25.01.2022 At Prospect we have a few little friends who the children love to visit during the day. We have two green tree frogs (Gary and Barry), a long necked turtle (Pearl), and two goldfish (flip and flop). The children in the centre help to take care of our animals which is supports their sense of caring and empathy for others, as well as fostering an interest in the natural world around them!

20.01.2022 Emali Hectorville children from our Safari Room enjoyed a recent excursion to the Library at St Joseph's Hectorville Primary School. 13.01.2022 This week Emali recognises World Mental Health Week #worldmentalhealthweek Sometimes your child may think they are not good enough, which will make them feel sad, worried or afraid. To help your child develop a strong sense of wellbeing - CONNECT and RELATE to your child by using RIGHT BRAIN emotions such as love, comfort, validation, empathy and humour. When your child is feeling SAFE, that is calmer, happier, and open to listening to you, REDIRECT their thoughts with LEFT BRAIN reasoning to encourage them to co-create positive outcomes and shared solutions. By CO-REGULATING with your child, they will always see you as their secure base and safe haven. Learn more by reading The Whole-Brain Child, a parenting book by Daniel J Seigel and Tina Bryson. #wholebrainchild

08.01.2022 It's been wonderful weather for sensory water play at our new Emali Underdale centre. Playing with water helps children develop their fine and gross motor skills. It also increases their hand-eye co-ordination through play actions such as pouring, squirting, scrubbing, stirring and squeezing. By doing these activities children master their pincer grip to help them correctly hold a pencil at school. As the days get warmer set up safe sensory water play activities in your back yard.

The sensing organs associated with each sense send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us. The Safari room children at Hectorville created a Sensory Board and picked out the materials. The children loved engaging in this activity.
