24.01.2022 A perfect post for today as I reflect on the fiery spirit of my 3 yr old turning 4 next week. Nathanael sooo needs to be outside more often than not. He loves getting dirty, he loves helping Dad in the shed, loves chasing the dogs and them chasing him. I think about the weather changing and the challenges I may encounter with more inside time being more appropriate. My question is do you allow your kids to really 'get dirty' and explore the out doors? I do find it challenging at times in our backyard as we have extremely sandy soil and getting dirty is an understatement. We have plans to landscape yet it will be a while. I have learnt to 'let it go' the kids have an awesome time and I love seeing their smiles, hearing the giggles and their make believe scenarios. Priceless....! Get outside and get dirty one and all.... :-)
13.01.2022 "Delusional - a false belief or opinion: delusions of grandeur." Maybe I am??? Who am I to think that I can be a wonderful wife, an amazing mum, an entrepreneur, run a business, write a book and build a platform to publish the book. I want to do it all, right NOW!!! My wise little girl reminded me at bedtime last night about 'doing one thing at a time'. It has been a challenge over the last month as I have now needed to step up to help out with our business. The challenges... of juggling all the pieces of the puzzle that are necessary and not giving up on my dream to publish. I don't think I am being delusional, I just need to remind myself of the quote "right time, right place". I choose to continue doing little by little and will get there eventually. I thank you for your continued support on this journey of mine. Giddy up my beautiful unicorn off we go......
13.01.2022 Today was a very special day, a day that I was able to stand by my little girl's side and share the stage. As the '7 Habits at Home' parent ambassador I/we were asked to speak at Parktone Primary Schools Leadership day. We were asked to share examples of how we use the habits at home. It went so well and as I tear up whilst typing this, I am so proud of the self assured, loving, caring, soulful and confident young lady she is becoming. This quote crossed my path tonight an...d got me thinking about a conversation I over heard about a parent saying that "there is no way I would be able to get up a speak in front of so many people. I hope my kids don't take after me". Yes, I have spent a lot of time 'centre stage' in various situations over the years, but you know what, today I was VERY nervous and made the comment to my husband on the way out the door that I felt sick. Isabelle over heard my comment and said "Mummy maybe its the butterflies in your tummy" Michael then said "and most probably because Mummy forgot to have breakfast." ;-) Looking back over the experience I think my nerves were about wanting to do Isabelle proud and be the 'perfect' role model. I believe that it is so important to have our children see us as adults 'embody things' that may be out of our comfort zones. How do we indeed expect them to do just that, if we ourselves are not willing to do so. Every day there is something to learn, today my girl taught me how to breathe and that being nervous is all part of the process. I was the 'perfect' role model, I didn't pretend that I was NOT nervous nor did I have a massive panic attack. What I did do is acknowledge that nerves are good and all we needed to do was breathe through experience, trust that we were prepared and that all would be great. And it was... Embody something new .... I challenge you! :-)
10.01.2022 At what point are we too 'old' to be swinging on a swing? I saw this post today and it reminded me of the conversation I had with my mother in law who has recently had the big '70' birthday. She was talking about her walk the other day and her decision to go for a swing on the swing set in the park. Passers by made the comment, "I always wanted to do that..." I am so proud of her and I think she was also proud of not questioning herself or talking herself out of it. Somethi...ng I think most of us would do. Granted sometimes swing sets may not be designed for us 'adults', yet I challenge you all to get out there and have some fun on a swing, in the sand pit, climbing a tree, rolling in the grass be a kid again...who says we are too old. Not mention really 'playing' with as opposed to just 'watching' children in a park is soooo much more fun for everyone. When was the last time you sat on a swing or climbed a tree?
08.01.2022 Love it...my favourites "We are problem solvers in this house" and "Would a hero say that?"
03.01.2022 Love this...encouraging phrases focusing on behavior/actions do indeed go a long way. Especially whilst young, I remind daily of the impact my words and actions have on my little ones. The impact on the 'imprint period' 0-7yrs monkey see, hear and do. Fill their buckets with good stuff we are setting up their frame of reference for the rest of their lives.
