25.01.2022 Another Big Weekend for Cumberland Zone Crews as essential training continues. In Glenbrook our Remote Area Firefighting Team have re-certified in Helicopter I...nsertion Techniques (HIT). HIT enables crews to do critical work in otherwise inaccessible terrain. Meanwhile in Wallacia we've been teaching crews 'tree fell intermediate' (read: loud noisy chainsaw work ) and in Regentville crews progressing on the Advanced Firefighter continuum undertook their Navigation course. A significant amount of time and energy by our volunteers to keep these programs running is critical but also timely. In the Northern part of the state, six Local Government Areas commenced their bushfire season today and it's only 8 weeks away for us. As we continue growing our capability and prepare for the bushfire season, have a think about how ready you and your property will be for the upcoming danger period. 12.01.2022 Good luck to the Mamre Cadets in the state championships this Saturday.

11.01.2022 We had a busy start to the day yesterday. At 08:45 we where responded to a fire on Mamre rd. This was a pile burn that met council regulations but was extinguished before we arrived on site. Then when we where about to head home we where called to a vehicle fire on the M4. Ourselves and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 102 Regentville extinguished the vehicle.

11.01.2022 It’s not just fire calls we attend. Today ourselves and Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade where called to help a kitten stuck behind a hot water system.

11.01.2022 In the last 24 hours, Erskine Park RFB members have been working exremely hard in terrible weather conditions. At 19:00pm last night the decision was made to remove the vehicles from our station due to the risk of flooding. In the space of half an hour, water started to cross Luddenham Road and became dangerous for vehicles to travel through, with the assistance of NSW Police and Penrith Council, Luddenham Road was closed with both Erskine Park RFB trucks placed either side... of the water to block traffic. After a barricade was set up members retuned to station to dry off when we were informed of a vehicle stuck in the flood waters with 4 occupants inside. Members acted quickly in assisting the occupants from their vehicle to a safe location. This should serve as a reminder not to drive through flood waters - if it’s flooded, forget it! At 01:30am we were alerted of a structure fire on Mamre Road. On arrival members found 2 vacant homes well alight (pictured below). Our crews left the fire scene at 05:30 this morning and returned to the station 09:00 to survey any damage from the flood waters. Thankfully this time the flood waters did not enter the station. Crews carried out vehicle maintence and restocked the vehicles ready for the next incident.

08.01.2022 Stay safe this June Long Weekend. Reminder for all residents who live within the Blacktown City Council and Fairfield City Council local government areas - t...hese areas have a strict NO BURN policy. This means that all pile burning is classed as illegal and these kind of fires may be investigated if the NSW RFS attends. However, all residents within the Penrith City Council area who live on a rural zoned property (suburbs listed in the link below) greater than 4000 sq meters can undertake pile burning on their property during the day (08:00am-06:00pm) . Please ensure you adhere to the regulations listed here on the Penrith City Council Website and notify your neighbours plus the Cumberland Zone Rural Fire Service on 02 4734 7788 at least 24 hours before you light that fire . If the NSW RFS attends your property and the conditions listed within this link aren't followed, further investigations may be undertaken. https://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au//notice_of_approval_to_ Note: small recreational fires such as a small camp fire used for heating or cooking are allowed in all three council areas but must smaller than 1x1x1m and can only burn dry, seasoned timber (e.g. bought dry fire wood). A responsible adult must be in attendance at all times with a suitable water source (e.g. Garden hose). : Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade DC 2 #NSWRFS

05.01.2022 Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, has announced Rob Rogers as the new Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service. Commissioner Rogers h...as been acting in the role following the departure of Shane Fitzsimmons in May. Following a competitive recruitment process, Rob has been appointed to the role to see the Service through the next season and beyond. I’m excited by the opportunity but also very mindful of the challenges ahead, especially after last season’s terrible conditions. I look forward to continuing on the path we have set over the past few months like our priorities which focus on our volunteers and community the things that matter most like improving the way we respond to incidents, and the trucks and equipment that our members use. The NSW RFS is an organisation that has been a part of my life for a very long time and I’m looking forward to continuing to build it and support its members into the future. See more
