Can't give away too much...but theres some new initiatives happening in NSW! Hopefully it will make difference! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUeqBYAmlfg

23.01.2022 Thank you wonderful people for making a speechie's job so fun! Quote for the night...

21.01.2022 Was just surfing the net and came across this video, its amazing how far medicine has come just in a span of a few years, I remember learning about auditory brainstem implant at Uni a few years back and how it wasn't yet approved or whether there was enough research. So happy to see that it has finally got a successful case!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDqN8TXx2Zo

17.01.2022 A really interesting read, this mum says that there is no finish line with autism but a marathon you have train everyday. Lots of parents question themselves if they are doing the right thing or what they are doing is in the best interest of the child or for them. Rest assured, you have to have faith that you made the best decision at that time.

15.01.2022 Such an interesting talk! The relationship between speech and feeding is really important so it's good to finally see the exposure on such a mainstream platform! Great to see the speech pathology professional becoming more recognised!!!

13.01.2022 Truely amazing. For years, I've disliked the fact that the computer generated voices on the AACs have been so generic and disconnected with what the clients voice sounds like. The smile on this boy's face is priceless. The smiles and laughter I hear and hear when a voice is generated from an AAC is something that makes me want to wake up and go to work everyday. Appreciate so much how much technology has progressed to and thank you to all those who have donated your voice! Thank you!!!!

12.01.2022 Look what we found! Never seen so many colours...

10.01.2022 Was just talking about this with a friend of mine, the importance of providing support to the young minds in youth detention. They need to have skills such as reading, expressing how they feel or even just recognising how they are feeling in order to function in society and not continually go back into that isolated environment!!!!

08.01.2022 Happy Speech Pathology Week! According to Speech Pathology Australia, there are: "Three in every 1,000 newborns have hearing loss, which without intervention can affect their speech, language and literacy. Around 13,000 Australians use electronic communication aids to get their message across, while 20 per cent of four year olds have difficulty understanding or using language. At least 30 per cent of people post-stroke suffer loss of language, with 85 per cent of those with Parkinson’s disease having voice, speech and/or swallowing difficulties." Let's have a moment about the 1.1 million people who have a communication or swallowing disorder.

04.01.2022 AAC also known as alternative augmented communication device is a great way for children and adults to use as a communication device when verbal speech is difficult. However, it can be hard to a classroom teacher to implement when they have other kids who also need their attention. This article is a great example of some simple and easy ways to implement the device naturally for both the child and the teacher! http://blog.asha.org//tips-to-help-teachers-incorporate-a/

02.01.2022 It's great to see the initiative here! Sesame Street introduces a new character, Julia who has Autism. They have definitely done a great job with introducing some of the differences that can be seen with people with Autism and its great how they are trying to raise as much awareness as possible! Its a great read to your friends/kids/family! http://autism.sesamestreet.org/storybook-we-are-amazing/
