25.01.2022 These past few weeks have been eventful at the college, especially for our Year 10 Outdoor Recreation students. After being put through their paces in the classroom learning the theory behind Kayaking, our students ventured out to flat waters of Middle Swan Reserve to put their theory to practice. Students learned all the necessary strokes, played a number of fun games on the water, stood up on their kayaks and even learned how to rescue one another when capsized! All students performed extremely well and continue to display an elite standard as part of one the colleges much loved programs.
25.01.2022 This week we were fortunate enough to have Victorian Engineer of the Year video conference with our Year 7 and 8 STEM students to talk a bit about her experiences as an engineer. Emma Miller-Olsen has been working in the industry for 20 years and spoke to the students about a range of topics, from what led her to pursue a career in Engineering, to some of the most important parts of studying while at school and the importance of women in STEM subjects. Emma said the most important lesson she learned at school was not to be afraid to fail. We were honoured that Emma gave up her valuable time to speak with us, and the students loved getting the opportunity to ask her all sorts of interesting questions.
24.01.2022 Earlier this week our Year 7 and 8 students competed in the Perth Northern Rugby League Carnival. Out of six teams, we came 2nd in the West Aus competition. Big congratulations to Year 7 students, Marcus Cooper and Aye De Taw who were both selected for State School trials, as were Year 8 students Matthew Sohun, Malakai Letafuga and Luka Konui. A special mention must got to Matthew Sohun for receiving Player of the Tournament even though Matthew has never played Rugby League ...before! Matthew is usually a soccer star but maybe he might be swayed after this achievement! Not only were our students successful, Mr McArdle was asked to form part of the selection panel for the School State trials. A great day all round.
24.01.2022 In Week 8, our Year 11 and 12 ATAR Geography students and some of our Year 7 students met up with the Year 12 Geography students from Mt Barker Community College. The Mt Barker students interviewed our students on the features that make Ellenbrook liveable. Our students were also asked to explain what they liked best about living here. They quickly learned that country living was very different to life in the city, which was very insightful for both groups. Overall, our students thoroughly enjoyed the incursion and made some new friends. Thank you to Mt Barker Community College for coming along to speak with our students.
24.01.2022 We are excited to announce that two of our Year 12 ATAR Design students were accepted into exhibitions this year. Congratulations to Jessica Youl who was accepted into the META exhibition and to Clarissa Taladro who was accepted into the Young Originals Exhibition. Jessica Youl describes her design Im not ok, but its ok... My design communicates the intended message of Beyond Blue. The confronting statistics on Australian mental health meet the seriousness of the model. It is a call to action as it exposes the harsh facts on mental health and the intimidating stare of the model directly at the audience is confronting. As mental health can be referred to as quite dark, the overall theme of the poster is gloomy and depressing to expose this further. Clarissa Taladro talks about her design #metoo. The idea behind this design was to encourage women to speak out against sexual harassment by using shock tactics (through use of statistics) and a highly symbolic image to represent what it is to be a woman. The image was photographed, traced and then displaced to disrupt the male gaze used in traditional magazine covers. The cutting of the main image also evokes an emotional response as the slicing up of the images treats the subjects as objects, much like our male-dominated society has treated women. The typography is eye-catching and bold to promote a call to action for women everywhere to reach out and speak up about their experiences. Gallery Central

20.01.2022 Last week, we celebrated HASS Week, a week intended to stimulate and challenge students with activities that engage all year groups. To celebrate, one of the many activities our HASS staff took on was to provide a tasting of different sausages. On the tasting plate were emu, crocodile, buffalo and kangaroo sausages. The sausages were spiced up with native herbs and fruits to add some additional zing to the flavour. The sausages were expertly cooked by our sausage extraordinaire, Mr Brown. Students sampled various native foods and were keen to have second helpings. The bbq was a resounding success with 10 kilograms of sausages eaten in bite size pieces within 15 minutes!

Here at Ellenbrook Secondary College we are celebrating NAIDOC Week throughout W...eek 7. Ellenbrook Secondary College is on Whadjuk Noongar country. One of our many events includes creating a sand design for our future Yarning Circle. Students have been working hard to perfect their experiments for several weeks, including school holidays, under the supervision of both parents and teachers. We were delighted to welcome guest judges Dr. Wen Chen a member of the College Board, who judged the Engineering ...Award, and Alisha Hodgetts, a Business Manager in the local community to judge the Community Award. The Science Fair is closing tomorrow and judging is still ongoing for some awards. These awards will be presented at later date. Well done to all our lower school students for another successful Science Fair, and to Mr Hodgetts for overseeing the event.
