny that, because it worked! Youve extended me in a way that Im so grateful for. Youve also given my students an experience. Weve laughed at every lesson with your music Sonny. Thank you. Youve given us the gift of the true meaning or purpose of music. Fun music that is alive. I cant imagine how it would be for you to be leaving Mel & those beautiful girls of yours Sonny! Theres been shock & a heaviness inside me this afternoon since I started to read this post at exactly 2.28pm before my first student arrived at 2.30pm. Her happy hello interrupted the second paragraph. With an inner gasp, I couldnt close the screen on my phone as I ran to the door... I feel sick for you. I just cant comprehend your loss...

07.01.2022 Love these memories Renee

06.01.2022 Im aware of the stuck-up, elitist commentary about the work of Andr Rieu. Andre has popularised the true purpose & existence of music - to touch & be touched. The full realm of emotions can, & should, be allowed to occur with music & performance. A video from an Andre Rieu concert in Sydney featured at my fathers funeral. It had our overflowing group both smiling & crying at the same time. It was a very moving experience. When I take mum to an Andre Rieu performance (or his beautiful soprano Mirusia) she never fails to smile & laugh while having tears drip down off her face for the entire performance. That is the purpose of music...

06.01.2022 A smile moment...

05.01.2022 This game is winging its way to Caroline Springs Victoria today. I use it for kids under 6yo from Lesson 1. So far its Lachy 4, me 0.

05.01.2022 The trailblazing abbess, doctor, philosopher, and composer Hildegard von Bingen died on this day in 1179. Hildegard wrote some of the most enduring musical works of the medieval period. She is pictured here having a vision, because thats exactly what it looks like.

05.01.2022 Ive seen the Grigoryan Brothers live. They really are pretty special. This is beautiful.

04.01.2022 This is James playing a finger exercise from Book 2. This book contains many different technical exercises, which are linked with the piece that follows and prepare the student to play that piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch

03.01.2022 Extremely happy to have 2 platforms for online teaching now. Today Rock Out Loud LIVE failed with audio so Zoom was a great Plan B. Keep both ongoing with student links so you can change over quickly during a lesson. Today we lost about 2 minutes changing over.

02.01.2022 Tonight Ive finished creating a Music category in my face masks online store called Masks of Distinction. Its a work in progress however I now have 1 design uploaded for sale. That is the popular red, black & white fabric with piano keys, music notes on a stave & musical instruments. Its a border quilting fabric, 100% cotton, so it basically gives me 2 different designs from the 1 fabric if I fussy cut it. Please share & please also let me know if there are online store issues since it hasnt been tested with a customer yet.

01.01.2022 Thinking about Sonny Chua today

01.01.2022 Im extremely fussy about videos like this. I cant stand seeing young children displayed playing mediocre performances like trained monkeys especially when theyre playing something that doesnt suit their hand & temperament. However I appreciate this childs musical performance.
