25.01.2022 EBC Suspends Winter Training and Season Due to Covid-19 Precautions Dear Members, We hope you are all well.... Given the latest Victorian Government announcements regarding the spike in COVID-19 numbers and postcode lockdowns, the Essendon Baseball Club have made the difficult, but responsible decision to pause existing Junior and Senior winter training at Boeing Reserve, and to no longer enter teams in the upcoming MWBL winter season. This decision has been made based on the following: A large number of our members live in the suburbs that will be locked down from midnight tonight. Members who reside in the listed postcodes will be unable to attend training and this would have seriously impacted our ability to field teams. At all times the safety of our members is our priority, and it is felt that we had a duty of care to suspend training and participation in competition as we could not realistically guarantee coach and player safety. The increase in COVID-19 cases is of overall concern to the community and other local organisations such as the EDFL have also cancelled their seasons for these reasons. Training, Junior & Senior, has been underway over the last few weeks and we know that our families will be disappointed, however, we anticipate that we would have your understanding and support for this decision. Once we have the go ahead, we will ensure that training will re-commence and we will focus on working towards a healthy summer and future seasons. 25.01.2022 Tryouts for the 2021 National Showcase Series Victoria will begin at the end of this month and interested Under 16 and Under 18 players are encouraged to register. Dates and times for the try outs at Melbourne Ballpark are as follows: Under 18... Saturday, 28 November 9.00 am 5.00pm Monday, 30 November 6.00pm 9.00pm Tryout enrolment to close Wednesday, 25 November Under 16 Sunday, 29 November 1.00pm 6.00pm Saturday, 5 December 1.00pm 6.00pm Saturday, 12 December (if required) 1.00pm to 6.00pm Tryout enrolment to close Tuesday, 1st December Specific session times will be provided after enrolment closes. As the replacement for the cancelled 2021 Australian Youth Championship, the National Showcase Series Victoria will consist of a local showcase and underage tournament to ensure athletes still receive extensive high performance and development opportunities as well as exposure to college and professional scouts. The local showcase will be used for data collection and scouting purposes followed by a seven-game tournament between two teams in both the Under 16 and Under 18 age brackets. T-shirts, uniforms, caps and water bottles will be provided as part of the showcase. 21.01.2022 Hi All, Seniors & Juniors. Kerry Kline (uniform Coordinator) has advised me she will be down at training session on Monday night (Women's) I6th of Nov. If you need to check sizing etc, perfect time to do so. She will also be attending Junior & Seniors training on Tues, as well as training on Thursday night. So I urge all that need to order things like undershirt and playing top to be there on one or the other of the nights. She will be also supply the other items ordered. 21.01.2022 With the 2021 college season for Christian Caminiti soon approaching. He will be continuing his baseball journey at Providence Christian College. They have launched a fundraising campaign to help with the coming season. If you can support Christian in his baseball journey, any donation to the program is appreciated!

19.01.2022 Message from the President Dear member, as you know the season will be upon us in the next few weeks We have a lot of work to do to get our magnificent facilities in order Over the weekend, Rick, Peter, myself and Luke will be at the field to:... Sat: Clean up all the weeds for preparation of the bullpens General tidy up of the warning tracks and diamond 2 Clean outside of rooms Help Luke get the gym cleaned up, rubber matts down and if possible, putting equipment in Diamond 2 clean up Sunday: We have a bobcat and driver coming to build bullpens and level ground etc Any other unfinished jobs Obviously we have trainings and a Come and try day on but we will work around them and also we will have to adhere to Covid protocols Please come for an hour or 4 or all day if you can to do what you can to help , a whipper snipper if you have one will be handy. See you then its all coming together

16.01.2022 Two club legends have turned 70 this year. John "Choppa" Pate reached the mark in April this year. I'm happy to announce that today, (20/08/20), is Garry "Bitty" Bitmead's big day. To have 2 such high profile EBC members, whom I believe started playing in the same A Grade 3rds team in 1963 at the tender ages of 13, reach the big 70 in the same year and whats even more remarkable is that they are both still heavily involved in the sport.... On behalf of all at EBC and the wider Baseball Community, Happy Birthday Garry "Bitty" Bitmead. Life Member & Hall of Fame Member and all-round Legend of not only EBC but also of the wider Victorian Baseball Community.

Speaking with the lady today there has never been a more important time for people needing help than now. She was almost in tears to know we want to keep supporting. ... 13.01.2022 We are saddened to learn that Henry Gardner (Chook or just H) passed away last week. Father of Jason, father-in-law of Sally-Anne and much loved Pop of Caidan and Xavier. Henry came to love baseball after his grandsons started playing and rarely missed watching one of them play. He also came along to watch Jason play when he started, including many Monday night Masters games. He will be missed not just by his family but also by his baseball mates. Vale H.

05.01.2022 Further Works on the grounds On Sunday there will be works going on to build bullpens, lay down crushed rock and a Bobcat and driver have been organised. If you have any planks, sleepers or the like that can be used to help build the sides of the bullpens that you can donate please drop off prior Sunday. Example shown below.... If you have building skills and would like to donate your time the guys will be there from 8am onwards on Sunday the 29th.
