23.01.2022 Self-reflection COVID-19 and everything else it came with has forced everyone to slow down and look at their own internal workings. I know I asked myself when this pandemic started What do you want to stand for during COVID-19? and Ive definitely honoured that I consistently educate my clients daily about the neuroscience of our brains. Our brains have been over stressed and we treat them like an over used muscle. When were out in nature our pre frontal cortex... (command centre) is able to dial down and just rest This allows for recalibration, more qualitative thinking and we produce less of the stress hormone. Think about why we love our holidays, weekend getaways, feeling free and the holiday season so much? Something to consider as were moving into a time of recovery from the pandemic. Will you learn to do things differently? #psychologist #neuroscienceofthebrain #neuropsychotherapy See more

22.01.2022 There is only one race. Its called the HUMAN RACE Psychology Talk: The thing about being human is that the mind-body-soul doesnt discriminate so neither should we. Weve always said that mental health doesnt discriminate based on socio economic status, cultural background and most all skin colour. Our make up is all the same. Education is the key to ignorance, racism and creating understanding between individuals. Lets keep the conversation going and promoting peace between all humans #blacklivesmatter #brownpower

19.01.2022 Investing in yourself is a life journey that will always pay off #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

18.01.2022 2020 has had a chaotic first half to the year for Australia and the world Weve had the drought, bushfires, COVID-19 and now the #blacklivesmatter movement. When you feel affected by lifes challenges, its important to first and foremost be kind Youve probably heard @theellenshow daily mantra of be kind to one another (which we LOVE ) although we truly believe that you have to be kind to yourself first before being kind to others. Its something to live by and practice compassion towards yourself and self love. Hope everyones had a restful, kind and regenerative weekend

18.01.2022 m e n t a l s t i l l n e s s The perfect setting for a mindful timeout. I often make a conscious effort to find stillness in my day even if its just for a moment. Its like putting a comma or full stop in your mind that generally works over time . . . #ethos #ethospsychology #mentalwellbeing #psychologist #psychology #melbourne #happiness #happy #mindfulness #mindful #aristotle #mentalhealth #psychologists #psychologistlife #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthrecovery #motivation #motivations #motivationalquotes #mindfulnessmatters #mindfulnessmeditation #recovery #therapy #selflove #selfcare #selfworth #worthy

18.01.2022 f a c e t h e s u n | Who else is feeling more mindful in their days enjoying this beautiful weather? Ultimately improving your mood. I learnt a valuable life lesson from one of my past coaches who died of brain cancer to face the sun. Ill never forget to face the sun and feel its warmth in the moments of life #believeinbelief #rq #richardquick #facethesun . . . #ethos #ethospsychology #mentalwellbeing #psychologist #psychology #melbourne #happiness #happy #mindfulness #mindful #mentalhealth #psychologists #psychologistlife #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthrecovery #motivation #motivationalquotes #mindfulnessmatters #mindfulnessmeditation #recovery #selfcare #selfworth #worthy

17.01.2022 I often explain to clients that emotional abuse is an extension of torture, not to similar from when it was used during the war as psychological warfare. The emotional abuse is the one that leaves the deepest and hidden scars. Most individuals would much prefer physical abuse over the emotional abuse. They know that they will at least heal from their physical scars. The emotional side is more of the unknown. The majority of the people that I see report this to me. The abuse... causes an individual to question themselves and their own self worth where parts of their identity are temporary lost. It becomes a battle in their mind where they no longer trust their own judgment. Nurturance and compassion is important to heal the traumatised part of your self. Re-acquainting your self with the person you always knew you were assists with moving past the trauma and shame involved. Even better insights are shared in this article!

17.01.2022 Although these words seem so simple, it’s actually the most challenging concept to develop and practice self compassion/nurturance daily. A life long skill and most self improvement, personal journeys, life treks etc. all lead to a similar message. This #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

16.01.2022 Here is a little reminder that self love is not selfish and that one of the best ways to teach others how to love us is to lead by example and love ourselves

I think its time to get new photos now that weve opened The Ethos Centre. What do you guys think? #theethoscentre

15.01.2022 A beautiful read about the mother-child bond and the importance of providing a nurturing space to develop. Its engrained in our human condition to survive https://raisedgood.com/ill-lay-son-fall-asleep-long-needs/

15.01.2022 CHOOSING KINDNESS & POSITIVE SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS I often talk to my clients about collecting your good people and being kind to yourself although as easy it sounds in words, its much harder to implement in reality. Its a life skill that we constantly need to develop. At least create an understanding and awareness of what this actually looks like in everyday life. Research suggests that having our positive supportive relationships and networks ameliorates the effects of mental health. Something to see if its evident in your everyday life #bekindtoyourself #positivesupportiverelationships #mentalhealth

