22.01.2022 In these uncertain times, we would like to assure you that Elysian Dental continues to practice as usual, providing excellence in your dental care requirements. However, we take the safety of our patients, our staff and their families very seriously. We follow all ADA guidelines for infection control, which includes minimising the risk of transmitting viruses including COVID-19. To ensure these measures are effective we have implemented the following policy: Patients cannot a...ttend Elysian Dental if they have: Left, or transited through any country in the last 14 days (they will be required to stay at home self isolated for 14 days) Been in close contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus in the last 14 days (they must isolate themselves for 14 days after the dates of last contact with the confirmed case) Experience flu like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, difficulty breathing or fever within the last 14 days Symptoms of the COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly. People with COVID-19 may experience: Fever Flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and fatigue Shortness of breath A person confirmed to be infected will likely be admitted to hospital. Should they require emergency dental treatment, they will be triaged and if necessary, treated by the hospital dentist or Maxillofacial surgeon. The provision of dental treatments necessitates the need for airborne transmission-based precautions, which cannot be safely provided in general dental practice due to the need for a negative pressure room. Should one of our patients suspected of infection or currently serving self-isolation contact us requesting emergency dental treatment, we will recommend that they contact either the Australian Government Department of Health Coronavirus health information line on 1800 020 080 or visit the Department of Health Website (www.health.gov.au) or their local state or territory health department for advice. We will continue to stay up to date with the most current information provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and the Department of Health. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact one of our staff members on 08 6396 2116.

20.01.2022 As you may be aware, the government will be easing restrictions on dental procedures. This means we can offer a wider range of treatment to our patients. As of Tuesday 28 April 2020 we will be taking bookings for examinations, fillings, root canal treatments, dentures, and simple extractions. We are still restricted in doing cleans, surgical procedures and implants but we are hoping to be able to perform these procedures soon. Of course we can and will continue to treat any emergency or urgent dental requirements. If you need to make a booking please call us or book online.

18.01.2022 Want to skip unnecessary trips to the dentist? Skip the sugary drinks! Soft drinks, slushies, sports drinks, energy drinks, fruit juice, flavoured milk and pre-made iced tea contain more sugar than you might think. Too much sugar can lead to weight gain and rot your teeth. Overall, refined sugar such as that found in the products mentioned is generally bad for you. So, for your teeth, your health and your finances, kick the sugar!

16.01.2022 At Elysian Dental we understand that we are living in uncertain times. We understand that people are beginning to struggle economically. So we would like you to know that it is safe to visit your dentist and, while we are not in a complete lock down, we are offering gap free exams and cleans including x-rays* (terms and conditions apply). While we are happy to offer this service, w...e must iterate that should you be unwell with cold or flu symptoms, have traveled overseas in the last 14 days, or have been in contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19, you will be unable to attend Elysian Dental until cleared of the virus. Call us on 08 6396 2116 or make a booking online. *T&Cs: Offer will run for four weeks from 18 March 2020 to 15 April 2020. Offer extends to all health funds with extras cover.

16.01.2022 The road to a winning smile... Due to illness, this gentleman lost most of his teeth. First, we created post and cores to rebuild some structure to bond the crowns to. ... After, the layered Emax crowns were made and inserted. Such a great result and a very happy and emotional patient. It makes all of the hard work worthwhile. #technedental

12.01.2022 FUN FACT: A Dentist Helped Invent Cotton Candy! Now were not too sure what Dr William Morrison was thinking. Maybe he was trying to drum up more business, but this is definitely not what dentists are suggesting when they tell you to floss. Yes, it was a dentist, Dr William Morrison who, with the help of a candy maker John C. Warton invented cotton candy aka "fairy floss" in 1897. It was originally packaged in wooden boxes which Messieurs Morrison and Warton sold for 25 cents... a box at carnivals. Now it is ubiquitously available in almost all supermarkets. Today, dentists would advise against this sugary treat, however if you partake, we suggest you do so in moderation and maintain good oral hygiene. Otherwise, fairy floss like all sugary foods may lead to cavities and trips to the dentist.

11.01.2022 We recently posted a deal for gap free exams, x-rays and cleans. Unfortunately, due to the current situation we have been restricted in the type of procedures we can do. This restriction includes cleans. Therefore, we are unable to honour this deal. Once we all pass through this ordeal, we will be able to offer the same service and will let you all know when that is possible. We are open for emergencies and some other procedures. So if you need us, please call us to book. In the meantime, stay safe, keep appropriate distances, and well all get through this.

11.01.2022 This is Jack and his family. Call us to make a booking or visit us online. P.S. Dr Burgess was going to dress up for Halloween this year, but we couldnt find a scary enough costume - shes already a dentist!

10.01.2022 Today is Shrove Tuesday, or more colloquially known as Pancake Tuesday. While we all agree that pancakes are delicious, the toppings we place on them leave a lot to be desired when it comes to the health of our teeth. That doesnt mean you have to eat your pancakes plain, tasting like a piece of cardboard. You can still enjoy sweet pancakes and look after your teeth! So lets look at the toppings we traditionally place on our pancakes. Lemon and sugar is the more traditional ...topping but the worse choice for our teeth. The high acidity of the lemon plus the sugar, present a two-pronged attack on our teeth through dental erosion and decay. To alleviate this attack, try chewing sugar-free chewing gum after your pancake to help protect your teeth while ensuring you can enjoy your Pancake Tuesday. Then there is the other toppings, maple or golden syrup? Maple syrup is more than two thirds sugar and sticks to our teeth long after eating it, providing a haven for bacteria growth which attack and decay our teeth. To provide some sort of protection, try having a glass of water to chase your pancakes to rinse the stickiness off your teeth. Also, make sure you wait an hour after eating your pancakes before brushing your teeth or you may be causing more harm than good.

07.01.2022 Not your average tools for a dentist nor the type of person you would expect or want to see at your appointment. But, did you know that in the early 1800s the job of dentist did not exist. Instead the job fell to blacksmiths and barbers to perform the majority of dental work. Thankfully we have progressed since then....

05.01.2022 Elysian Dental take the health of our patients and employees seriously. With the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV), it is timely to remind patients and our staff to take precautionary measures to protect against infections. These measures are just as effective for the common cold and influenza as well as 2019-nCoV and include: Washing your hands Covering your mouth while coughing and sneezing Minimising your contact with the public if you have flu like ...symptoms While WA is yet to have a confirmed case of 2019-nCoV there are 12 confirmed cases in Australia as of 3 February 2020; 4 in New South Wales, 4 in Victoria, 2 in South Australia, and 2 in Queensland. If you do have any of the following: fever, flue like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat and headaches, and/or any difficulty breathing, we ask that you reschedule your dental appointment and see your GP. This is especially important if you have these symptoms and have travelled overseas or had human to human contact with someone who has travelled overseas in the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms. Again, the measures mentioned above are equally as important in preventing the spread of the common cold. This is but a timely reminder of the importance of sound hygienic practices.
