25.01.2022 We support and appreciate the work of the Townsville Intercultural Centre Ltd. It is with thanks to our generous Enkindle community that we have been able to contribute food hampers in time for Christmas! Two of our Enkindlets were pleased to hand deliver the hampers this morning ... "I have found, that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver" - Maya Angelou

23.01.2022 Thank you Les Walker MP - Mundingburra for visiting Enkindle today! As a democratic school, with our very own student led parliament, we benefited greatly from discussions around the structure of a democratic government and the importance of a single vote We value our relationships with community leaders, and appreciate their investment in the next generation of leaders!

22.01.2022 Bruschetta Using our homegrown crops, the Enkindlet cooks created a delicious shared morning tea! The sense of achievement was palpable this morning, as was the tomato and onion under our feet! This real life learning is messy

22.01.2022 An interesting article on the difference between creativity and preservation and why both are crucial to society. We often hear from parents of our older students when they transfer from traditional schools that their once creative and bubbly child lost their spark at school. It’s then a challenging process to support these students into trusting their own voice again and encouraging them to express it in their work at Enkindle. ... But the challenge is well worth it and watching that spark reignite again and begin to grow is an amazing thing to witness! www.enkindleschool.qld.edu.au https://theconversation.com/what-creativity-really-is-and-w

22.01.2022 Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. Benjamin Franklin We will be taking a step back from posting to allow space for members with lived experiences of racial prejudice and discrimination to be heard. We have a responsibility as educators and parents to lead by example for the next generation. Now is the time to listen, to learn, and shape a better future together. ... #blacklivesmatter #amplifymelanatedvoices

21.01.2022 "And at the end of the day your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling." - Shanti Another glorious morning spent at forest school. This pair of Enkindlets chose to make moulds of their faces in the clay mud! What a cool result

20.01.2022 Little people with BIG voices!! 8 yr old Bodhi is passionate about banning cigarettes, both for health and environmental reasons. Today he received a response to his letter all the way from parliament. So proud of our Enkindle kids, ready to be the amazing leaders of the future.

20.01.2022 No Enkindlets were harmed during this session of hands on play! "The benefits of roughhousing extend well beyond just the physical. It can also lead to heightened social and emotional intelligence too. For one, kids can learn to differentiate between different facial expressions and body language." https://usplaycoalition.org/benefits-of-roughhousing-blog

18.01.2022 This is a great resource for parents who are having conversations with their children at the moment about racism.

16.01.2022 Happy holidays! We hope everyone is having a great break and we’re looking forward to hearing all about it. This is a great article, it highlights one of the main reasons our school exists. It’s so important to allow children the space to simply be themselves, after all isn’t that what life is all about? To be happy. www.enkindleschool.qld.edu.au

13.01.2022 Making Play-Doh! So much fun and allows for wonderful open ended curriculum questioning in a relaxed environment. We asked questions like: Can you predict what we need to add next to make Play-Doh? What colours make aqua? Which is heavier? Is there something you can make, something longer or shorter than another shape? Can you create a face to show how you feel? Thank you to our families for the donations coming in to school. We were able to make Play-Doh because of your generosity. www.enkindleschool.qld.edu.au

09.01.2022 Sir Ken Robinson PhD 1950 - 2020 Sir Ken Robinson PhD died peacefully, 21st August 2020, surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. 02.01.2022 A day in nature is a day well spent. Had the pleasure spending my Saturday in Innisfail learning from the lovely ladies from Wildlings Forest School. Whittling, using hand tools, sawing, making fires and cooking damper over the fire. So much fun and so many skills I can’t wait to teach to the Enkindlets. 01.01.2022 As term two comes to a close we wanted to take a moment to recognize our principal, Kiri Pearce. As a new school we have faced challenge after challenge, including a flood and a pandemic, and through it all Kiri has demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience, proving herself as a true leader. Kiri’s passion and dedication to the school, to guiding our teachers and students and to the larger goal of changing the face of education in North Queensland have been incredible ...to witness and we watch in awe as she paves the way with her egalitarian nature and embodiment of our school values in every aspect. We believe that it is because of these skills and attributes that she has been nominated in Australian Education Awards for Primary School Principal of the year (thank you to the anonymous person who nominated her, whoever you are!). Kiri, thank you for everything you do for our little school and for our students, you are incredible. www.enkindleschool.qld.edu.au
