24.01.2022 C is for Carob. This is a great substitute for cocoa and has no salicylates, however please be careful if you have peanut or legume sensitivities. Its got a nutty-chocolatey kinda taste and slightly sweeter than cocoa.... Its not only rich in fiber and antioxidants but it can improve gut health and may help lower blood sugars and cholestral. Carob does not contain any caffeine and an added bonus is... we can give it to our doggies too....Theres many more health benefits but these are just a few. It doesn't taste exactly like chocolate but it can be a great substitute if you are following a restrictive diet. Here are a few things I used it for during my elimination diet. Add to smoothies Make a hot/cold milk drink from it Add to my pancake or muffin batter Sprinkle on ice-cream Carob is sold now in most supermarkets and healthfood shops. #empoweredeats #habitsforhealth #perthdieitian #salicylatesensitivity #nofoodchemicals #carob #alternativetochocolate

07.01.2022 One thing I learnt very quickly when I discovered that I had food intolerances, was that I needed to plan ahead when eating out ...rather than avoid eating out! Most restaurants and cafes now have their menu's online which then gives you chance to not only view it to see whats available for you, but then, you can call them directly to ask them about certain ingredients and if they can tweak things for you. The answer is mostly always YES I found most eateries are more than ...happy to accommodate and this now is an everday thing for them, as more and more of us are discovering what our bodies like and don't like. I started to own my sensitivities rather them give me anxiety with the thought of going out. Some cuisines were easier than others but the worst I think was Mexican due to onion, garlic and corn in many dishes. Japanese was always a good choice for me or Western that could do either a simple salad with Fish or Steak. Some occasions when I knew it would be just too difficult I ate before I went out and I just had a drink...or two Don't miss out on the pleasure of socialising with your friends and family, just plan ahead. #empoweredeats #eatingout #foodintolerances #foodallergies

05.01.2022 I know how difficult it can be trying to figure out whats causing your gut issues. ... ...but please don't be tempted by one of these food intolerance tests that ask you for a strand of hair or requests blood from you so that they can diagnose your gut issues and give you a personalised diet plan. THIS TEST DOES NOT EXIST...YET!!!... Science is moving very fast and hopefully in a few years time there will be a test that works and is also regulated. With the exception of detecting Coeliac Disease and a lactose intolerance tests, the others are simply wasting your money. Using information from these tests can also be damaing to your health and your mind. If in doubt speak to your GP first to rule out anything more serious, then your dietitian. We are always here to help you. #empowereats #habitsforhealth #perthdietitian #foodintolerances #gutissues #foodallergies

02.01.2022 Wow its been a busy first quarter to the year and I'm learning (slowly) that resting and recharging my body does me and my gut the world of good. Getting my sleep, reducing my stress and just slowing down, helps all those little nerves all around your body but especially for me...in my gut. Hope we all manage to recharge our batteries over this long weekend. ... #empoweredeats #perthdietitian #ibs #foodsensitivities #foodintolerances #selflove #soulcare #guthealth
