24.01.2022 Hello! Ive been quiet the last few months, unusual for me, I know. For those who dont know, I left my corporate career 2 years ago to study a Bachelor of Design whilst freelancing in both design and diving to keep paying the mortgage (#adultlife). Its been one heck of a ride the past 24 months! To all my UW Photo students - I have been keeping an eye out and I am LOVING seeing all your photos posted!! Good news My ducks are getting in to a row and I will soon have... more time to spend on something Im so passionate about - helping you get epic photos below the surface! Theres always a lesson to take out of a good challenge so heres one: Lesson: You cant unleash your creativity when youre feeling stressed, busy or flustered. Tip: Next time you hit the water with your camera and youre just not feeling it... take a moment. Snorkel or reg in, face in the water looking down, take three breaths making the exhale a little bit longer each time. Find your zen and your photo mojo will follow. If you set out flustered, your photos will be too. Happy shooting, please do reach out to me if you get stuck or need help with your photos! Emma PS - Thanks for this photo of me getting my zen on Freedive145

21.01.2022 Good morning from Vanuatu! Gearing up to go visit the Lady & the Unicorn Pacific Dive

21.01.2022 Isnt amazing how looking at a photo can take your memory straight back to where you were at that very moment in time! We had 200mm of rain in 3 days while in the Solomon Islands, but with water as clear as this it really didnt matter!! Incredible experience to be below the surface in toasty warm 28 degree water blissfully unaware the surface conditions until returning to the boat

20.01.2022 Soaking up every little bit of sunlight in this glorious water Kwakea Island, Vanuatu by Jodie Murphy

20.01.2022 Mid week boat night dive .... yes please!!! Would anyone else like to join me?? Emma

19.01.2022 I had an incredible dive at the Opera House off Rottnest Island, Western Australia today!!! The dive site is an open cave below the limestone reef, about 35m deep and home to hundreds of Bullseye fish and occasional GREY NURSE SHARKS Thanks to all the legend buddies and Image Dive and Charters for a great day out ... For the fellow Underwater Photographers in the room - heres a bit of a backstory behind these photos ... Ive dived this site a few times now and I still havent been able to truly nail the photography Its a challenging site! You only have about 20 minutes down there and need to consider: Its pretty dark down there so you need a lot of artificial light. But it can get silting so if the light settings and angles arent right you get a lot of reflection & backscatter in the shot When using a lot of light close up to the Bullseye they reflect and very easily come out over exposed The natural light pouring through the reef adds another element to expose for in the shots. Today I set out to only shoot video with a single video light and left my strobes at home. Well that didnt go to plan as I had issues with the record button in the housing and was unable to shoot any video. I tried to get some still photos and just simply did not have enough light. These are the ONLY 2 photos I have to share. THE MORAL OF THE STORY: Plan your shots and go in with a good idea of what you need to do when you have limited time. Have a plan B and the equipment for the job. Most importantly, be ok with turning your camera off and just enjoying a great dive some times, I did that today and had a blast! Happy Shooting! Emma

19.01.2022 My happy place! Everyone knows I love the South Pacific! Growing up in NZ, it feels like home and while staying on this incredible private island for a week I was in my element! What makes this island so special? I cant quite put my finger on it Perhaps its the reefs, beaches, bungalows, fresh food, coconuts, hammocks, fishing, tranquility or the delightful warm & clear water! ... Youll be able to find out for yourself soon enough as Kwakea Island Resort is gearing up to start taking public bookings for groups up to 10 people Book me in!! Emma

19.01.2022 Hmmm maybe I should do more land photography! #photographergoals

18.01.2022 Back when we could go on Charter Boats! Seems like so long ago

16.01.2022 Imagine swimming through here right now!!

16.01.2022 Hands up if you've taken what you think is a 'shot of gold' and then when you first see it on your computer, your heart sinks a little. ME!!!! .... it happens all the time!! But don't lose hope. Post-production is a significant step in digital photography, especially if you're shooting in RAW format. ... See this example - we made a few quick changes throughout the Underwater Basics Workshop yesterday and VOILA! The shot has come to life Don't give up on all those photos that aren't quite where you want them to be.... they have potential!

14.01.2022 The best part about filming... the screen grabs Pretty sure my thinking was along the lines of well shit, how do I make sense of this all for people?!

14.01.2022 Had a wonderful afternoon with @fishingropes turning old fishing ropes in to a useable (and decorative) mat! The volume of rope that ends up in landfills is scary!!! Spread the word... weaving is so much greater for the environment AND it’s an excellent activity for mindfulness. Win win for everyone! I’ll be on the look out to collect more rope now that I can weave it ... Thanks for hosting and organising the workshop @sonnify If you’re keen to do one of these workshops in Perth, comment below. I’m going to organise another one soon for fellow ocean lovers Happy crafting! 12.01.2022 Love this!!! Theres nothing more uplifting than an action packed underwater film to start the day, wouldnt you agree?!

12.01.2022 Turn the sound up and be inspired by the sea!!

12.01.2022 Take me back to Uepi Island Resort, Solomon Islands where you get to swim with #mantarays every morning and the water is a balmy 29 degrees Ps - this video finished video looks NOTHING like the original clip straight off the camera. Comment if you’re interested to see the raw footage. If enough people comment I’ll show it! #underwaterphotography #underwater #scubadiving #scuba #diving #dive #freediving

12.01.2022 Ok guys, we have ALL been there! You know, when you cant wait to see your photos on a diving holiday... then as they load on to your computer your heart sinks and you think these are c***p and so and so has much better images than me Your first reaction is to hit DELETE, DELETE, DELETE. But please..... STOP!!! ... Im here to tell you there is hope. Its called post production, and chances are when you look at other peoples photos from the same trip, youre looking at ones they have worked on and developed. Ideally we want to nail the shot while underwater, but we all know it doesnt always happen that way. Heres an example of a photo I really wanted to keep but looked terrible straight off the camera... so I processed it a little. Have you got examples of your own? Share them below, would love to see them! If post production scares the beegeezas out of you. Then join one of my upcoming Guided Editing Sessions, I can help simplify it fo you! -> https://www.facebook.com/events/2447393991974479/ Happy Shooting Em