15.01.2022 At Ethos Psychology we provide a safe, warm and supportive space for all our clients. This is a little snap shot of one of our rooms within the centre

14.01.2022 As Victoria is coming out of COVID restrictions/lockdown we can slowly feel a sense of normality coming back into society. It may be time to bring those outfits back out However, be mindful of those who hid behind COVID and the anxiety that the restrictions/lockdown created. For some, the anxiety and pressures return to be expected to socialise again or a new anxiety has arisen to watch how close you are to others in a social setting - looking for an escape route/ clear pathway. Check in on those around you #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

14.01.2022 What the buy in period often looks like in an abusive relationship. Hopes and dreams are commonly offered to someone on a silver platter. This such a powerful post by White Ribbon We need to break the stigmas attached to Family Violence in the wider community. As a psychologist who specialises in complex trauma and Family Violence, Ive found that theres little understanding around the cycle of violence and that these relationships are a fear based one. The question i...s always asked Why do they stay? Or Why did I stay?, however reality shows individuals that its a safer option rather than increasing the risk and threat of more violence occurring. Im passionate about systemic change in this area. Individuals who have suffered abuse are inspiring and incredibly resilient to me. My motivation

14.01.2022 Lets talk control of our thoughts Did you know that we have a relative amount of control over what we think that then influences how we feel (feelings, emotions, mood) and what we do (behaviours)? Its important to keep our mind and thoughts in the present because past and future based thinking is out of our control It usually brings up negative emotions and lots of worry. Lets all stay present in the here and now because life is just too beautiful #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

13.01.2022 Are you really being mindful? Often we attempt to be mindful yet theres still elements of evaluating, avoiding, suppressing or blocking of the present moment. Mindfulness is a skill that requires ongoing practice and can be used in every day life to bring back intention when living in the present moment. Its great to check in with yourself even when you think youre being mindful. #mindfulness

12.01.2022 How worry works Worry has a way of creating a vicious cycle for someone. Often people who worry tend to worry about worrying (are you still with me?! ). Worry creates (false) negative beliefs and assumptions, which becomes distressing for the individual. Its always best to get your mind to come back to reality and this diagram sums it up perfectly #worry #howworryworks #worrying #viciouscycle

11.01.2022 Even more relevant over the holiday period Always choose human kindness to yourself and others. Just a little reminder #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

10.01.2022 MENTAL STILLNESS Our brains have become overstimulated and over worked in todays society. Its important to find the stillness in your mind and create the commas and full stops in your day. Were all about living mindfully and integrating mindfulness in every day life when sometimes its difficult to find the time to mediate and stop for minutes at a time. Do you know the neurology behind visualisation practices (neuroplasticity)? You can actively focus yo...u attention forming images in your mind - things that you want to accomplish and do better at. Its more commonly seen in Sports Psychology and is training your neurological pathways to become reality. We really do have the most powerful brains and if we get the mind-body-soul connection right, then we can become unstoppable #neuroscience #neuropsychotherapy #neuroplasticity #theethoscentre #ethospsychology #visualisation See more

03.01.2022 Have you seen our new space?! Its the same same but different with a wide open view of nature Research shows that the brain is able to rewire itself changing its structure and function = neuroplasticity. Being out in nature is one of the things that naturally decreases our stress levels and seen on a neural level. So if you havent had your daily dose of self care, this is a gentle reminder to get out there and breathe, take in the sunshine and be around nature and the greens. Happy Monday everyone Photography by Arnaud Domange Photography

01.01.2022 Try this CBT exercise Positive self affirmations assist with grounding someone in reality and the truths rather than going with the ‘snowball effect’ of negative thoughts and their assumptions. It can tear away at someone’s self worth and identity. This is our most favourite sentence starters I’m a worth person because......(fill in the blank) Filling in the second half may be more challenging than meets the eye. Choosing positive quality traits about yourself that truly resonate (think you could defend your life with it) with you is difficult when you feel stuck in your self, emotions and self image. TIP: you only need a few that truly align with you. Let us know how you go and we’d love to hear what you come up with in the comments below #ethospsychology #theethoscentre

01.01.2022 Thank you to @la_clinica_skin_and_body and @codiagency for keeping us well stocked here at the private practice Our clients are well taken care of as we continue to maintain our COVID-19 precautionary measures including sanitisation of all surfaces, washing hands or sanitise before seeing a professional and temperature checks We hope everyone continues to stay safe and well #covid19 #handsanitizer #ethospsychology #theethoscentre #thenewnormal
