14.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that Central Highlands artist Rebecca Collis has been awarded an artist in residency grant through the Tough and Tender Beauty program from the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (CQ RASN). "My art merges imagination & memory, drawing on the books that I loved as a child in the 1980s. This has been my primary source of inspiration for the last couple of years, I love the whimsical creatures that come out of my memories as they l...aunch themselves onto the page. I absolutely love painting animals they produce a humor and whimsy art that resists taking life seriously. It is such an expressive journey watercolour as each colour bleeds over the paper its an exciting adventure every time, you never know what is going to happen. My current project is developing an Ecommerce store featuring my art on canvas shoes. Lolli & Pop is an huge step outside my comfort zone as an artist, featuring the wonderful whimsical creatures that spring to life as they appear on a simple product. Each with a personality that will make the collector excited to be wearing a limited edition of handmade Australian art." 07.01.2022 We extend a big congratulations to artist Lisa Roebig-Holmes who has been awarded an artist in residency grant through the Tough and Tender Beauty program from the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (CQ RASN). Lisas arts practice is focused on visual arts, with particular interests in painting, fibre arts, community art projects and digital collage. "I am an abstract artist with particular interest in colour relationships and using mixed media techniques to... represent everyday objects. Working as a full time Teacher Aide my art practice draws from my work experiences and I am inspired by the naivety of childrens interpretations of the world around them. Having dedicated myself to raising four children I have come to the profession of art making a little later in life and am currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Art through Curtin University. Over the past five years I have been involved in a number of community art projects, exhibitions and commission works. I have most recently developed a range of earrings from my paintings and completed a community art mural in dedication to the rural fire fighters of the Pioneer Valley. As a member of the CQ RASN residency program I look forward to collaborating with fellow artists and extending my skills in the area of abstract painting methods. Associating the strength and resilience of the natural environment, particularly trees, with the theme of Tough and Tender I will be developing new works of abstract botanical images." 05.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that Central Highlands artists Michelle Gray and Raelene Bock have been awarded an artist in residency grant through the Tough and Tender Beauty program from the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (CQ RASN). Michelle Gray and Raelene Bock have been collaborating in their art since 2016. Michelle is a glassblower, mostly working in flamework glass over a mixed gas torch, having learned many blowing and sculpting techniques having ...worked with a number of world renowned glass artists over the last 20 years. Raelene is a recycled metal worker and painter, having worked in those and many other mediums for over 15 years. "Together, we combine our mediums to contrast the delicate nature of glass in its bright luminous colours to the flexible nature and an infinite range of patinas in various recycled metals to create mostly large installations, often around botanical themes. We love the adventure of experimenting and pushing the boundaries of our creations and our mediums and aim to have the viewer feel they are almost part of our art, or that our art is a tangible part of their world." 02.01.2022 We extend a big congratulations to artist Sarah Larsen who has been awarded an artist in residency grant through the Tough and Tender Beauty program from the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (CQ RASN). Sarah is a multi-media artist, sculptor and author who is interested in both the internal and external landscape. "I am a full-time practicing artist with over 20 years experience in the Arts industry. My recent preoccupation has been with Autism Spectrum Di...sorder and Mental health concerns. I have created many works related to these complex maladies. My interactive exhibition Prismatic Pachyderms and childrens book, The Rainbow Elephant, toured selected galleries around Queensland and concluded in June 2019. I am involved with teaching and mentoring children with ASD working with them individually through my Art Engagement and Skill building program. I love to challenge myself and am currently enjoying learning about and working with Cold Wax Medium and combining it with other media and techniques. (photography, textiles and printmaking) These I apply onto different surfaces including teabags, textiles and Perspex. I am enthralled at the effects that can be achieved. During the CQRASN Artist Residency, Tough and Tender (#4) I plan to extend my professional repertoire to include a series of new works reusing and repurposing tea bags. Incorporating a range of media and techniques the humble tea bags will be shown in a new light."
