I already have 2 clients in #AirlieBeach that I work with remotely and am looking at travelling to QLD in the new year to run events up there, so if you know anyone that I can assist, please let them know about this grant ASAP as Round 2 is now open and closes at 5pm on 21 November 2017. Please read the link below for eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Some familiar faces from last weeks Social Media Course and some lovely new faces that Id not had the pleasure of meeting until today. 22.01.2022 #SundayShoutOut Every Sunday I want to do a shout out for a client past or present who Ive had the joy of working with. This week its a shout out to Tracey Crocker and the team at award winning local business Crockers Paint and Wallpaper Miranda/Sylvania who have had their store (the 4th baby) in #Engadine for the past 5 years and have helped so many locals over that time. ... They will still be servicing all their customers through their main store in Box Road at Miranda. We will miss having you at Engadine and best of luck for the upcoming business awards!

21.01.2022 Monday Must Knows: Its imperative that you keep brand consistent, especially the font and the colours you use in your marketing material. HOPEFULLY, the graphic designer you used to design your logo gave you the hex value and/or the RGB code for the colours in your logo. If they didnt here is a great, easy solution! The Image Color Picker website lets you upload any image (including but not limited to your logo) that you are trying to match the colours of. You then click o...n the part of the image you want to match and hey presto, it gives you the relevant codes that you can then use in Canva or the likes to do your designs so they all look consistent. This tool is also great when you are designing marketing material and trying to incorporate someone elses branding into the collateral. Quick and easy, this website a must know! #MondayMustKnows #Branding #WeLoveFreeTools

Was a pleasure spending the day with you all - look forward to catching up again soon :) #EllaraBCCT #FacebookTraining #SupportLocal #SocialMediaTraining #MarketingTips

20.01.2022 Monday Must-Knows: You were trying to get more likes for your page, engagement for your posts or event responses, so you went down the path of Facebook Advertising, only to get a warning from #Facebook that your Ad may not run at all or may run with a much lower reach because of the image to text ratio. Really? What the heck? According to Facebook standards, the images in your ads cannot exceed an image to text ratio of 20% (they amend this rule every now and again) this... includes logos, slogans, watermarks, and any other text that may be on your image. Facebook prefers ad images with little or no text, because images with a lot of text may create a lower-quality experience for the people youre are advertising to on Facebook. This means that even before you decide to advertise anything on your page, you need to think about the image you are going to use in whatever it is you are going to promote. If you are unsure if you are using too much text, you can use the Facebook Text Overlay tool where you upload the image you are going to use and Facebook will rate it for you. Get the green tick and you are good to go! You can find the Text Overlay Tool at https://www.facebook.com/ads/tools/text_overlay And if you are still using the boost post button, please have a read of last weeks post on how to do Facebook Ads the right way :) #SocialMedia #FacebookForBusines #MondayMustKnows #EllaraBCCT

20.01.2022 The joy you get when you start working with a new client and see these sorts of results in just a few weeks!!! Page Admins, if you are not checking your Facebook insights regularly, (and not just the overview section), how do you know if your efforts are working or not? #FacebookForBusiness #Winning

20.01.2022 These sure are different times. This is how school lunch orders are happening at our place at the moment... #NeedToLaugh

19.01.2022 It's a crazy time and the time we need to help each other more than ever, so for those that may be new to the Work From Home scenario, here are some tips that I hope may help. DO - Set up a work station for yourself that is as ergonomically sound as you can make it. You don't need a bad back or sore neck to add to your stress levels. I use my dining table as my seated desk and my kitchen island (or ironing table) as my standing desk. DO - Set a schedule and alarms. Having wo...rked from home on and off for years it is pretty much my norm but I still find days where I look up and realise it's 4pm and I haven't given myself a break or eaten. Give yourself regular breaks and use alarms to remind you when it's time for a break and a time to get back to work. DO - Utilise the extra hours each day you have each day now that you don't have to commute. Use the time to exercise, read (for pleasure) or something else that makes you smile. I have started cooking more slow-cooked, bulk type meals that I can give to family members so I start cooking in the morning when I would normally be on the train and can keep an eye on it during the day. DO - Try and keep your sense of humour - why else would I post this ridiculously unflattering photo of myself other than to possibly give you a giggle. DO - "Catch up" with others in the same boat (online) for coffee or lunch etc. It's great to chat to someone other than yourself and you can perk each other's spirits up. Use Facetime, Google Hangouts, Zoom, WebEx or whatever works best for you and your lunch buddy. DO - Get dressed for work. Staying in your PJ’s is not conducive to getting into work mode. Having said that, I do admit to some bra optional days when I am at home One of my clients gets dressed for work and then leaves his house and comes back in after his 5 minute walk around the block commute as this is what he needs to get his head into work-mode. DON'T- Be afraid to ask for help. You didn't learn to drive on the first day you tried it so why should working at home be any different. My door is always (virtually) open so hit me up If I can help you. I was thinking of running some no-cost "Lunch, Learn and Laugh" webinars in the upcoming weeks where I can share some social media tips for business with you but just as importantly, stay connected and learn some new skills in what could be quieter times for those who have had to close their bricks and mortar stores. Let me know if you are keen Stay safe, be well and be kind to others. #WFH #SmallBiz #Tips

