23.01.2022 Essence of Health - 6 Day Closure In accordance with current South Australian COVID-19 restrictions, please be advised that allied health services will not be permitted to remain open in the 6 day ‘Circuit Breaker’ closure commencing tomorrow 12.01am Thursday 19th November 2020. Essence of Health will therefore be temporarily closed for the 6 days, understanding such strict measures are needed for our community safety and aiming to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our state. ... We have been informed that after the 6 day stay at home lockdown, there will be a further 8 days of reduced restrictions. At this stage we are unaware if allied health services will be exempt, and understand any relaxing of restricting will be dependant on the success of controlling a potential outbreak. Whist we all wait for further information and updates in relation to this, know that from Wednesday 25th of November all appointments remain and the clinic hopes to reopen, unless we are advised otherwise. Within the coming days we will all be better informed of when the reopening of health services will be permitted and in such event we will be in contact ASAP to reschedule your appointment. We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you in the clinic soon. Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe Team @ Essence of Health

22.01.2022 SO relieved and excited to be back on Monday! My thoughts in the past few days have been with all my IVF, fertility and pregnant patients who have been anxious about ceasing treatment, and not knowing when treatments would resume again. For many on this journey one more obstacle or hurdle is the last thing you need, let alone when it’s something so far out of expectation. I’m so glad what we were expecting didn’t eventuate and we can all move forward just as quickly as we took time to pause ...... From myself and the team at Essence of Health we look forward to seeing you next week! Sandra Sapio x

22.01.2022 Sleep is very important for health and wellbeing. In fact it’s just as important as healthy eating and exercise! Unfortunately, getting enough quality sleep is an issue for many, especially women, due to factors such as stress, anxiety, pain, gut issues, children’s sleep patterns and work schedules. If you say yes to one or more of the following, your sleep pattern may need a reset: It takes 30 minutes or more to fall asleep... You wake more than once per night You wake for more than 20 minutes a time You wake up unrefreshed You need coffee, other caffeinated beverages and sugar to get through the day What can you do to reset your sleep pattern? Establish a sleep routine try going to bed and waking up at the same time each day Create a relaxing pre-sleep ritual journal, meditate, breathe, stretch Avoid screens 30 minutes before bed bluelight interferes with the sleep hormone melatonin If you don’t fall asleep within 20 minutes, get up and do something else (make sure it’s really boring!!) to try and induce sleepiness Address any underlying health concerns for example pain, digestive issues, stress and anxiety that may be making sleeping difficult Support quality sleep with nutrients like magnesium, herbs and acupuncture

19.01.2022 Having trouble with your hormones? Apart from diet, fixing any nutrient deficiencies and using modalities like acupuncture, it is important to look at what products you are using. Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, otherwise known as EDC’s, are generally man made materials that can affect our hormones - reducing or stopping their release by mimicking their function and competing with hormones at our cell receptors. EDC’s are found in personal care products, cleaning products, f...ood and plastics. If you are trying to balance your hormones, be sure to check your products, and try to switch them for healthier options!

18.01.2022 Did you get told that a ‘normal cycle’ is 28 days and you ovulate on day 14? We’re all different and this means there is a wide range of what is considered ‘normal’. A normal cycle is between 21 and 35 days. ... Polymenorrhea is the medical term used to describe cycles less than 21 days. Oligomenorrhea is the medical term used to describe cycles greater than 35 days/ infrequent cycles. The day of ovulation is determined by the length of your cycle, so it is good to use tracking methods such as ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperature checking or cervical mucus tracking to pinpoint it more closely if your cycle is shorter or longer. If you have an issue with the length of your cycle, or you’re not sure how to tell when you’re ovulating, please make an appointment. We can discuss natural treatment options that may help you.

17.01.2022 We are often out of tune with our body. Often it has been giving us subtle signs for years before it eventually lets us know in no uncertain terms that something is not right! A good way to tune into your body is to do a body scan. You are checking your body to see if there is any discomfort. No need to do anything if you come across any discomfort. Just know that it is there. Get comfortable by laying down or sitting in a quiet environment... Close your eyes Take three deep breaths Focus your attention on the top of your head. Notice how it feels is there any pain or discomfort? No need to do anything except notice. Continue scanning down your body all the way to your toes. Doing this regularly will help you come across patterns such as foods that cause digestive discomfort or emotions that create pain or tightness. You can let your practitioner know if you have noticed any patterns at your next appointment.

09.01.2022 Today is the Summer solstice! It is officially the first day of Summer in the Southern Hemisphere It is also the longest day of the year - the earth is tilted more towards the sun which means we have more hours of the sun being above the horizon (daylight) and less below the horizon (night-time) In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the sun provides qi, warming the body to nourish our kidney yang. Kidney yang is needed for the body to function properly. Signs of ...an imbalance are based around feeling cold and pain in areas such as the knees, back and uterus. Cold will cause qi and blood to slow and stagnate. - It is also the last Monday in clinic before Christmas and the start of 2021 If you want to kickstart your health in 2021, give us a call on 8296 4333 to book your appointment for when we reopen.

09.01.2022 Vitamin D is essential for good health It is formed in the lower layers of skin epidermis when your skin is exposed to sunlight. Most Australians can meet their vitamin D requirements through incidental sun exposure in Summer, and 10 to 30 minutes of midday sun exposure in the rest of the year (depending on skin type and UV rating - always be sun safe! )... Food sources of vitamin D are oily fish, egg yolks, mushrooms and vitamin D fortified food. Supplementation is also an option. If you are deficient in vitamin D, you may experience brittle bones, lowered immunity, low energy, and anxiety and depression. Vitamin D may also affect fertility. A simple blood test through your GP can tell you if you are deficient. How can we help? We can work with you to improve your diet and supplement deficiencies, which may help you meet the requirements of all nutrients, including vitamin D.

06.01.2022 The sperm cell is the smallest cell in the human body. Unlike the female ovum/ egg, sperm cannot be seen without a microscope

06.01.2022 The South Australian Government has announced that from Tuesday the 1st of December, it will be mandatory for all health care sectors to be wearing a DISPOSABLE medical mask. 06.01.2022 Fertility fact The lifespan of an egg is only 12 - 24 hours After ovulation an egg will only survive for 12 24 hours. The egg is then absorbed back into the body and it is not possible to get pregnant. ... Given the right conditions (optimal cervical mucus!) sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for around 5 days. For this reason, if you are trying to get pregnant, it is best to try in the 3 - 6 days leading up to, and the day of ovulation. It is also why you should be very careful in the 6 days leading up to ovulation if you don’t want to get pregnant!

02.01.2022 After we put the needles in, we turn off the main lights and leave our patients to relax It’s one of the best parts of an acupuncture treatment and many people tell us that this is the only time they have for themselves. Sometimes it takes a while to switch off. But eventually it happens. Then our patients can just be! Self-care at it’s best! ... What are you doing for yourself this weekend? (Hopefully booking an acupuncture appointment for sometime soon )
