16.01.2022 Remedial Massage and Neck Pain By Edward John Fearn There is nothing worse than a pain in the neck and I mean that both in figurative and literal sense. For those suffering from neck pain there can be some light at the end of the tunnel. Remedial massage can assist many people with this complaint to have reduced pain levels and in certain cases to become completely pain free.... It is important to visit your doctor any time that you experience any episodes of neck pain especially after a traumatic injury. Although most cases of neck pain are simply caused by a mild cervical subluxation or a simple sprain or strain, occasionally neck pain can be a symptom of a somewhat more serious condition. As well as remedial massage therapy, other techniques such as heat or cold therapy, myofascial dry needling, and TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) may assist in alleviating neck pain. Natural anti inflammatory or muscle relaxants may also be of some value, however in certain acute cases corticosteroid facet injections may be required. With neck pain, tightness and active trigger points or knots can often be found in the following muscles; the upper trapezius, the sternocleidomastoid, the scalenes, the cervical multifundi as well as the levator scapulae. By releasing the active trigger points or knots in these muscles substantial relief from pain can often result. Myofascial dry needling is one technique that has been shown to be extremely effective in releasing these active trigger points. Using a combination of Remedial massage and Myofascial trigger point therapy can be a great way of improving recovery time and facilitating the healing process. Greater mobility as well as an overall reduction in pain intensity is generally noticed even after the first session, however with follow up treatments even greater improvements may be realized. With any form of massage therapy it is important to give feedback to the therapist as to the level of pressure used in the therapy. Always let them know if the pressure is too firm or especially in the case of neck injuries or if you experience any headaches, dizziness, vision disturbances, numbness or tingling sensations at any time during the treatment. Remedial massage is one of the safest and least invasive forms of treatment for neck pain and discomfort. Not to mention one of the most enjoyable and satisfying overall. http://remedialmassageinbrisbane.com.au/remedialmassage Alternative Medicine Expert Edward John Fearn has written a number of articles in this series on natural and complementary treatments for pain management and sports injuries. http://evolutionsnaturaltherapies.com.au Edward John Fearn is an Author, Naturopath, Remedial Therapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist currently in clinical Practice and is here to share his expertise and knowledge with you.
