It was a great game to watch with a great friendship now formed between our two clubs. Good luck for your season ahead and we look forward to seeing you again next year in P.A

18.01.2022 From the President (2/May/2020) Hi everybody, With the bleak and wet weather hitting Melbourne, it is only natural that our thoughts turn to playing rugby, and the remarkable rejuvenating properties of a roll in the Bridge St mud! For all us trying to cope with a sports-free lockdown, there is some good news on the horizon. Pending the decision of the State Government regarding the state of emergency that exists in Victoria until May 11th, Rugby Victoria, working with other p...arties and Rugby Australia, has developed a plan to deliver a rugby season this year, with early July targeted for the kick-off. I have attached the updated modelling for this to happen, where three options are presented, with a key factor being ground availability in October for finals, an issue being worked on through discussions between all sporting codes, councils and the State government If you have a look at the fine detail on the spreadsheet, you will see that there is a staged return to full contact. If given the green light on May 11th, Stage B would be initiated (no more than 10 per training group), and would operate over two 14 day cycles. If all goes well, we would then move to Stage C, where full-contact team training would be allowed. Concurrently, we will be working to develop our club policy around hygiene, an area that Rugby Vic is actively developing protocols for with the assistance of medical experts. My apologies for the detail and documentation we will provide a summary of information in due course and any updates as they come to hand. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Tim

13.01.2022 The familiar figure of Rob Maddalena leading the ground-marking crew at Bridge St can mean only one thing we will see rugby at Eltham Rugby Club in 2020! We now have the green light from Council to resume training in accordance with the guidelines provided by Rugby Victoria. At this stage, we will put in place a staged return to full club training; a key part of this will be the implementation of a strategy that addresses issues such as player hygiene, sanitisation of equip...ment, record-keeping of attendance and movement on and off the ground. Our test-bed will be the first senior squad training session Tuesday evening. One of the challenges is the current restriction of having only 10 players per half field i.e. only 20 players can train at any one time. As you can imagine, this will require some thought as to how we can accommodate all our teams under this structure. Graeme Medley and I will contact Junior and Pathway coaches to discuss how this might be achieved At this stage I have not heard back from Council about Winter Allocations and Susan St access. Please, we need a little patience so we can get this right. Given the visibility of our location, we cannot risk not doing things correctly (just think Adelaide Crows or any number of NRL players!). The return of rugby to Eltham for our 50th Anniversary season will make it all worthwhile. Tim Adams

10.01.2022 A message and update on the state of the season from our President: Hi everyone, By the time you read this, and I hope you do, Sylvia and I will have finished a period of 14 days self-quarantine following our return from an overseas trip although, given the restrictions in place, a state of semi-isolation will obviously continue for us as no doubt for many others (and hopefully for some skiers from Aspen). It is quite staggering to contemplate how much has changed since the ...Continue reading

09.01.2022 A message from our President regarding our yearly Christmas Tree sales: Hi everyone, ... With the easing of COVID restrictions, and after discussions with Council, we will be able to hold our major fundraiser the Eltham RUFC Christmas Tree Sales this year, over three weekends starting the weekend of the 28/29th November. After a season where we have had very little in the way of income, with the exception of some sponsor money, donations and grants, we need more than ever the income generated by this club fundraiser to ensure that we enter 2021 in a strong financial position. The club needs your help as volunteers to sell and deliver trees we have had a great response from our members in the past, resulting in record sales in recent years. We will have a COVID Safe plan in place, and plenty of scented hand sanitiser (with moisturiser) and gloves to protect delicate skin! Please, get on board and volunteer your time (and tree transporters!) to help the more who pitch in, the easier it will be for everyone. Please, contact your team managers, club secretary Tarwin Shiel, or me to let us know of your availability and how/when you can help out. Regards, Tim

06.01.2022 We have had several members contact us about rugby coming back with the new easing of restrictions. Here is an email from Nillumbik council that was sent to us in regards to the current status of sporting clubs in Nillumbik. When we know more we will update our amazing community as soon as possible. "Dear Sporting Community,... As you would be aware, restrictions in the State of Victoria have been eased, starting 13 May, 2020. What does this mean for your club? Council continues to monitor and follow the directions of the State Sporting Associations (SSAs) whom are the governing bodies of various sporting codes across Victoria. Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) has established an LGA Sport COVID-19 Working Group, which comprises of SRV representatives, Local Government representatives and representatives from affected State Sporting Associations. Until we have received direction from SRV and SSAs, the current restrictions will remain until alternative Council direction is given. Sport by sport decisions may be made, depending on plans put in place by SSAs , and Councils comfort that those guidelines can be adhered to in Council owned and managed facilities. Councils will need time to process these guidelines, and we ask for your patience while we make decisions. Many sports use Council owned and managed facilities, and different considerations will need to made for each sport. You should familiarise yourself with the State Governments State of Emergency Declarations & FAQs. You should also discuss your plans with your SSA, as there may be insurance implications, should you resume training, following permission from Council to use facilities. For the current sport and recreational activities restrictions: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/sport-cultural-and-recreational We appreciate this is an uncertain and fast moving situation, but we will continue to update you on changes as they occur. Kind Regards, leisure Nillumbik Shire Council"

05.01.2022 Only 10 trees left for the weekend! When they're gone that's it until next weekend, so make sure you get down quick! Remember we offer free local delivery!

05.01.2022 Unfortunately, based on advice from the health expert from Rugby Australia, Rugby Vic has decided to postpone the community rugby season across all age groups until May. As of yesterday all training sessions are suspended. Please bear in mind this isn't a cancellation of the season, and Rugby Vic won't be refunding registration fees based on the corona virus suspension as of yet. ... The "This Girl Can" event scheduled for next week has also unfortunately been cancelled. We at Eltham Rugby are very unhappy with this result, but completely understand and accept the need for these measures.

04.01.2022 This is the framework we've received from Rugby Vic about getting the season back up and running with some no-contact training. Please keep in mind that we have to get permission from Nillumbik Council before we can use the grounds first, and have been working hard coming up with our own hygiene protocols to ensure this.

04.01.2022 Any Nillumbik residents of Eltham Rugby are encouraged to have your say! Our council's direction has a huge impact on how our club moves forward.

04.01.2022 Our trees are selling fast! This is our last weekend for selling trees this year, get in quick to get first pick of our magnificent trees. We will be selling from 8:30am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday.... And as always we offer free local delivery!
