25.01.2022 Due to this breaking news, I will suspend all client sessions from 6pm tonight until 6pm Monday night the 11th Jan. So far I can gather this currently only affects 2 people and possibly a couple of others who would have potentially been considering booking spots on Monday afternoon. I will be in contact with you all and I am also in the process of liaising with Fitness Australia to see if visiting a PT is included in the exercise category and/or if fitness providers are considered an essential business/service. I am grateful for your understanding and patience during this time. If you have been to any of the locations listed by Qld Health in regards to the new case please proceed to get tested and advise me.

25.01.2022 Feedback from an older female relative who goes for a long brisk walk (6-7km in 50-60 mins) every morning. She is quite fit and has no underlying health issues. An average person of her age has a max HR of 160. I have given her some advice on the signs to look out for to prevent any detrimental effects to her health from wearing a mask during exercise. If mask-wearing is causing a 15-25bpm increase in a moderately fit person then imagine what it can do to an unfit person. The safest thing to do during this lockdown is exercise at home so that you do not have to wear a mask and put yourself at risk of compromised breathing.

25.01.2022 While I definitely do not advise my clients to undertake high intensity training in extremely hot conditions, I also strongly advise them to avoid using an air-conditioner as a method of cooling their workout environment. Air-conditioners can impair your body’s natural cooling mechanism (sweating) and can also impair your body’s ability to regulate your body temperature. On top of that, air-conditioners can wreak havoc on your respiratory system, particularly while undertaki...ng exercise. With south-east Queensland being in a heatwave at the moment, I still of course encourage people to exercise whenever possible, but keeping in mind that some temporary changes will need to be made to your regime during this time. I advise exercising indoors using a well-ventilated and fan-cooled area, or outdoors in a shady environment, preferably with a breeze. Ensure that you have plenty of water on hand (it doesn’t have to be ice cold) - take extra sips but don’t guzzle - and have plenty of towels ready to mop that sweat up! Wear a hat and sunglasses when outdoors and seek shade. Reduce your training session durations in hot weather as your body will find what you usually do, harder. And lastly, listen to your body and be aware of the signs of overheating - feeling cold/goosebumps, nausea, dizziness, weakness, faintness and drowsiness - take extra, regular breaks if needed, and this is not the time to increase your load or try something new. 24.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. Mental health is an extremely prevalent issue in today’s society. Particularly, within Australia, one in every five Australia...ns between the ages of 16-85 will experience a mental illness in any given year Black Dog Institute Please remember to check on friends, family and loved ones during these uncertain times. As well as looking after your own mental health and wellbeing, which we know in our industry can be as simple as regular exercise. 22.01.2022 Due to increasing numbers of participants, the sudden and unrelenting hot weather and lack of shady space in the mornings, I have decided to move my morning beginners group fitness classes to afternoons. This is for the health, safety and benefits of all involved. Can all current members and prospective members of these classes please contact me with your thoughts on this for days and times etc. Keeping in mind that I am unavailable Tuesday and Friday afternoons. I apologise if this inconveniences anyone. (One on one morning PT clients will be able to continue; this change will only affect the current Tues/Thurs 9:30 beginners groups.)

20.01.2022 The struggle is real!

20.01.2022 My advice is to continue to exercise during lockdown. But be flexible as you may need to make temporary changes to your normal routine, especially if you usually attend a gym or personal trainer. As I have pointed out in my post below there is conflicting advice about mask-wearing during exercise. I don’t want anyone copping $200 fines but I also don’t want to see anyone passing out from having to wear a mask when they go for a run or a bike ride! If you feel like you cannot breathe when wearing a mask, suffer from anxiety or claustrophobia, or have a chronic respiratory condition such as asthma, my advice is to please exercise at home in any way that you can so as to avoid having to wear a mask!

11.01.2022 Found an iced coffee I actually like! This is a good alternative for when I feel like a caffeine hit when out walking and there’s no hot coffee places open. It tastes just like a hot coffee that’s been chilled - literally coffee and milk. (I warn you though, if you usually like a sweet iced coffee then this one is definitely not for you - it’s not sweet at all). And best of all it’s made with one of my favourite roasters of coffee - Merlo!

03.01.2022 Being sick and unable to train sucks! Sickness is your body's way of telling you something is wrong and you need to take a step back. There is nothing wrong ...with taking a break from training - and you need to - because if you don't, it will just delay your recovery and hinder your future performance. . So what can you do in the downtime? Unless your doctor has specifically put you on bed rest, being unable to train at your usual level doesn't mean you have to be totally sedentary.... Go for a walk, do some gardening, play some gentle games with your kids or do some housework if you feel up to it. Don't go overdoing it, but if you simply can't stand being inactive, get up and move around a bit. If you feel yourself going downhill or your activity levels are causing a delay with your recovery, then rest immediately. And always follow your doctor's instructions first. . Other ways to keep occupied whilst sick are to focus on your emotional health and your eating habits... Cook and freeze some healthy meals for when you are back in action! Detox your life- your Facebook friends list, your wallet, your wardrobe! Read a good book that makes you happy or listen to music that puts you in a good mood and energises you! Research healthy recipes and write future workout plans/programs to keep you motivated! Enjoy the downtime and get well soon!

01.01.2022 It’s too hot, I can’t work out. It’s too cold, I can’t work out. It’s too early, I can’t work out. It’s too late, I can’t work out. I’ve got the kids, ...I can’t work out. I’m too tired, I can’t work out. I’ve got a headache, I can’t work out. I’m too busy, I can’t work out. I’m a shift worker, I can’t work out. I’ve got my period, I can’t work out. Sound familiar? There’s never a perfect time to exercise! And there never will be. Just like your life is never perfect. You just have to do it. Just like breathing, Just like sleeping, Just like eating. You MUST do it. And not just occasionally either! Multiple times a week. It must be a PERMANENT, SUSTAINABLE part of your life. Yep - just like breathing, Just like sleeping, Just like eating. You MUST do it. (**These examples of common excuses are in no way directed at any person or persons in particular**)

01.01.2022 At Emotifit, our motto is Promoting Emotional Health Through Physical Fitness. This means that we value our mental health and believe that our minds are closely balanced with our bodies; and that by creating a fit and healthy vessel physically, we have the ability to enhance and improve our mental health. We do not rely on external factors to dictate or influence our perception of ourselves, our bodies, or our purpose in life. We do not rely on scales or measurements to det...ermine our success. And we definitely don’t compare ourselves to others. Getting fit by doing exercise is not just about losing weight or changing your size and shape. It’s not about attaining that impossible figure or getting to a particular weight. For us, the reason behind getting fit is simple - to feel happy, healthy and energised; to love ourselves; and to become so in tune with our minds that we take full control of our mental health and become the best humans we can be.
