21.01.2022 Today marks the end of Term 4. In what has been an eventful year full of the unexpected and abnormal, today the men of Eddies sat together for a Christmas litu...rgy to farewell the end of the term, a return to normality for the St Edmund’s calendar. As well as farewelling the end of the year, St Edmund’s farewells our longstanding staff members, Ms Anne Mulkerin, Ms Di Denman, Ms Vanessa Bell, Mr Dave Gagen and Mr Nic Aldridge; names that have become synonymous with St Edmund’s, most notably Ms Mulkerin and Ms Denman who has served on staff for 43 years. We wish all our departing staff best of luck in the next stages of their life. We wish the St Edmund’s Community a happy and restful break and we will see you all in Term 1, 2021!

17.01.2022 On 30th November 2020 Ruben Centre Director Br. Frank had his last monthly Centre meeting. The meeting that usually has key program staff and their leaders was ...a unique (for the staff members) one. As is tradition, the meetings take place on Thursday from 2:30 PM. This time round though the meeting started from 10:30 AM to a few minutes past noon. The meeting was unique and special. The incoming Director, Mr. Makau, was in attendance and got a feel of how things go in such meetings. He also got to see firsthand how Br. Frank interacted with the program leaders. Also in attendance was Bev Watkinson, via Zoom. Bev graced the meeting to oversee how the strenuous but worthwhile new Strategic Plan unveiling went down. With only a sneak peak given to the attending members, there was a feel of excitement, joy and relief among them. It had been a long 7 months of data collection and compilation and indeed the hard work was not in vain. The Strategic Plan will be officially unveiled in a week’s time from the time of the meeting in a retreat for the attending members and the new Director. Br. Frank seemed happy with himself and kept nudging to every person to take the plan as their own and embrace it. He echoed the words of Mr. Makau and said the plan was perfect and did not need a BBI. It has indeed been a long year and the sight of things shaping just as we edge towards the last month is hope that the new Strategic Plan will bring prosperity to the organization despite the dynamic shifts. Ruben Centre once again congratulates every stake holder involved in the planning and conceiving the plan. May all your efforts turn into blessings. See more

16.01.2022 Last week the final College Assembly for the year took place, recognising Academic Electives, the remarkable achievements of the Trinity College Environmental C...ommittee and the Spirit of Stewardship. In his final Principal's address for 2020, Mr Darren O'Neill thanked all students who, throughout this difficult and different year, have been understanding, resilient and generously gave their time and talent. As our students begin to depart, we hope that they all enjoy a much deserved holiday break with family and friends.

07.01.2022 It is a crime to force children to work which could be physically and mentally harmful for their health. A child under the age of 14 should by no means have to ...work! Child labour snatches away a child’s time to study and understand the world and replaces it with dangerous tasks. Come, let us join hands together and display unity against child labour and punish the abusers to help end this violence! #EndingViolenceAgainstChildren #StopChildLabour #SpeakUp See more

06.01.2022 This term an ambitious and determined cohort of Year 11s began their uniPATH journey by completing the Research Methods and Skills unit at The University of Not...re Dame Australia. Whilst the unit was designed to have a skills focus to prepare students for their uniPATH pathways either at Notre Dame or UWA, students used the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a basis for a presentation delivered on campus at Fremantle and the submission of their final project. Under the guidance of Richard King, lecturer, journalist and author, a highlight of the unit were the 10 minute presentations prepared and delivered by the students today. All of the presentations were exceptional in their quality. As a snapshot of the 19 presentations, some of the goals discussed included: Michael O’Sullivan - Gender Equality and empowerment of all women and girls. Michael framed the international importance of empowering a greater percentage of women in strategic decision making positions in significant economic, political and public settings. Jacob White - Deforestation and Land Degradation in Brazil. Jacob articulated the reasons behind the lack of progress under Brazil’s current leader Jair Bolsonaro’s towards eliminating the rate of deforestation in Brazil by 2020. He explained the optimistic outlook associated with the recent United States election result to potentially amend the recent approach towards this important goal. Alec Jorgensen - Conserve and Sustainably use the Oceans, Sea and Marine Resources for Sustainable Development. Whilst addressing the ecological, environmental and economical impact of our engagement with the worlds marine environments, interestingly Alec explored the potential benefits of reduced human activity associated by behavioural changes to defend against COVID-19 on global and local CO2 and ocean acidification. This uniPATH enrichment opportunity stretched these young men to grow in a supportive tertiary environment, helping them to reimagine their boundaries and the possibilities that are available to them. As a College, we are so proud of this cohort of students. They have demonstrated intellect, determination and maturity well beyond their years.

03.01.2022 Today, and every day, we celebrate black excellence, Martin Luther King Jr. and his message. Peace and love to all of God’s creation. Most gracious and all wi...se God, before whose face the generations rise and fall; Thou in who we live, and move, and have our being. We thank thee (for) all of thy good and gracious gifts, for life, and for health; for food and for raiment; for the beauties of nature and human nature. We come before thee painfully aware of our inadequacies and shortcomings. We realize that we stand surrounded with the mountains of love and we deliberately dwell in the valley of hate. We stand amid the forces of truth and deliberately lie. We are forever offered the high road and yet we choose to travel the low road. For these sins O God forgive. Break the spell of that which blinds our minds. Purify our hearts that we may see thee. O God in these turbulent days, when fear and doubt are mounting high give us broad visions, penetrating eyes, and power of endurance. Help us to work with renewed vigor for a warless world, for a better distribution of wealth and for a brotherhood that transcends race or color. In the name and spirit of Jesus we pray. Amen. - Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. September 6, 1953
