If you want to know more, give us a call (08) 8971 0027

24.01.2022 ROYAL COMMISH EDISH (Royal Commission Edition) Did YOU know the Disability Royal Commission look at LOTS of different spaces where people with disability might experience abuse, neglect, violence or exploitation? Their focus at the moment is psychotropic medication. It's just a fancy way of saying medication that affects your mood or emotions. ... Sadly, this kind of medication has been overused in the past to control the behaviour of people with disability. If you want to make a submission to the Royal Commission, need to chat or want to find out more please give us a call (08) 8971 0027

21.01.2022 WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING ABOUT US? I like coming to NTFS because it is fun.... I do some work with Joe and get to go to Bark and Bath for some jobs with the animals, and THEN get to pat them at the end. I also have a T-shirt I wear which makes me feel cool - BIG THUMB’S UP!!!! -Tyler

20.01.2022 GET AROUND STAFF PROFILE DAY! Next up is Ashish (aka, Ash).... Bio: Hi, my name is Ashish Raj Jamarkattel, I know it's a long name and hard to pronounce, so my colleagues call me Ash instead. I was born and brought up in Nepal; it is a small piece of heaven on earth located in the Himalayan range. FYI, this is the country of Mt Everest and where Lord Buddha was born. I came to Australia in 2016 and studied Masters of Accounting and Business Administration in Sydney before mov...ing to NT, Katherine recently. I am in love with NT; it feels like flat land of Nepal, and Katherine looks like the town where I was born. What's your role: I am a corporate services Manager in Katherine Office Yeah, but what does that mean: My role is to manage the Corporate Services team- that includes Finance, HR, Asset Management, Quality assurance and Admin. I also liaise with the higher management in making operational as well as financial budgets and decisions. My other job as CS Manager is to give administrative support to the programs in NTFS. What's the best thing about it? The best thing about my role is that I know about how every program works and have coordinated with staff within various programs and worked alongside them to make their processes smooth. Also, working in Corporate Services is exciting as no two days are the same. So I have a lot of new learning experiences. What is the biggest challenge? When you are working with multiple programs and multiple departments, sometimes you take a lot of work in your hands with tight deadlines. What do you do when you're not working? Currently, when I am not working, I am studying as I am preparing for CPA. Otherwise, I am a big foodie and I like cooking, travelling and watching movies on my free time.

18.01.2022 Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia, and discrimination against intersex people. The date of May 17 was specifically chosen... to commemorate the World Health Organisation’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. May 17 is now celebrated in more than 130 countries, including 37 where same-sex acts are illegal. It’s also important to acknowledge the historic milestone that took place last year when WHO announced that being transgender would not longer be classified as a mental disorder. Despite this, laws around Australia continue to require surgery and medical treatment in order for trans people to recognised legally as the gender they live as. The journey to ‘de-pathologise’ the experiences of intersex people continues today. To all of you celebrating loudly and to all of you who can’t we see you, we support you, and we’ll always fight for you. To find out more about IDAHOBIT and activities happening around the world visit www.may17.org

12.01.2022 WHAT ARE OUR PARTICIPANTS SAYING ABOUT US? NTFS and EqualiTEA has changed my life previously I felt I wasn’t able to contribute to ‘anything’ and now I feel like I am part of a great group of people who are really keen to see me succeed. I highly recommend anyone to come and see the AMAZING Alice Springs team and what they have to offer.... - Sandy

12.01.2022 STAFF PROFILE DAY! Meet our newest COS, Donna! Donna grew up in Adelaide, but has been in Alice for 34 years. Does that make her a local yet?!? Originally she only came to Alice for 2 weeks whilst on a uni break. Like many of us, she fell in love with everything about the Alice- and a certain man she met the day she got here (spoiler alert- she married him and never left!) ... What is your role? I am a NDIS Support Coordinator. Yeah, but what does that mean? I work with a great Team supporting participants to utilise their NDIS Plan in the best possible way, that enables them to reach their goals and grow in capacity. What is the best thing about it? Watching people grow, reach their goals and have control over their life choices. What's the biggest challenge? Navigating the ever changing NDIS process. What do you do when you're not at work? I love to camp and kayak in our amazing waterholes nearby, go for motor bike rides with my hubby, relaxing in the sunshine chilling with my grandbaby and my dogs

What's your role: ...EqualiTEA Team Leader for Alice Springs Yeah, but what does that mean: I work with staff and participants to ensure each participant gets the best possible support and opportunities to reach their goals. What's the best thing about it: Meeting AMAZING participants and watching them grow and gain confidence. Knowing that you are supporting them to be the BEST version of themselves. What's the biggest challenge: Being new to the disability sector I find learning all the ‘lingo’ and how all the moving pieces (support services) work together. What do you do when you're not working: I love camping with my husband Brendan and just being with nature, it keeps me grounded and balanced. I have a new found love of baking and trying to ‘fatten-up’ my work colleagues I am succeeding!!!

11.01.2022 WHAT ARE OUR PARTICIPANTS SAYING ABOUT US? My personal road was bumpy and windy, but here at NTFS they have let me express myself, and I have showed them whom I can really be which has helped me blossom into a Japanese cherry blossom. - Ben

11.01.2022 We've been hard at work on our disability awareness training. A KEY part of the training is dispelling commons myths about disability... And believe us, there's heaps! Here Ben takes us through why all people with disability are not the same, but incredibly UNIQUE

05.01.2022 On this day in 1997, the landmark Bringing Them Home Report was tabled in the Federal Parliament and the first National Sorry Day was held in 1998. National S...orry Day is a day for our nation to acknowledge the historical mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. To feel remorse for past actions, to understand the heartbreak still felt today, and to dedicate ourselves to stopping it from happening again. See more
