25.01.2022 What happens when we welcome children’s emotions rather than minimising or dismissing them? This episode explores the benefits of an emotion-focused approach to parenting with associate professor and clinical psychologist, Sophie Havighurst. Sophie has spent her career developing, implementing, and evaluating the program, Tuning in to Kids, which was designed to teach parents how to support their children’s emotional development. In this episode, we discuss why connecting with children’s emotions is so important for their development, along with some of the fundamental principles taught in Tuning in to Kids. This short article is based on a study which reviews the effects of passive nature exposure on children to promote emotional, behavioural, and cognitive change in children and young people. https://bit.ly/2RZP2fb

20.01.2022 National Child Protection Week celebrates its 30th year this year with the theme: 'Putting children first'. The Emerging Minds Australia: National Workforce Centre for Child Mental Health’s six practice positions help practitioners to apply a child-focused lens to their work. According to people with lived experience of service delivery, children’s visibility is the most important aspect of child-focused practice. These positions can help to keep children visible through every aspect of service delivery, by promoting authentic conversations between practitioners and parents/caregivers about parenting and their children’s wellbeing, and supporting practitioners to feel confident engaging with infants, children and families. https://bit.ly/33lMm13 #ncpw #ncpw20 #playyourpart

The consultation will provide the Youth Taskforce with a better understanding of how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting Australia’s young people, and directly contribute to the Australian Government's National Youth Policy Framework which will be delivered by December 2020. The survey will be open until Monday, 12 October 2020. https://bit.ly/3jh0vDi

11.01.2022 This year's theme for National Child Protection Week is 'Putting children first'. Practitioners can help play a role in putting children first by engaging them in decision-making processes. By empowering children to take a role in the decisions that affect them, this can enhance children's self-esteem, problem-solving skills, and feelings of connectedness with improved relationships with adults and other young people. Produced by the Australian Institute of Family Studies, this suite of practice papers is designed to increase the knowledge of child and family service professionals to support the inclusion of children in decision making: https://bit.ly/3b13pJ9 #playyourpart #ncpw #ncpw2020