19.01.2022 Yesterday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced it is also putting out a $10,000 grant for small business who have been affected by covid-19. Click on the link below to see if your business is eligible. You should be able to apply for this grant after 17 April 2020. #SmallBiz #BusinessGrant

19.01.2022 Yesterday, I found myself finishing a contract role prematurely, something I have not ever experienced before in my 30 or so years of working. This morning as I sat on my balcony able to enjoy my "non-work day ritual, something caught my eye...a beautiful heart shaped rainbow made by the morning sun. Moments later I got a text message and smiling face photo from a (self proclaimed crazy cat lady) work colleague I had to say goodbye to yesterday thanking me for the #CrankyC...at badge I had left on her desk as a thank you and farewell gift for her. Both of these moments made my heart warm and put a huge smile on my face. My thought for today, be the rainbow and not the cranky cat unless of course the cranky cat is a gift that you know someone will get great joy from! #CrazyCatLady #Rainbows #Thankful

19.01.2022 Those that know me know I am a footy tragic so tonights a big night in our household. My heart says Blues for the win, my head is a little worried about the QLD crowd and their impact on the game. Whos your pick to win game one of #StateOfOrigin tonight? #GoTheBlues

18.01.2022 One thing I have learned over my many years of consulting & training is just how many businesses (both big and small) are too busy running their business so neglect or dont have the time to market it correctly, especially online. For that reason, I am offering complimentary mini-audits of your current digital marketing. You can choose either a mini web audit and audit of one social media channel or two social media channels (no website). Ill also include a mini-audit of yo...ur Google My Business listing (and explain why you want to get that one right!). From the audit, youll get emailed a to-do list of the most important things that could be improved, which you can then act on yourself :) Or, if you still dont have the time or knowledge to do it yourself, I am happy to chat about how I can assist you either in a 1:1 or group training situation. Knowledge is Power - if you dont know what you dont know, how are you going to fix it? Either put the link to your website/chosen social media channel/s below (theres one shout out for your business - yeah free marketing!) or if youre not sure how to do that, you can email the details to me at [email protected] * Because of the expected demand, I am initially offering this to my page fans, past workshop attendees and #SutherlandShire Businesses only. #SupportLocal #DigitalMarketing #EllaraBCCT

18.01.2022 Why do anything in business if you cant measure its success (or where you can improve). Thank you to all my course attendees who take the time to leave feedback, it is greatly appreciated :)

17.01.2022 Monday Must Knows: We see them all day, every day...#Facebook competitions by businesses where they put up a post that you have to tag a friend to enter or "share the post to win. Did you know both those actions are against Facebooks terms and conditions for running a promotion? It could only take a few competitors (or others that may not like your business) to report your posts to Facebook for you to end up with a warning, or worse still, Facebook closing down your page ...that you have spent so much time and effort growing! Please make sure you adhere to Facebooks terms and conditions, including an acknowledgment that your contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered or associated with Facebook. You might also like to consider using some of the great competition apps available to run your next contest to assist you in keeping compliant. #DoFacebookRight #SocialMediaTips #EllaraBCCT

17.01.2022 Off to the Gourmet Outdoor Kitchen night markets shortly because lets face it, no one likes to cook on a Friday night! Have a great weekend one and all. #TGIF #Engadine #GetInMyTummy

