25.01.2022 Prehab . That’s a term that gets thrown around a lot these days! But what does it actually mean?! . For us, it means getting prepared as best you can both physically and mentally for your sport.... . The biggest predictor of injury (by a mile!), is previous injury! . So our philosophy is to try and avoid as many ‘avoidable’ injuries as possible in the first place. (We can’t predict everything that might happen!) . That means a good warm up. A well-structured exercise session and exercise program. A good warm down. And... a good understanding by the athlete of why they are doing all those things. . We want good athletes and we think informed athletes make better decisions. . In the gym, in practice, in the game. . Preparation is everything. . That’s our prehab . #prehab #emergingathlete #preparation #worldgymtoowoomba #theafhp #trainsmart #athleteculture See more

24.01.2022 St Mary’s College Basketball utilising 3/4 court linear speed. Each player’s profile includes top end speed, change of direction speed, and maximum aerobic game speed. We use this data for collective team feedback and this helps the team and individual understand the focus of each training block. They’ll be ready for their semi-finals when the season kicks off again.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to the Madden brothers Jacob, Riley and Tyler for making Darling Downs Touch Football teams and making the QLD Development camp playing for Titans. Wishing you all the best for the season ahead and we know the training is paying off boys! #emergingathlete #strengthandconditioning #toowoomba #worldgymtoowoomba #titans #touch #darlingdowns @ Toowoomba, Queensland

23.01.2022 All court and field sports require an element of speed. . Speed of movement and speed of thought. . Whether you’re chasing an object or a person, evading an object or a person, or straight up needing to win the race!... . It’s likely that speed will give you an advantage in some facet of your sport. . But how many ‘gym programs’ even cover that?! What do you do? How do you do it ? When do you do it? . The truth is that QUALITY of movement and speed are intrinsically linked. If you move better, the potential for speed is better. . Learning speed is about; learning to move learning to stabilise learning to mobilise . And the younger and better you learn that, the greater the chance you have of achieving your ultimate speed potential. . Join us. Learn. Go faster. #emergingathlete #speed #youthtraining #eatmydust See more

22.01.2022 We are very happy to be working with St Mary’s school this year. Watch this space for some exciting developments and programs ahead and the expansion of their sports facilities

16.01.2022 Mobility testing in rotational sports is absolutely key. Sometimes an athlete has more than they need and sometimes not enough. The most important thing is to recognise where lack of mobility or range of motion will hinder performance. Often an athlete works around it and adds strength or load to a potential dysfunction, causing further complications along the way. Here is PGA professional Golfer, Chris going through our Titleist Performance screening system. We look forward to the journey ahead Chris! #worldgymtoowoomba #toowoombagolf #golf #strengthandconditioning #mobilitytesting #mobility

12.01.2022 Although the Rugby League season has come to an end for an indefinite period, the 1sts Saint Mary’s Rugby League team are training as planned. The focus this morning was creating pre tension at the line and increasing force output on the first step. At first, the forward lean with the external cue of uppercutting on the first step was used to increase force in the first step. Towards the end of the session it was progressed to a 2 point start, creating pre tension at the line and trying to put it together over 30m.

12.01.2022 Whenever we say POWER, people think powerlifting . . That’s a sport in its own right, but with respect to field and court sports, it isn’t (necessarily), about shifting heavy weights. . In these sports it’s more about how fast you can move whatever it is you need to move.... . That might be bodyweight (think jumpers and sprinters), or it might be an object (think throwers). . It might be in a straight line or it might be multiple directions. . It could be on the ground or it could be in the air. . It could be reactive or pre-planned. . In many sports, there is a very good chance it’s a combination of ALL of these things. . So how do you prepare for that?! . Our philosophy is that power comes last. Because if you don’t have strength, stability and speed, there’s no way you can express power well or without risking jury. . It’s why we consider the athlete as a whole and build the foundations first. . Because solid foundations build solid structures and for an athlete to have any chance of success (and certainly to have any chance of longevity), the foundations need to be the priority. . So, when an athlete asks us when they can start developing power, we’ll tell them they are already doing it! . #emergingathlete #startatthebeginning #buildingbetterathletes #powerdevelopment #betternotbroken See more

11.01.2022 A massive congratulations to Cory Paix on being named to make his NRL debut tonight. Cory is easily one of the hardest trainers I’ve worked with and deserves all success that comes his way. All the best mate!

10.01.2022 Too often athletes and coaches get agility and COD drills mixed up. Here is a nice explanation from @scienceforsport with the difference between the two. The coaches at Emerging Athlete realize the importance of training COD, agility and the various sub qualities of speed so much that they dedicate at least one session per week to those before mentioned physical qualities.

10.01.2022 Practice makes perfect! . We can’t guarantee that you’ll be a world beater. . But what we can tell you is that the only way to get good at something - really good - is to practice.... . To do it over and over again until your brain responds automatically. . Whether that’s running a line, catching a ball, landing safely, making a free throw or smashing a tackle. . These are the foundations of athletic performance and the reason we drill athletes in both basic and complex cognitive tasks. . When you can complete a fundamental skill without it taking up conscious brain space, then you can pay attention to the things outside of your control. . #emergingatlete #worldgymtoowoomba #practicemakesperfect #trainsmart See more

09.01.2022 St Mary’s Opens Basketball moving into their power phase this week. Controlled barbell jump shrugs are an excellent alternative to a hang clean that provides ‘triple extension’ and does not put additional stresses on shoulder and wrist.

08.01.2022 Kroggy doing his thing

07.01.2022 Term 4 Emerging Athlete Program is underway! This week we completed testing our young athletes in several performance measures. We were delighted to have access to Force Decks courtesy of VALD performance. This allows our coaches to measure neuromuscular strength and potential imbalance using a simple countermovement jump (CMJ) test. Here is Mitch, one of our up and coming Touch athletes giving it a crack

05.01.2022 BOOM! . You never quite know where, when or even how all your training is going to pay off. . The truth is that in the day-to-day you’ll probably never notice.... . But that one time. That one moment comes along. . And you nail it. . The tackle, the pass, the score, the catch, the dribble, the race, the jump, the goal. . That’s why you get up and train. . And that’s why we’re there to meet you... . #onemoment #performancegoals #exceptional #alwaysbeready #emergingathlete #worldgymtoowoomba See more
