14.01.2022 You might have noticed that Bee The Best Manuka Honey uses an alternative metric called MGO as a way to indicate the different levels of Manuka honey contained in a bottle. However, UMF standard is the usual quality measure used in the market. So whats the difference between UMF and MGO? Unique Manuka Honey Factor (UMF) is authorised by the New Zealand UMF Association. A UMF rating considers the honeys concentration of DHA (dihydroxyacetone), Methylglyoxal, and Leptospiral.... Methylglyoxal (MGO), on the other hand, is a specific toxic compound found in high concentrations in Manuka Honey (up to 1000 times greater than in other types of honey), and it is considered to give it an antiseptic edge. The higher the MGO level, the better effect the honey has against bacteria. To provide customers with a choice of different levels of Manuka Honey, Bee the Best has the Manuka honey products ranging from MGO 30+ to 830+, which cater for different consumers demands and health needs. The table below shows you the equivalent measures under MGO and UMF standards. Keep checking our Facebook page regularly for updates. In our next post, we will be explaining the health benefits specific for different levels of MGO grades to help you choose the right MGO grades for your needs.

09.01.2022 How to store honey properly? To start with, temperature plays an important role in avoiding the deterioration of honey. Experts suggest that honey is best kept at room temperature, which ranges from 18C to 24C. Where should we place our honey? Kitchen counter or pantry shelves are the recommended places for storage. The refrigerator can also be suitable, however, it can lead to honeys crystallisation, although it does not have a negative impact as it is just the natural pr...ocess, you can simply place the honey jar in warm water and stir until the crystals dissolve. Thanks to Bee the Best Manuka Honeys clever design, the packaging adopts the design of dark plastic bottles to block any strong light which would otherwise deteriorate honeys natural ingredients. Similar to wine, Manuka Honey has a stable substantial structure, which means that the longer it is kept, the higher value it is accumulated.

04.01.2022 What should you look for when it comes to honey? The first thing you should do is to have some knowledge about the honeys colour, flavour and form. It is claimed that different colours and flavours in honey depend on blossoms the honey bees visited. If you have tried a variety of honey products, you should find that honey colour ranges from almost colourless to dark amber brown, while its flavour various from delectably mild to rich. Generally speaking, light-coloured honey ...is milder in taste and dark-coloured honey is stronger. When it comes to the honeys forms liquid, whipped and comb, different shapes of the honey are driven by the honey manufacturing process. For example, liquid honey is extracted from the comb in the hive by centrifugal force, gravity, straining or other means. Whipped honey (also known as creamed honey) is finely crystallised so that it remains creamy and spreadable. Comb honey is honey that comes as it was produced, or in other words, in the honey bees wax comb. So now you should know much more about honey. How would you describe Bee the Best Manuka Honey? The colour is brown and dark, which means it has strong aromatic flavour. It is also a creamed honey with a smooth spreadable taste.

04.01.2022 Regular honey, commonly found in supermarkets are pasteurised at high temperatures to ensure a longer shelf life. It also ensures that the honey presented to consumers is smooth, and of a light colour, all of which makes it more appealing to consumers eyes. Little do we know the pasteurisation process also removes all the nutritional properties that honey may carry! On the other hand, Manuka honey is derived from the flowers of the Manuka plant, which blossoms only 2-6 week...s in a year! This also means that beekeepers contribute a lot of attention and careful handling of the hives during blooming seasons. As a result, all the good properties are well kept in the product with very little processing involvement. Arguably, this makes Manuka honey that much more valuable and worthwhile to have! Note that, the concentration levels of methylglyoxal (MGO) present in Manuka honey are tested based on a reliable scientific grading system and therefore, the higher the MGO, the greater the antibacterial activity. In addition, Manuka honey is normally a darker brown with a thicker consistency. Manuka honey contains much more antibacterial properties than regular honey, the main health benefits of Manuka honey are: respiratory (coughs, dry throat, tonsillitis, bronchitis), oral health (mouth ulcers, gum disease), skin care (topical eczema, acne, dry skin) and the digestive system (heart burns, irritable bowels, diarrhoea, and gastritis). On the other hand, regular honey provides immediate relief for sore throats, dry coughs and general skin care. Now that we have an understanding of Manuka honey, why not give it a try? In the next posts, lets discover how else we can utilise Manuka honey and the specific benefits it carries! Stay tuned!