16.01.2022 #MustKnowMondays Pull on your ugg boots and turn the heater on - just kidding even know it is true! The real must know Mondays is keeping your Google My Business listing up to date, including open/closed hours on public holidays including the upcoming Queens Birthday Long weekend.... Tip 1: Make sure you monitor the Gmail account associated with your Google My Business account - your reminders will be emailed there. Tip 2: Theres nothing worse than your customers/clients Googling you and thinking you are open only to drive there and find you are closed. Tip 3: Add photos/videos/posts to your Google My Business listing as often as possible. Google will always put their products at the top of a search so stay in front of your competitors by updating your listing regularly. Stay warm people!

15.01.2022 "Regramming" content on #Instagram can be a valuable way to showcase your business and thank your audience. Its important, however, to take the necessary steps to protect yourself and your content on Instagram. Following the steps listed in this article will help ensure you avoid any legal issues when using other peoples content on your Instagram account. Thanks Social Media Examiner for the great article. #SocialMediaExaminer #InstaTips #DoingInstaRight

15.01.2022 I see 3 of these 4 errors so often its scary! I would replace their #2 reason with "I have a young person in my office so Ill just get them to do our social media". Whilst they know how to use the social media platform, do they know marketing? #SocialMedia #SmallBusiness #FacebookForBusiness

14.01.2022 While updating my LinkedIn profile yesterday, I tried to work out how many people I would have trained since my first "official" training role with Ansett Airlines way back in 1997. My best guestimate was over 6000. I so wish I had some of the olden day photos! Here are some of the more recent people I have been privileged enough to train over the past 22 years. Happy weekend all. #FlashBackFriday #DamnIAmOld

13.01.2022 From today, #Twitter has increased its character limit from 140 characters to 280 characters. I occasionally go over the 140 characters but love that Twitter is short, sharp and to the point. That said, its the #SocialMedia platform I use the least for business. Is your business on Twitter? Are you happy to have more room to share your messages? Share your handle with me below. MIne is @LaraKilborn #140Versus280

13.01.2022 Monday Must-Knows: No-one likes a website that takes too long to load - in fact, we are so impatient these days that a fast load time is critical to keeping your web visitors there and engaging with the products and services you can offer. One extremely common things that slow down your website is a large volume of unoptimised images. Uploading larger sized images and then scaling them down can unnecessarily increase the size of your web page - causing your website to load... slowly. Image format is another important factor to consider. For example, JPEG images are much smaller in size compared to other image formats like PNG or GIF. If youve got large image files that you want to compress, theres a great tool I use called Tiny PNG (https://tinypng.com/). There are both free and paid versions, depending on your needs. The example below shows the results of a saving of a huge 30MB when compressing just 14 images. How many images do you have on your website and what are they doing to your site speed? #MustKnowMondays #WebSpeed #TinyPNG

12.01.2022 I am so lucky that in my business I get to work with some amazing clients. I do it because I love sharing in their successes. While definitely not expected, a client gift of a house clean was a unique and thoughtful "thanks for all you do for us" gift for this busy single mum!! Thank you Greater Glass, love that we are still working together all these years later. #BestClients #TheLittleThingsThatMakeYouSmile

11.01.2022 #Facebook profile pics are changing! Over the next several weeks, Facebook is changing the shape of your profile picture from its current square shape to a circular shape. What does that mean for you? It means that for everyone that has done the right thing in the past by getting a version of your logo that fits nicely into a square, that it may no longer fit right...grrrrrrrr. My guess would be that they are making the change to be the same as Instagram, so those that u...se Facebook Ads on Instagram will have the same shaped profile picture on both platforms (but thats just my theory). Make sure you use the preview when you get the notification from Facebook about the upcoming changes so you can see if you need to make any changes before they roll this change out. #NotHappyJan #EllaraBCCT

