16.01.2022 Elluminate Family Day Care would like to say a huge thank you to the families that nominated me for the 2017 National Family Day Care Educator of the Year Awards. It is a huge honour to be nominated again this year. It is a privilege to be entrusted with the opportunity to provide early education and care for young children and I love being in a position to be part of their early development. I am passionate about helping facilitate their learning and development, and I take great pride in watching each child's achievements - mastering new skills, meeting new developmental milestones, making new friends, taking on a new challenge, engaging with and exploring the world around them, each child I connect with imparts something into my life and teaches me something new, and it is my hope that I do the same for them.

09.01.2022 This is an important read for parents of young children. As with everything in our society nowadays, there is a push and rush to grow and achieve at faster rate, and can even be seen in things like a push to have children walk sooner rather than spend time crawling. Being able to cross the midline is extremely important for development and affects so many things in life, and I have seen quite a few children who struggle with this ability and all it impacts. Just one way a chi...ld develops this is by spending substantial time crawling (proper hands and knees crawling), which requires crossing the midline to coordinate corresponding hand and leg movements. This article has a good over view of how important the ability to cross the midline is, and what to look for in your child. (Please note - I do not endorse the video subscription, just the information article). http://ilslearningcorner.com/2016-01-crossing-the-midline-/ See more

08.01.2022 Looking for something to do with your child that encourages physical activity and a love of sport, motor skill development, socialisation and incorporates the fundamental elements needed for school readiness? Ready Steady Go Kids is a multi-sport program for 1.5-6 year olds designed by a paediatric physiotherapist and occupational therapist. It is a great program that kids love, and as an educator, watching their skills and confidence develop throughout the term from partici...pating in this program is awesome. There are classes at Merewether, Rutherford, Salt Ash, Singleton and Wallsend which you can book in for a FREE trial at www.readysteadygokids.com.au and there is also the option to have this program come to your child's care service as an incursion.

08.01.2022 What is Family Day Care? Family Day Care is home-based, small group, early education and care, provided by a self-employed, professional early childhood educ...ator. Family Day Care has strict educator to child ratios of 1 to 7 children under 13 years of age (older children can still attend), with a limit of 4 under school aged children at any given time. An educators own children are included in these ratios (unless their partner, or another approved adult is on site and providing sole care for those children). A child attending Family Day Care receives a lot of one-on-one attention from their educator, because of the small ratios. Our clients families often becomes part of our family and often stay friends for many years to come. Research shows that children benefit from consistency of adults in their lives. Family Day Care is regulated, registered and approved care, and in order to provide child care rebates, and educator must be registered with a licensed Family Day Care Scheme. The Scheme is legally required to monitor compliance and impose regulatory requirements for all edcuators registered with them. This includes ensuring property maintenance and safety is compliant with national regulations at all times, an educators programming and planning is focused on child interests and development and applicable to the individual children in care, regular follow up to observe child developments whilst in care, menu's (where applicable) and healthy eating guidelines, attendance records and rebate payments are accurate and factual and maintaining accountability. Most schemes visit registered educators on a 4 - 6 week cycle, with unannounced spot checks in place. State regulatory authorities, child protection agencies, department of education, and ACECQA can also visit an educators home at any time, without notice for compliance and assessment checks. Family Day Care Educators undergo regular National Criminal History (police) Checks and Working With Children Checks (as do all adult members of the household and regular visitors). We legally must hold current First Aid Certification including, Asthma and Anaphylaxis management, Child Protection Training, and all must have a minimum of certificate III in early education and care (or be actively studying this). We must also have public liability insurance, and display a prescribed information document showing the days and hours we are approved to operate. Family Day Care Educators are self-employed small business owners - we pay our own taxes, we don't get sick pay or holiday pay, and we are obligated to keep all paperwork up to date inline with any other business. We pay our own insurance and we are responsible for maintaining workplace health and safety. We buy our own resources and activities for the programming we are legally required to adhere to under the Early Years Learning Framework. We don't have big unlimited budgets, or corporations to apply to for funding, and there are no grants or government assistance to help offset our costs. As small business owners, the money we earn stays within our community, most shop in local supermarkets and stores and arr important assets to the community. 07.01.2022 Senator Leyonhjelm's comments over the past few days, and, if you dig back further, past few years, not only belittle passionate early childhood professionals who put everything into their job, but also the children in early education and care. The future of Australia relies on these children. Most other western countries realise how crucial the early years are to all aspects of later life, and have implemented policies and support to facilitate the best possible start for th...eir children. Our politicians seem determined to remove financial support, reduce quality (by increasing paperwork and unnecessary micro-policies), and now promoting blatant disrespect for this vital sector. I would love to see some of them spend a day actually working in this sector, for the same hours, fulfilling all the same requirements we are required to do on a daily basis, for the same money (not politician wages!). Early childhood matters, and so do the educators! See more

07.01.2022 highlighting some of the many play based learning experiences for children at Elluminate Family Day Care. We have vacancies available now - message or visit www.elluminatefdc.com.au for further information.

04.01.2022 Children are quite capable, even from a very young age, and need to be given every opportunity available to do things for themselves (developmentally appropriate and with supervision to ensure safety of course) in order to strengthen their independence and self-worth. When adults do everything for children, not only do they take away learning opportunities for the child, but they also start to build up the child's belief that they can't do it, and eventually they stop wanting... to try. We need to build up and encourage children to try and keep trying, in simple small things and seemingly big things, because children who believe they CAN do things carries forward into adolescence and adulthood, setting strong foundations for determination to try new things, resilience to overcome challenges, and a confident ability to be self-reliant in life.
