22.01.2022 Gustav Weindorfer 88th Memorial Commemoration

18.01.2022 The Weindorfer Memorial Committee usually marks the commemoration of Gustav Weindorfer with a full day event at Wilmot, TAS we call ‘Base Camp of Cradle Mount...ain’ This year living with a fatal virus similar to the one Gustav and Kate would have experience in 1918, we find yourselves isolated. Hence during this period, the Weindorfer Memorial Committee featuring ‘The Mountain Choir’ is presenting a short film to commemorate Gustav Weindorfer and his legacy. The short film will be available on YouTube after midday today so followers can share and enjoy the images, music and story. The Inspiration - On the 5th of May 1932, 88 years ago, a man with a vision, passed away in a place he came to call home and built his chalet- Walheim at Cradle Mountain - a place where there is no time and nothing matters Gustav Weindorfer and his wife Kate had a vision and passion to preserve and learn about nature and in the Cradle Mountain area, they found their ‘veritable El Dorado for the botanist’. Kate wrote in an article ‘.even the most ardent botanist or geologist must pause to admire it, with that silent outreach of the soul towards eternal beauty’ The inspiration of Gustav, Kate and friends is recognised today by the many thousand visitors from all over the world to the UNESCO Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair Natural Park. This must be a National Park for all the people for all time. It is magnificent, and people must know about it and enjoy it declared Gustav Weindorfer After the Virus - Next year the committee will be organising on the first Sunday in May, the annual Memorial Day at Wilmot, TAS and appreciate your support in keeping the vision alive.
