20.01.2022 Alkaline diets.... can anyone say SHAM?! That's spelt S-H-A-M. You can't eat alkaline foods and make your body more alkaline. It takes severe disruption to homeostasis (see below) for your body to become alkaline. ... Don't follow alkaline diets. (ps - please don't vomit or hyperventilate either)

18.01.2022 I absolutely love this book. It debunks so many myths!! First of all, I didn't know Gwyneth Paltrow had a company called Goop and sold diet/detox stuff. It's also superrrrr expensive stuff. She also has noooooo science or dietetic qualifications. So it seems true that if you are famous, you really CAN do anything you want. Whether it's ethical or not? - Doesn't seem to matter. Here's a great excerpt from the book: ‘There is no evidence that the products and diets sol...d by the cleansing industry whether juices, supplements or specific diet regimens do anything to help clear toxins, parasites, or bad karma in a manner beneficial to our health. There does not appear to be even a single scientific study to back up the theory behind this massive industry. (OK, I found one study, published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, which involved seven individuals and no comparison group. The methods are so poor that I am not sure it qualifies as a study.) The British Broadcasting Company did a fun and somewhat scientific-ish experiment involving ten ‘party animal’ young adults. Five got a balanced diet that included, in moderation, stuff usually viewed as ‘toxic triggers’ (eg chocolate), and five were put on a detox regimen. After a week they ran a bunch of tests, including testing for anti-oxidants and kidney and liver function. The result? No difference. The detoxing didn’t do anything.’ - IS GWYNETH PALTROW WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING? - by Timothy Caulfield (My answer to the question of whether she is wrong about everything? - Well, not sure about everything, but she's certainly wrong about detoxes and cleanses).
