24.01.2022 Kriv Stenders' award-winning documentary "The Go-Betweens: Right Here" will be airing at 9:30 p.m. on November 21st on ABC as part of their Artsville programming series!

16.01.2022 Recently members of the public were requested to email the National Gallery of Victoria at [email protected] if they have any information on missing artworks by Joseph Szabo associated with their 1968 exhibition 'The Field'. Ensemble fine art was thrilled today to find a somewhat dusty but great work by this artist. Unfortunately for the NGV it was painted 1971-2 when Joseph had moved on from his Colour Field Abstract period embracing Abstract Expressionism. Some es...tablishment critics at the time were concerned with his move to become Joe the dripper. Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam however had an eye for that genre and created a political and media scandal when he purchased Jackson Pollacks Blue Poles for A$1.3 million in 1973. Many conservatives saw the purchase as a great example of the financial ineptitude of the Labor government. Blue Poles nevertheless has become one of the most popular art exhibits in Australia and the world - estimates of its present value vary from $100 to $350 million. We hope Joseph Szabos painting finds such love. See more

16.01.2022 Hello Facebook! Pictured is me (Simon) at the door of my new small business and gallery located in Greville Street, Prahran. The space is very small, but has large windows enabling passers-by to view a range of artworks hung from ceiling to floor. People window-shop 24/7. A price list is displayed in the front window and we have a website (ensemblefineart.com.au) built by my son James (thanks!), which has further details on the artwork.... I find artworks on the secondary market. Working as an art detective, I buy undervalued work - such as where the signatures covered up, the provenance and history is vague, the art is badly framed, the art requires some restoration etc. I search for paintings from artists born post-war (baby boomers) with a solid exhibition history and are represented in a state or regional collection. My passion is to bring new life to these works, both by restoring them, but also by researching the history behind the work and the artist. My first customers have loved hearing stories about the works, and I hope in the future you will too. Simon

15.01.2022 Create your own story from Matthew Quicks masterful moody cloud-filled skyscape. The title ('Pure Voyeurism') and foreground object (car door lock) provide a trigger to open yours and others imagination.

13.01.2022 Patrick Henigan, 'Self-Portrait' 1980. WOW...what a statement about the intense and physical process of producing a painting and 'being what you do'

10.01.2022 rent-to-try At ensemble fine art, we want you to be certain you love the artwork you purchase. Living with an artwork in your home is a great way for you to see how the artwork works for you. To help you, we offer a rent-to-try option. At a modest 10% of the purchase price, you can live with the artwork for a three-month period. If at any time you decide to purchase the work, we will refund some or all of the rental price. Should you need more time, you can extend. We hope that our rent-to-try option will give you more confidence in purchasing an artwork for your home.

08.01.2022 as the suns sets (and the glass empties) for the old master, a new light shines on a young player. Brian Dunlop (1938-2009) 'Greek musicians (Skyros)' c.1967

04.01.2022 Featured this week is an intimate and memorable painting by Geoffrey Dupree. An innocent and absolutely private phone-call seems fraught with disquieting complications. Dramatically lit, the painting captures a melancholic story of modern city life: its endless possibilities and inevitable failures for human connection.

03.01.2022 With considerable intelligence and imagination, David Keeling's paintings image what a particular world may look like if something is not done today." Cary Catalano, The Age