10.01.2022 Monday Must Knows: If youve got a Facebook page and an Instagram account for your business and youre time poor, the temptation is there to use the auto-post to Facebook when you add your Instagram post and "ta-da" both your Facebook and Instagram have a new post done. Here are the top 3 reasons I am strongly against using this strategy:... 1. If I follow your business on #Facebook and #Instagram and I am not online either at or near the time you post (x 2), youve missed the chance for me to see either of your posts. 2. Any Instagram Tags of other accounts you may have added to your Instagram post dont work on Facebook. On the flip side of that, you should be adding Facebook page tags to your Facebook posts - make it easy for people to visit the pages you are tagging. 3. We use more hashtags on Insta posts than we do on Facebook posts - talk the language of your target audience. That and your Insta specific hashtags dont make sense on Facebook (see below example with Instastyle showing on a Facebook post). Yes, I 100% agree that you can use the same image on both platforms with similar messaging, but do them at separate times with a relevant amount of #hashtags to the platform you are posting on and schedule the Facebook post for the time most of your page fans are online. #MondayMustKnows #FacebookMarketing #InstaMarketing #EllaraBCCT

10.01.2022 I was working from home today finalising a training proposal for a corporate client when I realised I had left my phone charger in the car so ducked downstairs to get it. Walking up our street was a lovely, elderly lady with her shopping trolley & handbag who stopped every 5 seconds or so to rub her hip and back, I asked her if she would like a lift to the shops and she politely declined, telling me she was going to the doctors. It took a few tries but after I assured her tha...t her trolley could also come for the ride, she finally let me drive her to her doctors appointment. When I helped her out of the car she gave me the biggest hug and a kiss on the cheek. Thank you Maria for allowing me to give you a lift, you have absolutely made my day! Because I have a severe case of the warm and fuzzies after meeting Maria, I would like to gift a local NFP with a complimentary Online Marketing Audit where I will look at their website/social media platforms and give them some tips on how they might improve their online presence. If you are part of or know a deserving sporting club, charity or other NFP organisation who could do with a hand, please nominate them below. #ThankYouMaria #FeelGoodFriday

09.01.2022 Today I had the pleasure of training members of the Sutherland Shire Preschool Alliance on #SocialMedia for Business and #Facebook for Business. We had a big day of training, held at Sporties at Kareela Golf Club. Well done ladies, I know the to do lists might be long but as we said today, "How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time!" It was lovely to meet you all and I am looking forward to catching up at our next training course :) Pictured (left to right):... 09.01.2022 #MondayMustKnows an oldie but a goodie and still very relevant.

07.01.2022 So yesterday, I should have been running a face-to-face #Facebook for your #Business workshop that was booked ages ago for 8 lovely self-employed ladies who run their own Postie Fashions businesses. One day before, the club where we were going to hold the course (practising social distancing of course!) was closed so we moved to plan B, online training! Congratulations to these lovely ladies, most of whom had never done online training like this before. We spent a great 3 hou...rs "together", learning, laughing, trying to keep each other sane and doing our best "Brady Bunch impersonation". While my actual door might be closed while I work from home and you do too, I am always here for you ladies and look forward to seeing your new and improved Facebook skills. As a side note, for any of my female friends and acquaintances, check out the pages below if you need some #Fashion retail therapy without leaving home I can vouch first hand on the quality and range. 06.01.2022 New cash flow assistance measures announced for #SmallBusiness. Make sure you get your facts straight from Government sources and lets all get through this together

06.01.2022 With so many of us using #Zoom whilst working remotely or even to catch up with friends, this article has some good tips to saying safer online whilst using zoom (and also dispels the rumour about #HouseParty).

06.01.2022 I taught my last class for the year at City East Community College today (Facebook advertising). Having taught at this college for a few years now, its amazing what a diverse range of business owners you get to teach! Today I had a gentleman that owns three childcare centres , a lady that owns a timber company with her husband, a swimming teacher and an event manger that hand crafts her own props for events. I love hearing their stories and getting to know these people and the businesses that they run. Blessed to meet so many amazing small business owners!

