13.01.2022 Well, the time has come. From conception a bit over 2 years ago the website has proven itself as an informative recourse for Tasmanians. Based on this I have decided now to launch the website nationally and with the help of other like minded people. Basically a joint venture. The site will basically look the same but there will be home page listing all the states individually. From there you simply go to your state and the content will be as it is now.... I am looking for someone to manage each state individually and we can all work together to ensure we maintain the level of information currently available. If you are that person or know someone, get in touch by private message now. Please also SHARE this post so it reaches as many people as possible. Kind regards, Darryn White
07.01.2022 FROM TANIA in Lenah Valley, Hello, I have a block of land in ................. I am going to build a kit home on this block eventually. In the interim, I was considering the prospect of turning a shipping container into a granny flat construction, professionally of course. Can you please tell me what is involved and it is allowed to be done? Hi Tania,... A shipping container as a dwelling becomes a ‘Class 1’ Building so has to meet all the ‘Class 1’ building requirements set out in the Building Code of Australia. Although it seems to be a cheap alternative on the surface, once you consider all the energy efficiency, safety and amenity, structural integrity requirements, to name a few, along with the council’s own planning guidelines it ends up being a much more expensive and complicated process than just plonking a container in your back yard and moving in a couch. Technically it can be done but I would consider other alternatives first. Darryn White
03.01.2022 Replacing an existing fence. from Charles. My property is on the corner of a street and currently has a fence that is 1.8meters high that is falling apart. I am planning on replacing/renewing the fence. Would I need to apply for a permit?... Hi Charles, Generally if your replacing ‘like for like’ you won’t need any approvals. If you intend to change the fence you may a formal approval from council. My suggestion is to consult with your local Council before you make a start. Darryn White
02.01.2022 Over the last couple of years I have been receiving some great questions, through my website everythingbuilding.com.au, from people seeking a form of basic advice and direction for building project ideas they have. I thought I would start to share these questions and my reply so more people can benefit from this. Stay tuned.
