22.01.2022 How deep is your squat? Why do we need a deep squat? Think about if you have small children in your life... do you experience back aches after a day of playing ...with them, picking them up from the floor multiple times a day? Are you a tradie that needs to get down low and at the moment the only way the get there is to bend over putting pressure on low back. In this case my deep squat helped get through a day of painting, able to get down low, keep spine fairly neutral and my glutes/quads took the brunt rather than low back. What could be limiting your squat... 20.01.2022 Listen to your body. We always try push push push and try aim higher for every training session but when your body is sending you clear signs LISTEN! They are strong machines but every now and again we still need to release tension.... Didn't go as hard on legs today. Aimed for more functional movements and practiced single leg squats with hips square and level. Try it. It's harder than it sounds. I'm always fed up with the quality and how people mistreat gym equipment so I bought my own barbell pad and straps. 16.01.2022 Want to be able to do CHIN UPS or PULL UPS? Can never get onto the assisted chin up/dip machine? Here is a great alternative. Welcome to the wonderful world of resistance bands!! These bands can be used in many many different exercises but today you will see me using them to help with chin ups. ... Chin ups are a compound exercise that use more than one large muscle group and uses more than one joint to complete the movement, mostly your lats and biceps are used for this exercise. To start with you want to pretend like your trying to put your shoulder blade into the back pocket of your jeans, or imagine someone’s hand on your back and you are trying to pinch it with your shoulder blades. You can practice with or without hanging from the bar to start with. After you have got the feel for that movement hang from the bar and pull yourself up bending at the elbows trying to keep a straight lower body. Return back to starting position trying not disengage your shoulder activation. Don’t release fully, keep a slight bend in your elbows. You’ll see in my video I have placed a resistance band around the top of the bar and around underneath my foot. This aids in being able to pull yourself up. Make sure you take it slowly when putting your foot into the resistance band as it can quite easily spring up from underneath you, putting you on you ass. Pull ups are great for functional strength and overhead strength. Strong back muscles and core control are massively important for posture and spine alignment. A lot of people sit in their cars for extended periods of time or sit at a desk or on the couch and computer all day which can cause back pain, all of this sitting increases the physical loading on you back so by strengthening you back and core muscles you can help to reduce your chances of back pain and injury. For women. Want to start to see that bit of fat disappear that sits above and underneath your bra?? This can help to define your back and biceps. 13.01.2022 Stretchie Stretchie. Can you see the difference in muscle length? I've learnt the hard way. I used to stretch before every session to prevent mobility issues, limitations and injuries...... Then I got LAZY. I got lazy and things started happening. My body started to turn it's back on me, neural tension in my hips and my entire posterior chain started to ache and pinch and pull. Got to the point where just walking could set of a chain reaction of aches and pinches in my hips. I now so at least 10mins or assisted stretching before every session and stretch after as well.
