25.01.2022 A BIG congratulations to Eurobodalla's newest Australian citizens who took the pledge in the Council Chambers yesterday! Welcome aboard friends!

25.01.2022 BATTERIES DON'T BELONG IN THE BIN | We're focussing our energy this National Recycling Week on helping residents correctly dispose of the humble household battery. Batteries should never be placed in household bins and can only be recycled through special collection points. In transport, processing and in landfill, batteries can (and have) caused fires if they leak, are compacted and/or are inadvertently heated. Drop your household batteries off for recycling, free o...f charge to: your local library Waste management facilities at Surf Beach, Brou and Moruya Batemans Bay Community Centre Council’s administration building in Moruya. 24.01.2022 Eurobodalla’s emergency service agencies have joined forces for National Road Safety Week to urge local motorists to commit to safe driving. National Road Safety Week asks motorists to pledge to: drive as if their loved ones are on the road ahead remove all distractions and never use a phone while driving not put other people at risk by speeding, driving while tired or under the influence of alcohol/drugs,... protect all vulnerable road users, especially those whose job places them in harm’s way, by slowing down and giving them the space they need to be safe. Emergency services fleets will display yellow ribbons for National Road Safety Week, while you can pick up road safety goodies from either Batemans Bay, Moruya or Narooma Library. Take the road safety pledge at https://roadsafetyweek.com.au/

23.01.2022 HOMES NEEDED | This adorably cute pupper and beautiful doggo are available for adoption. The border collie guy has had a rough start to life and needs some stability. He’s about 18 months old and very active (but not a working dog). His ideal home would be with someone experienced in dog training who can give him lots of attention, patience and plenty of walks. He needs a fully fenced yard and would not suit a household with small kiddos. The puppy lass is a bull arab/...Staffy cross, about 10 weeks old, needing a forever home. She’s very friendly, cute and excitable and would suit someone with a fully fenced yard who is willing to spend time on training. If you would like to know more, or would like to meet them, please give our rangers a call: 4474 1019 (business hours) Puppy rehoming number: R251000133 Border collie rehoming number: R251000133

23.01.2022 Last night’s wild weather has lifted the bitumen seal right off the road on George Bass Drive at Guerilla Bay. We’re asking motorists to avoid the area today. If you can’t do that, please drive under 40km/hour in the vicinity. Storm damage elsewhere is being assessed, and work crews are taking care of a few fallen trees creating hazards near roads. ... Take extra care on the roads today folks, and please report any damage to our after hours number 1800 755 760

23.01.2022 Can you help those who lost their gardens in the fires with plants and seedlings? Our community development team is asking residents to 'grow to give', after local bushfire recovery agencies identified that affected people are ready to re-establish their gardens but they need plants, shrubs and trees. We'll set up a central drop-off and pick-up point in December:... Drop-off: Djinima room at the Bas, on the corner of Vulcan and Murray Streets, Moruya, on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December, between 2pm and 4pm. Pick-up: Same place between 12pm and 4pm on either Monday 21, Tuesday 22 or Wednesday 23 December. Some plants are common "escapees" that can become weeds in our natural environment - find out what species to avoid by visiting our website - www.esc.nsw.gov.au/weeds Gardening Australia also has an informative video on how to take native cuttings watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s63iGkn8dpY

22.01.2022 Our message is simple, but it comes from the heart. Thank you. To all the emergency services and volunteers who kept us safe, assisted us and supported us as a community, we will be forever grateful. To Australia and the rest of the world, thank you for your messages, donations, love and support. ... We know 2020 hasn’t been a kind year, but from all of us - we wish you a safe and happy 2021.

22.01.2022 It's National NAIDOC Week and for 2020 "Always was. Always will be" celebrates the stories from thousands of generations of Australia's First Nations. NAIDOC Week is about encouraging Aussies from all walks of life to work together for a shared future. While COVID-19 has put a dampner on 2020 events, we've pulled together some of our fave pix from recent years. With special thanks to the 2019 Year 4 Dhurga choir from St Bernard's Primary School, Batemans Bay for the the music.

