22.01.2022 Why wait until New Year’s Day to make resolutions and set goals for your life? Make decisions today that will improve your life and finish 2020 strong. We are still offering Gap Free or 50% off 30 minute appointments* for the whole of December. If you are feeling pain or movement restrictions come in and see us. If you have private health that covers myotherapy it will cost you nothing, if you don’t it will cost you $25. If one of your goals for 2021 is to be healthier... or to exercise more then make a choice now that will impact your life in a positive way. If you are going to start exercising more than you currently are, it is likely that you will experience pain. Don’t let that put you off though! Preventative and maintenance exercise is a much better approach than waiting until you have injured yourself. *Terms and condition apply #excelsiorsportstherapy #2020 #2021 #newyearsresolution #movemore #finishstrong #goals

22.01.2022 What a crazy year 2020 continues to be! I hope your life has found some sort of normality as we continue to live in an ever changing world. In Queensland the road out of the coronavirus shutdown has been relatively straight forward. We have been allowed back into gyms and as of today nearly all forms of sport can re-commence.... I hope you have been able to maintain and achieve your 2020 fitness goals, whatever they may be. In a year like no other, where every day seems to throw something different at us, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the importance of regular maintenance verse only seeking treatment when you are in pain. It is natural to go and see a therapist when your body is in pain. Normally it will be after a period of time until the pain gets too much to bare. Then after a few treatments and maybe some exercises the pain subsides and because we are feeling good again we stop going to appointments. It is inevitable though that the pain will most likely return as you have only addressed the issue to return to a pain free life rather than continuing to a place where you are stronger and moving better and therefore less likely to suffer from the pain again. There is no guarantee that pain will not return even after adequate strengthening but there is substantial evidence to support the premise that the stronger your body is and the better your body moves the less likely you are to be in pain. That's why we recommend regular treatment to keep on top of any niggles that may be present and also allow us to progress your strength and movement beyond what it was when you first started seeing us. The ideal maintenance schedule is to come in and see us every 4-6 weeks. This gives us the ability to address any issues that may be present and also ensure that the exercises that you are doing are challenging enough for you continue to progress. We understand that it is easy to get complacent and the attitude of 'If I'm not in pain, I don't need treatment,' seems like a logical one, but we will always encourage you to be the best version of your self and that means continuing to strengthen your body to decrease the chance of you being in pain again. If it has been a little while since we have seen you please consider booking an appointment and coming in for a 'check up'. It is far easier to maintain strength and remain pain free then it is to always start from a position of pain. Head to https://www.excelsiorsports.com.au/ to book an appointment now.

16.01.2022 ISOMETRIC EXERCISES FOR LOW BACK PAIN Isometric exercises are often used in practice to decrease pain. While quite some research has been done in tendons, there... is little evidence for the effect of isometric exercises in low back pain. A study by Rhyu et al. In the year 2015 suggests that they migh be beneficial in patients with low back pain. Furthermore, there is also little evidence about the exercise parameters for isometric exercise. A study by Rio et al. In the year 2015 has shown that 5 sets of a 45s hold of at least 70% oft he maximum effort was beneficial in patients with patellar tendinopathy. They took 2 minutes rest in between sets. In the following we will give you a couple of ideas, which exercises you could have your patients try starting with the easiest in terms of effort to the most hardest! See more

16.01.2022 After 10 years the World Health Organization published its new physical activity guidelines. Reading the paper is recommended for ALL healthcare practitioners; ...and it's open access! This year, the WHO included recommendations for different age groups, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, and disabled people. This is A LOT of info, so we'd really recommend going to our Twitter account (@physiotutors) and read the thread on this paper. There you can find all key points. Make sure to give us a follow, we tweet on average two relevant papers per day, with a lot of them being open access. Age groups: - Children and adolescents: 5-17y - Adults: 18-65y - Older adults: 65y Paper: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33239350/

10.01.2022 From the 27th of April 2020 Excelsior Sports Therapy will re-open our doors! Due to the Queensland Government changing the restrictions on who can provide manual therapy services, we are able to resume offering face to face consultations. Social distancing rules still apply, to the extent possible. There are only 3 people allowed in the waiting room at any time and a 1.5m distance needs to be kept between people where possible. Obviously to provide manual therapy services we... will need to be closer than 1.5m and we will need some physical contact. Our infection control and hygiene protocols remain extremely high with hand sanitiser available for clients and therapists and high touch surfaces disinfected regularly. We will continue to offer shorter 30 minute appointments and telehealth consultations for those that want to reduce their exposure. #excelsiorsportstherapy #openforbusiness #backinbusiness #staysafe #hygiene #covid_19 #coronavirus #massage #myotherapy

10.01.2022 Due to my work commitments with AFL umpires, I have had to enter 2 weeks of isolation. Don't worry, I'm not sick. With 6 games of AFL in Queensland this weekend and the current situation in Victoria there are 6 teams and 28 umpires that have come up from Melbourne. They have all had to go in to 2 weeks quarantine and for me to continue working at AFL games I also had to go into quarantine. I apologise for any inconvenience that the clinic closure will have, but I will be back... to help you achieve your goals soon. Stay safe! #excelsiorsportstherapy #isolation #quarantine #quarantinelife #covid19 #afl #thethingsyoudo #anythingforfooty

09.01.2022 We are encouraging all our clients to download the COVIDSafe app. We believe that this is a great way to help increase our clients safety and wellbeing and will allow us to continue to treat you in a safe and hygienic space. It means that in the extremely unlikely event that someone with coronavirus comes to our clinic then all our clients and therapists will be able to be notified as quickly as possible of the chance that they were exposed. We continue to ask that if you are... experiencing any symptoms of cold, flu or coronavirus that you do not attend your appointment. Stay safe.

02.01.2022 'The breadth of scientific evidence for exercise prescription as a treatment for muscle, ligament, tendon, bone and joint complaints far outweighs the limited scientific support for the prolonged use of "passive" treatments like massage, manipulation, and adjustments.' This is the key take away...it doesn't matter what health care professional you see, the important thing is that they are encouraging you and educating you to exercise and take control of your health.