05.01.2022 With self-isolation here to stay, I am going to launch my complimentary "Lunch, Learn and Laugh" series where we can all jump online together for 30-45 minutes, I can share some tips on #SocialMedia with you and we can all escape homeschooling for a while and have a much-needed giggle My thoughts were that I would offer this twice a week (perhaps Tuesdays and Thursdays?) from 12.15 - 1pm but this is where I need your feedback, please. Do you have a day or time preference? A...re there any particular topics you are interested in? Some of the ideas I had are: * Claiming and updating your Google My Business Listings * Top Does and Don't for #Facebook * Canva - what is it and how do I use it? * Facebook Insights - what do they mean and how do I * No-cost and low-cost marketing tools If this goes well I think we also need #FridayArvo virtual drinks to celebrate keeping on keeping on! Interested in your thoughts and feedback please and if you know anyone else that might be keen to join us, feel free to share it with them. #OnlineLearning #SmallBiz #KeepingSane #TogetherApart

04.01.2022 After a long absence (been off in the corporate world for an extended period), I finally have some time to dedicate to my business again. Whilst the current environment is very stressful for most of us, its important to band together, especially small business owners helping others in the same boat. If you havent seen it already, this link has all the information you need in regards to Government relief and assistance currently available to small businesses courtesy of bus...iness.gov.au Stay strong everyone and yell if there is anything I can do to help you. #SmallBiz #Assistance

02.01.2022 Please dont fall for the latest scam/hoax doing the rounds virally on socIal media where you can log in and see whos "secretly following" your Facebook profile. Ive already seen it a couple of times today and these things seem to spread like wild If you are ever concerned about your privacy on #Facebook, firstly google the wording of the post and you will probably find reputable sources reporting it as a scam. You can also go straight to the help section of Facebook an...d search there or report posts you think could be dodgy. As a side note, do use this as a reminder to check your profiles privacy settings. WAAAAAY back when, Facebook had the default privacy setting on a new account as public so check yours and unless you want the world to see everything, change it to a level you are happy with such as friends only. #StaySafeOnline

02.01.2022 Where did that 12 months go? Love that I am still training local business people on all things #SocialMedia. 02.01.2022 Big changes are coming to Facebook Groups! If you are the administrator of an existing group or looking to create a new group, take a read of the update below which is straight from the horses mouth. In short, 13 current group types are being retired (Close Friends, Club, Events and Plans, Family, Parents, Project, School or Class, Support, Team and Custom just to name a few) and 3 new group types will be coming in their place. As usual with #Facebook these new changes will be rolled out gradually so have a read before they come into play. #Facebook #SocialMedia #FacebookGroups #Updates #NiceToBeBack

02.01.2022 Monday Must Knows: #Facebook made an announcement late last year (see link below for full announcement), that come the new year, they will begin demoting individual posts from people and Pages that use engagement bait. For those that continually use this tactic, your page will also be demoted! What is engagement bait you might ask? You have (up until now) probably seen this type of post in your newsfeed regularly and if you are anything like me, you scroll past quickly as the...y have that spammy feeling about them. They are the posts that say "tag a friend who....." or "like if you agree with...." or "share with 10 friends to win....". Basically, theyre those kinds of desperate feeling posts where the page is almost begging you to interact with them. Personally, I am glad Facebook will be demoting pages that use this kind of tactics. To me (and to Facebook as well it seems) theyre not very authentic and are purely posted to get numbers up. I prefer to add content that people actually want to know about, or want to share with others (authentically without being TOLD to) or can learn from but thats just me. Im not saying you cant throw in a Friday Funny or a Throw Back Thursday type post every now and again, just keep them real and relevant and dont beg your followers to comment/like/share your posts. If they like and value them, they will do it naturally :)

01.01.2022 Who has access to your Facebook profile after you pass? With a 5-week hospitalisation and then the way too early passing of a much-loved family member earlier this week, posting here has been the last of my priorities... For my daughter and for myself, we are now trying to get back to some sort of "normality". What it did remind me is how many people do not know that Legacy/Memorialisation settings on your Facebook profile even exist, let alone how to access them. Think of h...ow many photos and memories you have on your profile and what they could mean to those closest to you after you have gone. If you would like someone to have access to your account after you pass, click on the settings tab (on PC) or the three stacked dashes in the bottom right corner and click "settings and privacy" and "account settings" if you are on your phone/iPad. Scroll down to "Your Facebook Information" and choose "Account ownership and control" and then "Memorialisation settings" to give access to your the person/s of your choice. If you would like your account closed after your passing, there is also that choice. Either way, it will take you less than 2 minutes to make your choice, so do it now before it becomes something else you will "get to". Hold your loved ones close and give them an extra hug xx

01.01.2022 Its a crazy time and the time we need to help each other more than ever, so for those that may be new to the Work From Home scenario, here are some tips that I hope may help.
