25.01.2022 Hydrotherapy, also known as aquatic therapy is a safe and low impact form of rehabilitation. It is exercise conducted in a heated pool, with the guidance of an Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy is a great way to regain range of motion as well as improve strength. The buoyancy of the water reduces the impact of the exercise, as well as the weight going through your joints, allowing you to do more exercise with a lower level of pain compared to land base...d exercise. Your Physio or Exercise Physiologist will be in the pool with you for all of your sessions. Hydrotherapy is a wonderful way to get moving and improve strength and mobility for many different conditions. Here are just a few: Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis Injuries where weight-bearing is uncomfortable Pre-surgery strengthening Post-surgery rehabilitation Improving balance for those with a high-risk of falls Paediatric developmental delay and neurological conditions Stroke rehabilitation Plus many more! If you would like to find out more about our hydrotherapy service, call us today on 8682 6665 or contact us via Facebook or Instagram.

24.01.2022 Exercise in the treatment for Cancer Patients. In years gone by, the advice given to people who were diagnosed with cancer was to rest and avoid physical activity. However, that advice is now outdated, and the focus has shifted towards using exercise during and post treatment for cancer patients. For every ten people diagnosed with cancer, only one of these will exercise enough both during and after their treatment. ... There are numerous ways in which exercise can be of benefit for someone with cancer. Some examples include: Minimising the physical decline caused by cancer Reducing cancer-related fatigue Allowing a greater tolerance to more aggressive treatments Improving both mental health and quality of life Reducing cancer-related fatigue and other side-effects from cancer treatment These are just a few of the many benefits experienced from exercise. Check out this TED talk, it will provide you with a greater insight to the benefits regular exercise can have for a person diagnosed with cancer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIQh4fUZkJs It is important that the exercise you are doing is right for you and tailored for the individual. At EP Physio Plus we have Exercise Physiologists with the knowledge to guide you in the right direction to exercise pre, during and post cancer treatment. Call us today on 8682 6665 to book your appointment, or book online https://epphysioplus.com/schedule-an-appointment/

Sessions are run in the Hydrotherapy Pool at the Port Lincoln Leisure Centre, at 2 Jubilee Drive. ... Your Physio or Exercise Physiologist will be in the pool with you for all of your sessions. They will demonstrate different exercises for you to do in the water that can help with strengthening and increasing range of movement. They will be able to correct your technique and make any modifications with you while you are doing every exercise. 11.01.2022 Fishing, a preferred hobby that many of us here on the Eyre Peninsula partake in most of the year, especially in summer. With the warm weather coming, the fishing also starts to heat up! Here are 2 common fishermen injuries or aliments we see at EP Physio Plus: ... 1. Lower back pain is a common complaint of fishermen and no this isn’t usually from winding in that 30Kg tuna we all dream of catching. Whether you are anchored off a nice calm farm beach fishing spot or getting in or out of your boat, the back can be placed under tension in one way or the other. The most common stress on the back when fishing is an extension load. Standing, walking and running are all extension based activities, whereas sitting or bending down are flexion activities. Our Physiotherapists can guide you in making lifestyle and ergonomic changes to improve the flexion / extension balance of your lumbar spine. We are researching for some evidence that shows Fishing more and Working less improves your back health but we are struggling to find it! 2. SubAcromial Pain, the tendons of the rotator cuff muscles which provide stability of the shoulder through its range of motion can become fatigued. Due to the nature of the casting motion, the shoulder goes under a fair amount of stress. This overuse leads to irritation of the tendons and sensitivity of the sub acromial space. Our Physiotherapists treat shoulder injuries regularly and our goals of treatment are to reduce pain and inflammation. We are also big fans of education, and really see the benefits of empowering you to be actively involved in your recovery. We commonly prescribed exercises and stretching techniques for you to do at home or on the boat. We can also assess the ergonomics of your casting technique and consider rod weight and load management of your casting. Remember practice makes perfect. We would love to help you keep reeling in those fish, so call us today on 8682 6665 to book your appointment!

It also assists in delaying or eliminating t...he onset of disability, dependence and chronic disease. Exercise also plays a large factor in reducing their risk of falls. During this class we perform both upper and lower body exercises to help build strength throughout the body. These exercises are generally performed from a seated position and are specifically chosen to allow for all participants capabilities. Classes run for 30 minutes and have limited spots available to allow for appropriate supervision. As well as the benefits of engaging in exercise it is also a great chance for participants to get out of the house for some social interaction and mingle in the community. Classes are aimed to be enjoyable and fun which is great for mental health! If you believe you know someone or have a family member who would benefit from this class please give us a call on 8682 6665 for more information or to make a booking.
10.01.2022 What better time than Womens Health Week to give you a friendly reminder for you ladies (and men!) out there to do your Pelvic Floor exercises. 03.01.2022 The best Christmas present you can give yourself and your family is; Your Health. Physiotherapists see many common musculoskeletal conditions occurring over the Christmas break as people tend to push their bodies. Whether it’s spraining your ankle in high heels at a Christmas party, an injury from an intense run along the beach after months of inactivity, or Low back pain from driving for long distances or sitting on the couch watching the Boxing Day Test, there are a range ...of injuries that commonly occur during the holidays. In order to enjoy a healthy and injury-free holiday, we encourage you to focus on your health, both physically and mentally. Our Tips: The holiday season can be a time where many Australians spend lying on the couch recovering from a large Christmas lunch or spent driving long distances to holiday destinations. Avoid sitting in one spot for more than 30 minutes without a short break. Get up and move about for at least two minutes every 20-30 minutes. Regular changes in posture have been shown to improve comfort and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Another great option to stay active is to buy gifts that encourage physical activity. Get active. Getting a little more physical activity into your day doesn’t have to be a chore. Dust off the bicycles and go for a ride, plan a bushwalk or simply limit your couch time, get up and get moving. If unsure what physical activity is right for you or your child’s age and experience, our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists can assess physical and motor development and suggest appropriate options. Back injuries caused by lifting the tree, frequently climbing ladders and lifting various heavy objects, as is common with Christmas decorating and un-decorating. Have a lifting partner to ensure that the significant weight of the tree and other heavy objects is properly and evenly distributed between multiple people. If you would like some advice on how to prevent injuries this holiday season call us today on 8682 6665 or book online at www.epphysioplus.com to book your appointment with one of our clinicians.
