25.01.2022 Under the boardwalk people walking above Our Plenty Road Upgrade team, together with the City of Whittlesea, are building a boardwalk to connect Wealthiland Drive to the existing shared user path. It will be 100m long, partially made from recycled materials, and will help navigate pedestrians and cyclists across a large flood drain.... Construction is scheduled to be complete by Christmas. 19.01.2022 Work zone established Our Monash Freeway Upgrade team are almost finished setting up the work area along the centre median of the Monash and Princes freeways, allowing us to get on with the job of adding 36km of new lanes. Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to keep traffic moving as we prepare to build the new freeway lanes.... 18.01.2022 Picture perfect Our team are working round-the-clock to build your new lanes, intersections and freeway interchange on the O’Herns Road Upgrade. To do this, we’re widening O’Herns Road bridge. In June we used a 450-tonne crane to install eight new concrete beams on the north side of the bridge and later this year, we’ll install 12 more beams on the south side.... When we’re finished, you’ll have dedicated access to the Hume Freeway for the first time, with safer and more reliable journeys! 16.01.2022 All hands on deck The O’Herns Road Upgrade team are progressing with works to build the new O’Herns Road interchange to the Hume Freeway. So far they’ve laid 22 tonnes of steel reinforcement and have poured 80 cubic metres of concrete to create the new bridge surface.... Next they’ll be installing bridge barriers during a full weekend closure of the Hume Freeway between Cooper Street and the Hume Highway in November. 13.01.2022 Thompsons Road is an essential freight and transport route and a vital corridor in Melbourne’s growing south-east region. It also intersects with major north-south routes in the area including Mornington Peninsula Freeway, EastLink, Western Port Highway and South Gippsland Freeway. In July we tied a bow on Thompsons Road and handed it back to the community with improved traffic flow, better safety features and more ways to get around.... Watch to see how it all looks now. 13.01.2022 Our Plenty Road Upgrade team is excited to announce that the southbound lane between Bush Boulevard and McDonalds Road is now open! This is a significant milestone as it’s the first new lane to open on the 2nd stage of this important project. 13.01.2022 Keep it flowing Our Plenty Road Upgrade team are currently building a large concrete structure which will enable water to flow underneath Plenty Road to help the area handle greater volumes of water well into the future. In order to do this we’re in the process of excavating a 4-metre deep, 20-metre-wide trench.... 13.01.2022 The art of construction Our M80 Upgrade team have been working to widen and lengthen the Sydney Road Altona-bound exit and Greensborough-bound entry ramps. 12.01.2022 Our Mordialloc Freeway team is completing 16 weeks of work in just 4 weeks at Woodlands Drive to build the new interchange. In the first three weeks we: Laid asphalt for the new exit ramp Laid 175 tonnes of material for the base of the new lanes... Removed 2,700 square metres of materials to widen the road We will continue: Installing the new traffic lights and street lighting Building the new road surface, kerbs and traffic islands Woodlands Drive will reopen on Wednesday 2 December. 11.01.2022 The Monash Freeway Upgrade is underway From 21 September until 2022, the ban on trucks using the right-hand lane of the Monash Freeway will be temporarily suspended. Trucks are still encouraged to avoid travelling in the right-hand lane so that construction vehicles can safely enter and exit the construction area. 10.01.2022 They weigh up to 50 tonnes, span almost 55 metres and take an overnight closure of Melbourne’s busiest freeway to install. There are now 10 of 11 new overhead structures (or ‘gantries’) in place between South Gippsland Freeway and Princes Highway. When complete this will create one of the longest managed motorways in Australia. The gantries we’ve installed on the Monash will feature digital on-road technology including variable speed limit signs and lane closure alerts. ... 09.01.2022 Powerful water jet robots, yep we’ve got it all on O’Herns Road Last month our team used a safe and environmentally friendly method known as waterblasting to demolish 13,000kg of concrete on O’Herns Road bridge. Two remote controlled hydro demolition robots blasted high-pressure recycled water to remove 45m of the existing concrete surface so works could continue to widen the bridge.... 08.01.2022 Concrete success In early November, the O’Herns Road upgrade team closed the Hume Freeway for a full weekend to safely install concrete barriers along the northern side of the O’Herns Road bridge. While the freeway was closed, the team worked around the clock to complete the barrier installation as well as create structural supports for overhead signage and install footings for wire rope safety barriers. Closing the freeway for a full weekend means the team are able to redu...ce the number of future lane and freeway closures. 04.01.2022 The newly upgraded Skeleton Creek Bridge on Leakes Road looks impressive from all angles! Recycled rocks from the Leakes and Dohertys Road Upgrades have been used to construct ‘rock beaching’ on the creek bed. This beaching creates a surface for river flora to reproduce, forming crevices that the growling grass frog and aquatic life can use for breeding and shelter.... 04.01.2022 We finished major works on the Hallam Road Upgrade in June, adding new lanes between Ormond Road and the South Gippsland Highway and improving intersections. New traffic lights at the SUEZ Resource Recovery Precinct are helping to manage trucks entering and exiting, meaning drivers don’t get held up. Our friends at Level Crossing Removal Project have recently opened the road bridge at Evans Road, reconnecting Lynbrook and Lyndhurst after 15 years and slashing travel times for... locals. 03.01.2022 Change is afoot on the new Mordialloc Freeway We’ve just lifted the first bridge beams for the freeway into place at Old Dandenong Road. This bridge is made up of twelve 64-tonne beams. In just three weeks, we completely transformed the Wells Road and Thames Promenade intersection from a roundabout to a brand new intersection with traffic lights, better public lighting and safer pedestrian crossings. 02.01.2022 The Echuca-Moama Bridge Project is starting to take shape From Kilmore to Echuca the final beam is now installed on the new bridge over the Campaspe River. During February we’ll start lifting the next batch of beams for the back spans of the new bridge over the Murray River.... 01.01.2022 Mind the gap! To add new lanes to the Monash Freeway, we’re widening 8 bridges. We’ve recently installed 8 piles, creating the foundations for the structures that will widen the bridges at Jacksons and Police roads. Each pile is 10-12 metres deep and reinforced by a steel cage that was lifted into place by a 40 tonne crane. ...
