23.01.2022 When you watch someone go through one of the most transformational events of their life you notice all their little details that make that person unique and special. Like the way her nose scrunches up when she really smiles and feels joyous. The way she notices and appreciates every small loving act that is graced upon her. That this was not just a momentous moment of meeting her baby but becoming the deeper version of her true self in all it’s beautiful rich complexities a...nd filled with intentional rituals. Her soul shines so brightly.
15.01.2022 Never underestimate the strength and power you hold within you. Watching these two work together to create the birth they had hoped for despite many hurdles put in front of them. The joy and elation afterwards knowing they did it! Now her obstetrician has seen his first ever water birth, just before he retires.
06.01.2022 The moment of exhale. I’ve noticed every mother does this once their baby is in their arms. They close their eyes, and let out a deep exhale. Sometimes it is immediately after the baby is born, sometimes it is a few minutes later. It’s as if they are returning to the earth, grounding themselves. Being present in this moment and space. It is relief, joy, exhaustion, and elation all in one breath.
05.01.2022 One of the tools you might find useful in labour is a rebozo. You don’t have to have a specific piece of material that is an actual rebozo you can use anything like a sheet, or a towel. I often use a slide sheet when working as a midwife at the hospital because it’s what I have available to me. You can use them in so many different ways including the ones shown here to help with pushing. Wrap them around the hips and pull each way to provide counter pressure on the hips. Wra...p it over the woman’s bottom and grasp on each side to shake the hips and bottom between surges to keep everything soft and loose, also helps move babies head into a better position. You can use it as an aid to help you get into a squat. Use under the belly when the woman is on all fours to help sift the belly to help move baby into a better position if it is posterior. This gentle lifting of the belly also helps to take the weight off for the mother between surges. A great resource to look up different ways to use one in labour is @spinningbabies which is a wealth of knowledge in optimal fetal positioning techniques. Did you use a rebozo or a piece of material in labour and how did you use it? Was it helpful?
04.01.2022 The Maiden She stands at the edge of the universe, waiting for the moment when she will be called behind the veil. As each day passes she becomes more and more open. She feels the intensity growing, as though the vibrations of everything and everyone around her are becoming louder and louder. She retreats to the calm and quiet of her nest. Let her rest, for once the surges begin to rise she needs all her energy to ride the waves of labour to meet her baby. ... The unknown and the certainties of it all unravelling you as a woman to become reborn as mother.
