10.01.2022 Important heartburn medication update . Many pregnant women experience heartburn or acid reflux and Ranitidine (often known as Zantac) is a safe and effective medication BUT some batches of this medication have been found to be contaminated by a substance called NDMA. . NDMA does occur in some foods especially those cooked, smoked or cured, however it is known to be a potential carcinogen. The cancer risk occurs with long-term exposure (over years) and not short... term use. . Today the Therapeutic Goods Administration has issued a recall for Sandoz Raniditine. We advise all patients taking ranitidine in pregnancy to discuss the risks and benefits of continuing this therapy, as well as alternatives with their health care providers. Note that at the time of posting, the Zantac brand has not been recalled. There are also no concerns with antacids such as Gaviscon or Quikeze . #medicinesinpregnancy #medicines #medicinealert #prescribing #heartburn #heartburnrelief #gord #gerd #antacids #pregnancy #reflux #healthalert #tga #womenshealth See more

01.01.2022 This past week I’ve felt scared and powerless watching the #bushfirecrisis unfold. Afraid to let my kids go outside because of the hazardous air and smoke. Afraid for my friends, family and patients in bushfire affected areas, some trapped far from home. . This coming week I want to do something productive. I will throw myself into my work and support my patients the best way I know how. And I will donate. . For every patient seen this week, Embrace Women’s Health will dona...te $5 to the @redcrossau Bushfire Appeal. In honour of every baby I deliver this week, I will donate $100 to the @cfavic Bushfire Relief. #australiafires #bushfiresaustralia #climateemergency #cfa #redcross #thankyoufirstresponders #embracewomenshealth
