24.01.2022 Question of the Day: Do I need a referral to see an ENT Specialist? MEDICAL CONSULTATION: when visiting a specialist for a medical reason, a current and valid referral is required. This enables the referring doctor, usually your general practitioner, to outline the reason for the referral, ensuring proper management of your medical concern. A referral will also allow you to claim back any rebates from Medicare following your consultation. COSMETIC CONSULTATION: for a cosmet...ic consultation, a referral is not required but if you have one, then the cost of your consultation may be rebatable. A referral will also be required in order to involve your private health fund to rebate some of the costs of surgery. If you have any queries, our team is happy to assist you.