22.01.2022 Hey, did you know you can now find all Eurobodalla events on one website? An initiative of our tourism team, whatson.eurobodalla.com.au captures Eurobodalla events listed on Facebook, the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, and selected websites, and displays them all in the one place. And (pending COVID) there's plenty on. Check it out here: https://whatson.eurobodalla.com.au/

21.01.2022 Thanks to the generosity of Basil Sellers OAM, a sculpture created by one of Australia’s most recognised artists Terrance Plowright will soon be installed pride of place in Moruya. The $100,000 gift to the Eurobodalla community was commissioned by Mr Sellers’ to further enrich Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre. It will be visible from the Princes Highway at the corner of Vulcan and Campbell Streets, and will serve as a wayfinding marker for the Bas.... Plowright’s works are installed throughout Australia and overseas; from a larger than life Elvis in Parkes and the Life from a Suitcase sculpture at Pyrmont, to the iconic Dancing Brolgas water feature at Darling Harbour and a contemporary stainless steel sculpture at Bondi, to name only a few. He visited Eurobodalla in mid-2020 and collected material for the local piece, titled ‘Ocean’. We're hoping it will be ready for installation in July 2021.

16.01.2022 Today we’re flying our flags at half mast to mark the anniversary of the start of the Currowan bushfire. The Black Summer fires devastated 79 per cent of our shire’s landscape, with the loss of three lives and more than 500 homes destroyed. It’s been traumatic year and the coming weeks will be tough for many in the community. At this time of reflection, we are grateful to the emergency responders who protected us, and we honour the courage of so many residents who worked together to provide safety and comfort in those dark days.

There's fuel vouchers to be won - $250 for the winner and $50 for the nine runners up. See how well you score at http://bit.ly/ESCTestYourself ~ quiz closes 11 April.

13.01.2022 As Sydney records more COVID cases today, we’re reminding visitors and residents to be COVID safe. The latest advice from NSW Health is that residents of Sydney’s northern beaches who’ve arrived in the Eurobodalla since 10 December should be self-isolating and getting tested. Directives about travel should be taken from the state and territory governments, and health advice from NSW Health. We’ve scheduled radio ads over summer and installed signage at local beaches, parks and playgrounds reminding visitors and residents to stay 1.5m apart and to practise good hand and respiratory hygiene. We’ve come so far this year folks and we can’t afford to drop our guard - we must all remain vigilant and look out for each other to keep our community safe and open for business.

13.01.2022 George Bass Drive will be closed near Batemans Bay High School from 4pm tomorrow (Sunday) while our crews put in a couple of extra hours upgrading the road pavement. Commuters should use Beach Road as an alternate route. Residents will get access to their homes but should allow extra travel time. The team began night work last Sunday to replace the gravel pavement with a stronger and more water-resilient deep lift asphalt. They’ve had more than a few challenges and need to ...begin earlier than the planned 6pm this Sunday. Every effort will be made to minimise noise but nearby residents may hear heavy machinery. The project is possible thanks to Council funds and a $585,000 grant from the NSW Government. More information about our current works is at www.esc.nsw.gov.au/currentworks

13.01.2022 LIGHTING THE WAY | Streetlights on local main roads are being upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs. We were the first council in the south-east to upgrade residential road streetlights to LEDs back in 2017 - but higher wattage lamps for our main roads were not yet available in the region. Streetlights cost around $475,000 each year in energy and maintenance the LEDs will deliver significant cost savings for ratepayers as well as reduce our greenhouse gas emissions win-win!

12.01.2022 WANT TO SUPPLY GOODS TO COUNCIL? We're establishing a panel of businesses that can supply us with: Garden supplies (including turf); Hardware; Plumbing supplies; and... Stormwater and related products. The panel will likely be Council’s first port of call for anything from a seedling to a concrete pipe for two years, commencing in March 2021. The panel process reduces red tape and removes the need for businesses to quote for individual jobs every time they arise at Council. If your business is not on the panel, you may miss out on a lot of trade. The closing date for submissions is Thursday 3 December at 2pm. Apply at www.tenderlink.com/eurobodalla See more

11.01.2022 Surf Beach tip will closed next Monday and Tuesday (30 November and 1 December) while we repair internal roads and drop-off areas. Brou waste management facility, off the Princes Highway on Brou Lake Road, is open and fully operational during the closure, from Monday to Friday, 7am to 4.45pm.
