25.01.2022 Happy Easter enjoy your long weekend and stay safe on the roads! Blackout Coffee and Catering sponsored puppy ‘Greg’ isn’t understanding why the bunny doesn’t want to play lol

25.01.2022 We’re looking forward to meeting you from 7am tomorrow for the Blackout Coffee and Catering Coffee, Cupcakes & Puppies fundraiser. It’s going to be loads of fun.....where else can you get a coffee with a serve of puppy kisses

24.01.2022 Love watching the puppies develop & get more confident. They seem to grow in ability day by day. They’re now 5 weeks old & of course super cute!

24.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to the extreme rain event, we have to cancel tonight's dinner at Grill'd Browns Plains. It wouldn't be pleasant for other diners in the restaurant to have to smell wet dog whilst having their dinner and there is no escaping the rain with the amount of water around. Let's hope we all safely make it through this week so we can try again next week if possible. Stay watching our page and we'll let you know if we can reschedule. Stay safe people!

24.01.2022 Masks are mandatory Triya.....just make sure to fit it properly!

23.01.2022 These pics say it all! Our dogs really do change lives

23.01.2022 Come along and say hi....we’d love to see you there

23.01.2022 Love this joint program that we’re conducting with Hymba Yumba Independent School

20.01.2022 What would we do without our wonderful puppy raisers? It’s always a tough day when a puppy raiser has to say goodbye to a dog that they have put so much love and time into - especially when they’ve had them from 8 weeks of age. Puppy raisers do this job because they want to change lives....they are such generous people and we can never repay them for their efforts. Today Robyn said goodbye to Hershey as he left her home to move on to his new family. It’s not really goodbye as he will always stay connected to our charity, but that doesn’t alter the fact that it’s still having to let go. We thank you Robyn for giving Hershey a great home & putting so much effort into helping him to become the great dog that he is

19.01.2022 We've had some comments from people about doing a joint litter of pups with another service dog training organisation. Our response to those comments are that we are thoroughly enjoying this joint litter and in fact there is no reason why different charities that provide similar services can't work together for a common cause. This initiative only goes towards helping more people with disabilities so we see it as a win win situation for all parties involved. If only there were more people, businesses, charities, groups that could get on with each other, the world wouldn't be hurting the way it currently is. Puppy Update: The puppies are growing so quickly! They're now starting to get up and about and they have moved out of the whelping box and into their playpen. The world is their oyster and now the fun begins.......

19.01.2022 We really love working with this school & seeing some of the innovative programs that they teach. Watch the entire video & you’ll see Akuna the puppy we’ve placed in the school that started the program that we’re now delivering on a weekly basis where the older kids are taught dog training as part of their curriculum

19.01.2022 Proud to be working with Hymba Yumba Independent School to deliver therapy and service dog training course for the students. This award is for the numerous innovative learning opportunities that they provide their students including cultural studies. Such an awesome school where they have a unique education system and the kids love going to school. This is a very deserved award....congratulations to all involved!

19.01.2022 Yesterday the Jarjums from Hymba Yumba Independent School had a lot of responsibility to be great ambassadors not only for the school but for Empower Assistance Dogs as they headed out into the shops with the latest group of candidate puppies in training. Today was both a first for the Jarjums and the pups to have this experience. It is really important for Empower Assistance Dog pups in training to gain correct social exposure throughout critical times of their development... and it must be a positive experience for them to enjoy themselves and want to repeat the learning of taking on new experiences confidently. Thanks Woolworths Meadowbrook for being so welcoming today. The Jarjums obviously also enjoyed themselves today as there were many requests to be able to do more of this type of training with the pups. Some of these pups will go on to work with child handlers with disability so to have the Jarjums co-handle under the supervision of the Puppy Raisers and Trainers is a definite advantage for their future service dog roles. All feedback from Empower Assistance Dog Trainers and their Puppy Raisers regarding the behaviour of the Jarjums was fantastic and the Puppy Raisers enjoyed it so much they have volunteered to attend the program again to have more similar experiences. Todays lesson taught responsibility, manners, puppy training, community awareness, Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs public access rights and legislation, critical periods of development and socialisation, human interaction, respect for others and so much more!!! See more

18.01.2022 Love this program and watching the growth of both confidence and skills in the jarjums

17.01.2022 Perfect morning to raise money for a fantastic cause and of course, cuddle some of the cutest puppies. Blackout Coffee and Catering were raising money for o...ne of my favourite local organisations, Empower Assistance Dogs. And it was great to catch up with Jaz again who is now studying animal studies at TAFE. If you didn’t make it down to Blackout Coffee today, you can still donate to this wonderful organisation: https://www.empowerassistancedogs.org.au/donate

16.01.2022 Merry Christmas from everyone at Empower Assistance Dogs. We hope you have a happy, healthy and festive holiday season and we sincerely thank you for your support throughout 2020.

16.01.2022 It's National Puppy Day and we're always happy to have a visit from Shannon Fentiman MP (our local State MP & Qld Attorney General). Karma was happy to share her puppies but stayed around to keep an eye on the kids. If there are pats on offer, Karma is always happy to be available for cuddles. These pups will soon be off to their puppy raisers.....they may be little but they're bound to do big things!

