24.01.2022 Elleker Brigade helped a local property owner today by burning a couple of piles of dry branches, A couple of hours work by the brigade reduces the risk of private burns getting out of control. Thanks goes out to Wayne, Bryce, John and David for giving up their time today. Thank you Judy for the generous donation. It will be put to good use.

23.01.2022 Download your 2020-2021 Fire Management Notice Managing the risk of bushfire is a shared responsibility: local government, state government agencies and the... community all need to do their part. The website listed below contains important information on what you need to do to ensure your property is as well prepared as possible for the threat of bushfire. These mitigation measures are required by law and penalties of up to $5,000 may be issued if you don't take the necessary steps to prepare your property. All fire mitigation measures must be in place for the following periods: NORTH EAST SECTOR 1 October 2020 to 30 April 2021 SOUTH WEST SECTOR 1 November 2020 to 14 May 2021 For further information or to download the Fire Management Notice head to https://www.albany.wa.gov.au///fire-management-notice.aspx

21.01.2022 Here’s the other lucky winner of the Elleker Bush Fire Brigade fund raiser hampers a young lad by the name of Tom Wright. After dropping the hamper to his dad on Monday (Tom was at school) his Dad told me Tom said to him We should get a ticket for the raffle it’s a good cause so dad handed over $10 when Tom returned dad asked for his change Tom said I bought $10 of tickets smashing work Tom you a little legend. I hope you gave Mum the champagne His dad also said that He was really happy to help the brigade ("That's a good cause.") He particularly loves his fire extinguisher and we'll be insisting that the towels get a good workout.

18.01.2022 Elleker brigade conducted a hazard reduction burn this evening and we had perfect weather for it. Great to have newish members out on the ground with more experienced members. Great job done by all.

18.01.2022 Containers for Change on Stead Road in Albany are receiving recyclable plastic/glass bottles and aluminium cans with 10c deposit labels. You can drop off small or large amounts at their premises in Stead Road Albany and donate the proceeds to help us in our fundraising efforts. Just inform them they are for Elleker Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and the friendly staff will do the rest. 16.01.2022 Elleker and South Coast Brigades assisting Highway with a hazard reduction burn in Warrenup. Two of our younger members Sjaan and Bryce had their first experience at this and they acredited themselves very well. Special thanks goes to Ben Braun from Highway for buying us pizzas. Nice gesture and appreciated by all.

16.01.2022 Western Power are getting behind the Volunteer Bushfire Brigades and supporting them in obtaining items that will make our jobs much safer for all members of the brigades. The items they sponsor are not provided by Local Government and /or DFES, so if we require them we have to fundraise or receive sponsorship/donations from other sources. It is really appreciated by Elleker Volunteer Bushfire Brigade for this assistance and you can be assured that any donations given to us are used directly by the brigade and no admin fees are deducted from them. Thanking you once again.

15.01.2022 Thank you goes out to Neville's Hardware ( a family owned and local business ) for donating a Haymes Paint ( Australian paint manufacturer ) step ladder to Elleker Brigade. This item will mean our members no longer have to stand on bullbars to change our fire signs. Great to get support from local and Australian owned businesses and we encourage you get behind and support them.

14.01.2022 That time of the year for these fellas to pop up and say hi. Be wary when burning off piles of debris , or conducting hazard reduction burns.

14.01.2022 We all want to Keep Australia Beautiful, no butts about it! Discarded cigarettes are not only the most littered item in Australia, they are also a major caus...e of bushfires each year Let's tidy up our act and bin our butts! You can report people littering cigarette butts through the Litter Reporter Program - https://bit.ly/3h7Ep5b #KABWeek2020

13.01.2022 Members from Redmond, Highway, Elleker, Torbay and South Coast brigades got together this past Saturday for an inter-brigade training event. Big thanks go to Hans and Tash (Highway), Rohan (South Coast) Stretch (King River) and Roy (Elleker) for helping out as trainers. It's great to see experienced members so willing to train up and coming members. Teams practiced setting up water points using hydrants and fast fill pumps, creating fire lines using rake hoes and foam branches, and were introduced to the Incident Control Van. The skills learned at the different stations were put to good use in a 45minute scenario. Appliances on three sectors did a great job establishing fire lines, putting out the imaginary fire, responding to a Red Flag warning and chasing down a hop-over. Thanks to all who attended. It was a great afternoon!

13.01.2022 Being prepared before it all goes shaped could save you a lot of time, money, or even your life. There are easy tasks that can be done throughout the year to ...better prepare you and your family for emergencies. With warmer weather already here, unfortunately bushfires are not far away. Print this simple checklist for your fridge and set aside some weekend time to ready your home and your family for an emergency.
