12.01.2022 Each year on the 12th of May we celebrate International Nurses Day to recognise the invaluable contribution that nurses have made and continue to make in our so...ciety. This year the World Health Organisation declared 2020 the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwife’ and in light of the current worldwide health crisis we are especially thankful for the hard work, skills, and compassion that nurses provide. Nurses have played a vital role in Australia’s military history for more than 100 years. Today, both men and women serve as Australia’s military nurses working in remote and dangerous places, as well peacekeeping missions providing essential medical treatment to those ravaged by war or natural disasters. #IND2020 #InternationalNursesDay2020 You can read some of their stories and view images in our collection here: https://www.awm.gov.au/articl/blog/international-nurses-day Photo: At sea c.1919.