15.01.2022 Come along on Saturday 28th November at 7am to Blackout Coffee and Catering at Crestmead for their Coffee, Cupcakes and Puppies fundraiser. We'll have some of our current pups in training and we'd love to see you there! We always love to support the businesses that support us and help us to help others :-)

14.01.2022 Today we had a puppy raiser training day. We run these regularly with our wonderful volunteers whom raise and train our candidate pups for us. Without these very generous people helping our program, we couldn't offer the services we do so we always enjoy our time together. Today we did some public access training both in the shopping centre and on the train. Covid definitely alters the way we have to do things at the moment but we need to ensure that these pups all continue their social interaction so that they can progress through their training and maintain their social outlooks on life. If you would like to become a puppy raiser for our program, send us an email to [email protected] #mustlovedogs

13.01.2022 A wonderful effort from the Blackout Coffee and Catering community today. A total of $2250 was raised via their Coffee, Cupcakes & Puppies fundraiser. What a fantastic venue, and the food!!!!! You really do need to check out their website - but beware....it will make you crave scrumptious food. Thank you to everyone who has donated ..... we appreciate it very much! Thank you also to our Empower Puppy Raisers, Breeder Families & supporters who came along.....we couldn’t do what we do without you all

12.01.2022 Homer is happy to chill out & take a nap whenever he chooses. When he’s really comfortable he rolls on his back with his feet up just like his mumma does. We’re excited to see how this little guy progresses through his training over the coming months

11.01.2022 Puppy Raiser Training Day was held at @blackout_coffee_and_catering. The Blackout team were able to meet candidate puppy ‘Greg’ who they are supporting throughout his training. It was great to bring the latest litter of pups back together for their first joint outing. We had some of our older candidates on-site too and they were great role models. Love our volunteers.....they’re a great group of generous people that take their puppy raising roles very seriously & do a fantastic job giving these dogs the best opportunity to thrive whilst providing loving homes.

11.01.2022 Congratulations Hymba Yumba Independent School - very well deserved.

10.01.2022 This is a family that we are currently working with to try to place one of our assistance dogs with Jazmin. Please take the time to read their story. They are desperately in need of support so we can make their dream a reality. Every little bit helps so even if you only have $5.00 to donate, that would be one less coffee this week. Please share across your networks. Many people giving a little can help a lot

10.01.2022 We can’t express how much we love this program & how proud we are of these kids!

10.01.2022 It's school holiday time and we'll definitely miss the kids over the next few weeks. We're sure Wednesday's won't be the same for the dogs either....they're really enjoying this program!

04.01.2022 Today we were able to thank our puppy raiser Pam Blunt for her work in raising our candidate dog Dallas. Dallas has now entered the program for her intensive task training before being partnered with her handler. Pam has done such a lovely job in raising Dallas and her dedication to puppy raising for us is amazing. She travels from Toowoomba to Logan to attend training on a regular basis. We've got the best team of puppy raisers and although today is a tough day for Pam to say goodbye to Dallas, she is taking on another puppy to continue her good work helping us to help others. You'll see Dallas over the coming weeks as she progresses through her training. Thank you Pam, your efforts are very much appreciated and you're very special to the Empower Assistance Dogs family.

04.01.2022 We're really enjoying this very special program that we are providing in conjunction with Hymba Yumba Independent School and teacher Pauline McLeod. Some schools have Agricultural Departments, but we've established a Dog Raising and Training Program where the kids gain real life skills on how we raise and train therapy and service dogs. This is an awesome school that has a real life, hands on approach to learning, giving the students not only the physical training but the th...eory from birth through critical development stages for the pups and onto adulthood, health and husbandry, training principles and so much more. It's easier to learn maths when you're weighing puppies or learning to measure how much food they need to have good health! Literacy skills are also benefited via writing skills that are required to do training records etc. The dogs definitely benefit from this program too! Some of these dogs will go on to be placed with a child handler with a disability or maybe even take on a therapy role in a school environment. What better way to give the dogs a wonderful and comfortable learning opportunity than to allow them to have nice interactions with children from the start. It also allows us to socialise the dogs to the bells and alarms etc. that happen in the school environment in a safe and controlled way. It's wonderful to see the entire school embrace this program. All of the students have been taught when and how they can interact with the pups and dogs when they are in the school yard and the compliance and respect from the students has been great. The dogs are now starting to look forward to school days too. Let's hope we see some of these students in the future follow into careers where they see a benefit in helping others to have greater independence and quality of life.

02.01.2022 We're hoping that this story explains the recent media release that we put out last week. Please continue to support our charity as donations have already been impacted due to covid so we don't need any other distractions from the work we do within the community. Thank you for your support!

02.01.2022 Who said assistance dogs don't have fun and a normal family life!!! Check out Willow (our little hippo-paw-tomus) who can always sniff out the closest mud puddle for some good times Photo credit: G Healy

02.01.2022 Happy 4th Birthday to Angel, Brooklyn, Jello, Mango, Molly, Persia & Radar. This was our first litter from Blitz and they've all grown into such beautiful dogs :-)
